So, something to point out: in real Norse myth, Jormungandr is the son of Loki. The Serpent in game was stated to have been flung back in time during his battle with Thor during Ragnarok. But the big thing I wanted to point out is whe Atreus was calling Jormungandr, his eyes glowed a couple times. Really neat hinting.

Aside from the sidequest filler arc, I really enjoyed this LP. Sucks that Woolie got spoiled on Atreus as I feel like we could've gotten a stronger reaction out of him. Instead we got Pat's almost-fake-sounding "oh... shit." since he either figured it out on his own or a recommended video spoiled it for him or some such. Oh well, they got pretty hype during Atreus' aerial archery bit.
@ShinobiPhoenix-YT06 жыл бұрын
Carlos Hernandez I wonder if Woolie was spoiled on Atreus the exact same way I did. I was Googling something and typed in "Atreus" and the auto complete question first result was "... Is Loki". I was furious.
@kingkino21166 жыл бұрын
He wasn't spoiled, Pat's norse lore dumps pretty much gave it away
@ShinobiPhoenix-YT06 жыл бұрын
Well, his Lore Dump is full of holes. It doesn't explain who Kratos is in the Mythology now, one has to look that up for themselves. They did make it fit somehow. One thing I got wrong because the Marvel Movies CHANGED it too (and made a lot of people assumptive since that is their only reference to Norse) is that Laufey was ALWAYS female so I was confused on how Atreus could be Loki since Kratos is the father and I was like "did they make Laufey female?". No, Marvel make Laufey MALE in the first Thor movie.
@kato0936 жыл бұрын
Carlos Hernandez pat figuring out something ? You serious? The only things he "figured out" were obvious things when he started researching norse mythology to seem smart during the LP and probably stumbled across gow references. Like he is so smart, so much better than us, when he figured out balder is baldr and the mistletoe part, except it was obvious the second he says "i cant feel anything". There are like 5 important asgardians and one if them is loki, a fake asgardian. Wouldnt be surprised if pat spoiled himself the whole game's story just to look smart during the LP by making "guesses", Given how much he listened to 90% of the dialogue and how much he actually understood during the gameplay. The detroit LP taught me the only things he may figure out are the things people write in the comments or around in the internet when he searches for them. Ffs he kept hitting balder and every enemy immune to the axe for at least 10 times before the game just goes "fuck it. He is too dumb and its normal easy mode.he even grinded to be op" and just lets him kill immune enemies anyway. No matter how many times the axe bounces he will keep hitting. That dude "figuring out" stuff? Lmao the smartest thing he ever did was probably figure out where his socks and underwear are every morning after a 30 minutes treasure hunt. With the help of matt.

BIG SPOILER MYTHOLOGY FUN FACTS WATCH BEFORE READING, SERIOUSLY The fact that Atreus is Loki has additional layers of cool stuff in Norse Mythology. His mother would have been the queen of the giants, the giantess Laufey (which is why she went by Faye as a mortal). Kratos, therefore, takes over the role of Laufey's husband and Loki's father, Farbauti. His name means, depending on translation, either "Cruel Striker" or "Striker of Powerful Blows". Both fitting epithets for everyone's favorite angry Spartan.

So Pat has the myths slightly wrong. Baldur's death signifies the beginning of Fimbulwinter, a great desolate winter that kills everything that's not a god/giant/monster. Before Ragnarok happens, Fimbulwinter (Fimbulvetr) has to happen, a winter so harsh and powerful as well as lasting 3 winters, taking place over Summer even (so either 3 years of harsh winter or just 3 seasons) where all life on Earth are supposed to die out before Ragnarok starts. So it's safe to assume that if the game follows a trilogy like the previous series (excluding the spin-offs of course), Fimbulwinter will be GoW5 and Ragnarok will be GoW6.

