What's amazing is throughout the history of the Dallas Cowboys, they've always had a dominant Defensive Tackle accept currently. It started with Bob Lilly, the Randy White,, then on to the Jimmy Johnson era with Russell Maryland, and Leon Lett. It's been missing for quite some time now

Wayne CADDELL It's been much better this past year, been a while since I remember multiple sack games or being #2 in sacks with Lawrence. With more experience for those new corners the defense should continue to improve and allow more time for pressure to hit and hopefully cause more turnovers as a Tampa 2 defense should be doing for the offense.

The greatness of a dynasty can take different shapes. Green Bay and Pittsburgh packed 4-5 world titles into 8-9 years with essentially the same team. Dallas and Oakland wrote a story of franchise greatness with 20 years at or near the top. Brady's Patriots did both across two decades.

Duane just needed a different type of treatment. Not special treatment, but respectful treatment. These days, half of the team needs special treatment. So if you wanted his talent, ask him what's the problem. In RB meetings, RB player coach Dan Reeves would take roll call. With like 6 guys in the room. Thomas would just sit there and look at him like: are you serious? We're grown men, and you have a page where you take roll call. Several times he was marked absent because Reeves was a prick. Maybe that's why he never won a Super Bowl as a coach. There's so much to do. Do guys really need that?

The original version of this film includes a very good brief review of the origins of the Dallas Cowboys franchise. Considering this was the Cowboys breakthrough year, when they finally won the whole thing for the first time, the brief background segment adds a lot to the story of this highlight film. Having it edited out takes a lot away from the real story of this important episode of the early years of the Super Bowl.
@timtray85808 жыл бұрын
Stacie you are correct about editing out the segment about the history of The Cowboys. They have done similar editing to some of the other highlight shows.

Tim Tray It is just especially a shame with this one. It talks about Tom Landry and the lean early years of the Cowboys, steps to build the team like drafting Bob Lilly out of TCU, early postseason setbacks against the Packers and the Browns, etc. I've never really been a Cowboys fan but the 60's and 70's were a transformative period for pro football and the Cowboys were a big part of it. That short segment adds a lot to the story.

Good observation. The Cowboys had been in the Super Bowl the previous year, Instead of playing mobile Heismann trophy winner Roger Staubach, he chose to go with Craig Morton, who threw a lot more interceptions than Roger. I think that Fran Tarkenton showed the value of a mobile Quarterback in the 70's with the Vikings: Extend plays. I know that Brady is successful just dropping back, but look at say, Wilson of the Seahawks. He could drop back, but he can always extend the the play if something goes wrong. Tom Brady may be one of the last "statues". Look at these young guys who have wheels. It's pretty fun to watch.

What is that music at 11:50? Its awesome, and by far my favorite part of the video.
@scottmitchell36416 жыл бұрын
Louis' Theme (aka Headcracker Suite) by Sam Spence. It's very emotional and surges through you with fantastic energy and at the same time captures perfectly this critical moment in the game where Dallas seizes total control, completely dominates and overwhelms Miami with tremendous power, and shatters for the very first time and also once and for all the label of "The Team That Can't Win The Big One", after 5 straight years (5 !!!) of Dallas coming up agonizingly short in bitter failures each time. And then the incredible statements at the same time by John Facenda just put everything over the top in awesome fashion. The music and the words together are incredibly stirring. "The second half opened with tactical maneuvers on both sides. Shula and Buoniconti discussed means to SEAL THE MIDDLE . . . . . . while Landry planned counteraction. Miami sensed the importance of this first series: HOLD, OR BE SWALLOWED UP. Buoniconti rooted in and tackle Manny Fernandez #75 stacked over center. . . . THE SHOCKED DOLPHINS WATCHED DALLAS FLY OUTSIDE. The flanks opened and Duane Thomas flowed into the secondary." --skip-- continuing .... "71 YARDS, IN 8 PLAYS .. 7 OF THEM SWEEPS. And the stunned Dolphins were suddenly down 17-3". Perhaps NFL Films' finest hour and John Facenda's finest hour as well ...both at the very same time. And Sam Spence's finest hour too at the same time. For you true Dallas Cowboys fans that have been around awhile and really know your stuff --I mean really remember the entire say 1965 through 1995 time period of Dallas Cowboy history in detail, ------notice a somewhat similar drive situation that occurs a full 22 years later in Super Bowl 28. Dallas enters the second half trailing Buffalo 6-13. Buffalo even gets the second half kickoff. But safety James Washington of Dallas makes the most spectacular pick 6 in Super Bowl history to quickly tie the score 13-13. Dallas kickoff to Buffalo. Dallas holds Buffalo. Buffalo punts. Dallas ball at the Dallas 36. And what happens? 64 yards, in 8 plays ...7 of them devastating runs by Emmitt Smith. And the stunned Bills were suddenly down 13-20. Emmitt Smith for 9 yards, 3 yards, 9 yards, 7 yards, 14 yards, 4 yards. All in a row. Aikman pass completion to Daryl Johnston for 3 yards. Emmitt Smith 15 yards and Touchdown. Dallas goes on to a 30-13 victory.
@scottmitchell36416 жыл бұрын
CORRECTION: In Super Bowl 28 safety James Washington of Dallas does NOT MAKE A SPECTACULAR PICK 6 to quickly tie the score 13-13. His former teammate, Mercury Morris said he couldn't believe an amazing talent like Duane was blocking for him, and not the other way around, Duane Thomas was an incredible player and athlete, and everybody knew it, that knows anything, and when he got totally screwed by his agent, divorced, and mishandled by the team, which of course included the owner, coach, etc., and players who didn't stand up for themselves and left him to carry the load (pardon the pun), he was pissed, and they completely ripped him off when he was broke by paying him enough to cover his bills, and the rest was barely enough to get by on, and he was pissed off!!!!!!!!!! Hits like 14:25 these days will result in fines and/or a mandatory "visit" with the commissioner...if your ass don't get ejected (if you hit Brady heaven forbid). He blew Staubach the fuck up!

That's "The Pony Soldiers" from Sam Spence. Sam just left us on the eve of the last Super Bowl. He composed numerous scores for NFL Films. You can find the names and composers of these scores on YT if you search 'NFL Films Music 70's' or variations of that subject.

So the Dolphins have two distinct Super Bowl records. They went undefeated, and scored the lowest points in a Super Bowl ever.

Ryan Blanche, Ryan, actually they have a several. As great as Don Shula was, he never won another Super Bowl. He had freaking Dan Marino, yet only went once, losing to the Joe Montana led and coached by the Bill Walsh, owned by Eddie Debartolo. The GM was Carman Policy
