@@SillyVoices4u ok to be fair the hitler thing is a lot more complex than the other examples you gave. the assassination of franz ferdinand of germany is what started WWI and the germans were completely fucked over with the treaty of Versailles. the nazi party did take advantage of angry people HOWEVER when most people bring up hitler its in response to the holocaust and that is also not as simple as the nazis killed the jews. the jews literally chose it. first the german government told them they were not wanted and they should leave and the jews refused to go. then the german government forced the jews to live under terrible conditions with the hope that doing so would make them leave and when that failed the final solution happened which was the holocaust. those who did not agree with that solution risked and often gave their own lives in order to protect the jews. those who the nazi party thought might be a threat (such as the rich and influential which included my great grandma and her family) were brought to the camps too. honestly the third reich is probably the best thing to compare the heaven/hell situation in hazbin to. it was a very complex event that a lot of people downplay the complexity of because of morality and my rough and simplified explanation of what happened doesnt do it justice. there are many MANY important lessons to be learned from history and WWI and WWII are the best outlet for those lessons as they were very well documented and MANY easily avoidable tragedies happened along with lessons on what not to do in war (truth is if the japenese didnt bomb pearl harbor the axis forces would have won. america joining the war was the turning point as we supplied a massive amount of weapons, war machines, and ammunition)

Hell is NOT forever (In a Biblical aspect) I mean it literally gets thrown at the lake of fire to be destroyed so... Either way This show is great. I love the extremist side of how legalism can remove what grace truly is (heaven in the show) And how people can counter that with what grace can be or what grace actually is.

@nielsjensen4185Ай бұрын
@@hiima2860 If you go by purely Abrahamic mythology the Bible itself is un-Biblical. The concept of Hell is a relatively recent phenomenon, before that it was Purgatory where souls got to, and when they were deemed to have suffered enough to make up for their sins then they would go straight to Heaven. The Bible you know is the heavily edited King James Bible, it was meant to reinforce the concept of the Divine Right of Kings and many things are edited to make it readable and transportable since a "complete" version of the Abrahamic scripture would probably be six volumes at least and full of even more contradictions than it already is. For example, Satan is a title that Lucifer once held. Satan means "opponent" and it was the only angel who was allowed to question God as God would smite any other angel who did. The Angel of Judgment questioned the creation of humans and was instantly struck down by God for insolence. Pretty difficult to align "Satan is a title" with the claim that "Satan is real" without contradicting yourself.

Something I just noticed. At 1:52, when Emily smacks away Sera’s hands and makes it clear that she won’t let her treat her like she’s been treating her (like a kid), she starts showing more angelic traits. The symbol on her chest turns into an eye and an eye appears at the center of her crown as well. I also believe her eyes start to glow (the ones on her face). These are all signs of how serious she is and she’s also presenting a physical reminder to Sera of who she is, not some kid to be protected and kept in the dark but an angel with power, responsibilities, and a will of her own. Such great attention to detail!

I don't think that is what it was supposed to be, we see multiple times in this show that demons have a transformation the more power they draw on. remember Hell is NOT the good guys, every person and soul in that place are horrible evil self serving souls. even the ones watchers like to think are good, they aren't. Just look at the army that Charlie brings in, CANIBALS. listen to their song. Sera is right to want to protect order, and because there has already been two uprising in hells history in this world, first was Lucifer's rebellion and fall. The in his song he talks about trying it all before, he challenged order again. Hells souls already outnumber Heavens and grow every passing second. Emily agreeing with Charlie is mirroring Lucifer's fall you even see Sera fearful of that. she is questioning good and order and will get the consequences of that when she is turned into a demon and falls.

Angel was giving only half-assed participation in all of Charlie’s redemption exercises, while Sir Pentious was giving it his all. In the show she even called Sir Pentious their first guest despite Angel being there much longer. When you stop and think about it, from what was shown, Charlie didn’t really see him change at all up to this point. Sure he saved Sir Pentious from battle, and she almost certainly heard him begging Valentino not to hurt her, but he was still the same innuendo-filled spider demon he always was, never mind his contractually (en)forced job. She wasn’t there for “Loser Baby,” or the fight afterwards. The most meaningful thing she saw him do was forgive her for interfering with his job (and nearly lighting him on fire). Despite all of this, when she was finally able to present the hotel to Heaven, who did Charlie chose as THE example that the hotel was doing good? Who was Charlie so proud of that she just HAD to show them to the most important people she’s ever interacted with (except her dad), for quite possibly the single most important meeting of her entire life? When they decided to observe them, did Charlie change her mind and suggest anyone else? NO! Because she knew if there’s anyone they HAVE to see, it HAS to be HIM! Angel And he (probably) doesn’t even know it.