Hey guys gals and everyone. This LP really came to me at a very dark and crushing time in my life. The videos have been amazing, and so have the comment sections, which I laughed at after finishing each episode. At one point in that dark time, I was going through each day in utter mental agony and finding myself in a terrible situation. And then suddenly, the first Baldur fight happened and the TBFP were so endearingly hype about it, I was hooked. Every time a notification of a new episode came up, it brightened my day and gave me something to look forward to in my free time. Side quests aside, I've enjoyed this the whole way through, and seeing the end of this..........it really makes me feel something. And in a way, finishing it with the rest of these people in the comments feel great. The game was fantastic, the Zaibatsu were fantastic, and the comments were fantastic. Glad to see it through, and glad to feel this catharsis at the end. I hope you all find wonderful times in life. They do appear, despite the darkness in between. This was all very sappy and emotional but I'm glad to have said it.

I always interpreted her half rotting or corpse-cold.
@godsplayingfield6 жыл бұрын
Fjarhultian honestly, it changes depending on the story/myth she is in. sometimes she is described as half skeletal with green fire of an eye, other times described as you interpreted. i chalk this up to either she is shown in varying stages of decay and the myths arent in any particular order (or time is weird in the realm of the dead, which is possible) or her dead half is dependant on who see's her in some capacity i aint sure of, but wouldnt be the first time that would be a thing (especially considering her father, so i'm sure she has some gimmicks she cant control much) or hel maybe represents the state of hel itself and her dead half shows the condition of the realm in some way. in any case, i went with full skeletal cause it feels more comical than half rotting and my comment was a mix of joke and stating how messed up Art's love life is gonna be later down the road lol though honestly Kratos would probably be like "........ *ZEEEUUUUSSSS* ..... he really is of our blood...." considering Zeus loved to be animals and rape basically anything with a pulse..... and sometimes without one....

See now I need the sequel when Atreus comes home and goes: "So umm... dad... I found out I could shapeshift today! I turned into a horse! No, a girl horse... and umm.... so you're going to be a granddad!" and the follow-up later that Christmas after Kratos spent all that extra time finding 8 perfect little iron shoes for his grandson, "So I met this super cool wolf in Jötunheimr today..." and then later the "Also I went back in time and it seems the World Serpent is my son... so that's pretty cool!" and then "So I have a son that is actually two people except that he isn't and he's also literally the concept of night ..." and then "So my wife and I had a little girl! She so cute dad, you'll love her! Just be careful, because half of her seems to be well... corpse is a bit of a strong word... oh, no she's fine! Very lively! She likes punching things! Takes after you! My wife wants to name her Hel, pretty funny huh? I should get her an internship there later when she's older, the pun will be amazing!" And then Kratos takes up drinking...

More fun facts: Loki, in real norse myth, is stated to be the son of two Jotun: Laufey and Farbauti. The Guys missed it, but there’s dialogue of Mimir talking about how Fey, Atreus’ mother, was really Laufey the Just (or some similar title). Additionally, if you translate the runes on the wall in Jotunheim, the Jotun refer to Kratos as Farbauti. The name means “Cruel Striker” (fitting), but there interesting concepts in that Loki was a fire god and Farbauti was conncted to lightning strikes, thus the idea of wild fires spawning from lightning strikes.
@Azraelseraphim6 жыл бұрын
Makes sense considering Grandpappy Zeus was all about the lightning and even lent the ability to Kratos.

