Damita Jo is the GOAT of Soul Train dancers. She may have looked older but she was only 18 or 19 when she did this performance with the Godfather in 1973. Being born in 1954 she was barely legal James may have looked. He did hire her to dance on his tour from what I've read. Just think she said she have never heard this record and said her moves were all reactions to the music she heard. INCREDIBLE!!

I watched him fire a guitar player on stage at the Ryman, around 2000. Dude kept turning his amp up, and James would walk over and turn it back down. Now, it wasn’t overpoweringly more loud; James just had such a great ear that he could hear it, even when dude kept trying to sneak. Finally, the 3rd time the guitar player eased back to bump his volume up, James stormed over and yanked dude’s cord out of the amp, actually ripping it in half. He told dude to get his shit and “GET OFF MY STAGE...You’re DONE!” Guy tilted his Bassman combo back and wheeled it off stage, and lost his gig right there. The other 2 guitarists were tearing it UP, for the rest of the show!

James Brown's band was one of the tightest in show business but for running the band with an iron fist, supposedly he fired anyone who showed up to rehearsals drunk and would even fine musicians $50 for not having their shoes shined. But when you hear their music you KNOW that their shoes are shined...