1:45 I have to put on my art/english teacher hat on for this, but I love the simple symbolism of a friendly, welcoming face with fire in the eyes. Everything about the design is inviting and warm - the eyes are even slightly bigger to come off as softer - but since our pov is of the younger sibling looking and seeing the sister she loves as a monster, we have the fire to create the uncanny ambiguity of implied danger mixed with a genuine insistence of necessary evils. It's very obvious symbolism, I know, but it hust happens to be one of my favorite cliches for an antagonist to be genuinely, to an almost wholesome degree, trying to convince an innocent that they aren't awful. The juxtaposition of love and horror is always fun to see done well

Emily isn't so ignorant. She is just open to Charlie's idea of redemption rather than outright rejectx it. She judges Angel Dust solely based on his behaviors rather than bias, although the criteria is just something random made by Adam. The moment she realizes Sera's plan and Adam's atrocity, she shows complete disgust, but she still asks Sera to explain, who keeps telling "I am older so I will shoulder" to dismiss her opinions. This actually leads to existential crisis, as angels who are supposed to be benevolent are lying and causing massacres while refusing to listen to others' pleads. Emily is similar to Charlie, who are genuinely good at heart, but still stand their grounds.

It’s hard to say what’s right or wrong, people have a number of biases that justify this or that. Sera believes that it is the best solution to maintain a lasting peace, at worst it is evil done with good intention. And this is not necessarily wrong, some people in hell are really ambitious and could do a lot of damage if they had enough strength to face heaven (I’m not saying it’s right, it’s horrific to justify an extermination, I’m just doing the devil’s advocate, not sure that this expression exists in English). If we consider that Sera deserves to fall, then all the generals, intelligence chiefs and military officers deserve to fall in hell with her and the majority of people do not consider them monsters. If we consider that it is ok to make preventive strikes, by extension, is Sera really wrong? (PS: for me, even with this reasoning, yes, she is wrong, but the no is acceptable and justifiable)

The fire part seemed less like Sera was evil and more that she’s trying to justify to herself responsibilities she feels forced to uphold. Sera’s whole character was protecting heaven from hell’s uprising. She’s working only with the fears and uncertainty that Adam sold to her. Deep down, Sera knows what she’s doing is awful and wrong, and she even clearly holds back comments of disgust from Adam, such as “I never would have agreed to your… yearly activities if I thought it would bring trouble to our doorstep” The scene was more illustrating the struggle Sera has with knowing she’s responsible for countless deaths and attempting to alienate them as ‘it keeps heaven safe from a rebellion by hell’

When Adam is about to spill the beans and Sera goes to warn him to stop, _Em reacts to it with shock._ Em realized at that point that _whatever Adam was about to say, her sister was _*_part_*_ of it._ She already knew that Sera was involved in whatever horrible thing was about to be said, and she just wanted to be wrong which is why she asks 'Tell me, please, Sera, that you didn't know!' She knows the answer already but it has rocked her to her core to know what her sister has done. She doesn't want to be right, but knows she is. The moral courage Emily shows in this song is just incredible. She's clearly the subordinate seraphim, but as Sera is trying to dismiss Charlie, it's Emily who breaks in with "but she was right, Sera", clear and true. Then when she hears about the exterminations, she immediately expresses her shock and outrage, and when Sera tries to justify it, Emily's response is "to think that I admired you," followed by a frankly-vicious takedown of Sera's hypocrisy. The whole thing is glorious in the moment, but more than that, it's the sort of steadfast conviction that almost no one in real life can manage, but which we should all aspire to. No wonder Emily's an angel.

I never thought about it until recently but this entire song is a brilliant excercise in exposition. We start out by learning that the angels don’t know what gets people into heaven in the first place. Then the angels figure out about the extermination. We have one piece of info that heaven was keeping secret and one piece of info that hell was keeping secret. And we finish with something the audience didn’t know and that’s the fact that Vagie was an angel. I used to think the song got its name from Emily saying you didn’t know but in reality it’s the song gets its name from multiple characters learning this information in the song. It’s a brilliant way to do exposition.
@ethanduncan16462 ай бұрын
A good song in a musical can provide more characterization and give more information about the mindset and motivation of characters in a few short minutes than half an hour of normal exposition can. It is a rather neat trick that alot of musicals/plays do. Especially with the show being animated so the imagery of the song in question can be very detailed to provide even more characterization than normal. Basically compressing an entire episode's worth of drama and conflict into a single potent song. It's kinda awesome.