Ragnarok does not immediately start with Baldur's death. First comes Fibbelwinter, a deep and extended harsh winter that covers the entire world in snow and ice for three years. Then at the end of three years of winter the Ragnarok begins. And even then it takes quite some time to play out. Loki makes alliances with various foes of Asgard. The World Seprent, the great wolf Fenrir, Hel and her legions of the dead from Helheim, the Giants of Jotenheim, the Dark Elves of Svartelheim, and the Dark Dwarves and Fire Spirits of Musphelhiem rise and attack Asgard in a long protracted war against the Aesir Gods of Asgard and the Enherjar armies of Valhalla. The enemies of Asgard siege the golden city and it's towering walls for years and destroy the rainbow Bifrost bridge cutting the Aesir off from any reinforcements from their allies, the world of Men, the Light Elves, and the Dwarves. allowing the fire giant Surt'r time to forge the Sword of Twilight which is the only thing capable of igniting the stars, catching the World Tree, Yadgastril, alight and burning Asgard and all of creation to the ground. Strangely enough some of the very few survivors of the original Ragnarok stories are Magni and Modi, sons of Thor (most versions only speak of Magni as being the sole survivor of Asgard), which obviously isn't going to be the case in the games.
@lucasmartinez57036 жыл бұрын
That's a whole lot of God of War to look forward to.
@Robscott55986 жыл бұрын
yeah, but the games are obviously going to need to go in their own direction and do something different. I mean the whole "End of the World" theme many historians and enthusiasts ascribe to Ragnarok couldn't be farther from the original intentions of the story. In all versions of it's retelling Magni finds other survivors among the Vanier Gods, they make a new race of Gods and recreate men, Baldur returns and shines like a new sun over a reborn world that rises from the ashes of the old, and eventually over time all the Aesir Gods return to life and the process starts over again. An unending cycle that most likely was meant to portray the stories used to explain the changing of seasons and the cyclical nature of each year to an ancient and superstious peoples. The future GoW games will most likely aim for real finality and closure and go their own storytelling direction instead, but yeah there are still a lot of fun pieces there to tell one hell of a story with.

Theory: Knowing that Kratos will eventually die and how the Gods are perceived as villains in this game. In general norse mythology Loki is considered the villain, but since the gods here are the villains, he'll be considered the hero. Once Kratos dies, we'll most likely follow the journey of Atreus getting his "revenge". Or, since Atreus was going crazy in the middle of the game, I think he'll only be called Loki when he acts that way. Whenever there is a 180 turn to a persons personality, that's usually represented by a different name. So perhaps we'll have a story of Atreus vs. Loki, two different mindsets fighting to see who will stay. Therefore part of that struggle will result in Kratos' death, Loki taking over and fighting his father only to regret it later as Atreus.

I want to say that Atreus's attitude changed for a few reasons. He learned he was a god (at least part anyway) and power can easily corrupt whether an adult or even a child. Kratos didn't exactly stop him until things had hit their worst. He also drank on their way out of Tyr's temple. Even if he wasn't drunk per say alcohol is notorious for removing one's inhibitions.

That last panel on the Jotenheim prophecy Wall is a Very Smart way to set up the continuation of the GOW series. This essentially makes the entire game into an origin story for Atreus, aka. Loki, setting him up as the focus of the next game, essentially creating a natural “baton pass” to the next generation. Lots of credit to whoever came up with this.

For anyone coming back to this in the future; remember the boat story Kratos told Atreus about the thief and his mother. He ripped off her ear for he only know stealing and his mother indulged him with no punishment or discipline while raising him. She was blind to see the thief he was; only that he was her son. This is Baldur and Freya’s dynamic and why she couldn’t see how far he had gone, no longer the boy she raised

I think the reason Atreus went crazy after Tyr's Vault is not because of the black rune or knowing he's a god, but because he's drunk after drinking the wine with Kratos, that's why he couldn't remember what he had done when he was in Hel.

Ragnarok was never instantaneous after Baldur’s death, a ton of stuff takes place between the events like Loki’s confession and subsequent torture and Odin taking a pop quiz with a giant
@XboxGamer2206 жыл бұрын
It will be curious to see how the events are gonna transpire in the next game. The prophecy on the wall seems to suggest that Kratos' death happens whilst Atreus is still young. Perhaps following his death, Atreus will be punished (chained to the rock, venom dripping, etc) and because of how long he spends there he gets older and then joins the war

Interesting plot point: Freya is actually a worse parent than Kratos, to a reasonable extent. Her intentions were good, sure. But, as Mimir pointed out, by protecting them from ANY pain, loss, or unpleasant experiences, you're depriving them of the experiences that make life worth living and the struggles that teach them how to deal with life in general. Kratos, on the other hand, teaches BOI how to adapt and overcome the many struggles he will encounter and how to do so without becoming lost in his Godhood and power. Truly, Kratos is the Dad of War.
