I'm from Andalucía, Spain, and I can confirm that most cabinets in bars had either this, Street Fighter II or King of Dragons. And those are some of my favourite games from childhood, so I'm not mad. It's a pity the SNES version of this game doesn't have the 2P mode the arcade had. It was a blast playing with a friend.

Pang is part 1 in the series and also called Buster Bros. (and Pomping World on the PC Engine). The game shown here is called Super Pang / Super Buster Bros. and is the second game in the series. Then there is Pang 3 - these 3 games were released as Super Pang Collection / Buster Bros. Collection on the PS1. Part 4 of the series was called Mighty Pang & was never ported to anything = arcade only game. The SNES port here is still a good game but they botched out the 2 Player mode - if you want that get the Collection for PS1.

I remember playing the Arcade cabinet at a hotel 20+ years ago here in Austria - it was called Super Pang here also. It was during a ski trip and it was so warm outside the snow was terribly soft and it wasn't any fun to actually ski. So I started playing this at the hotel (I guess I was around 8 years old) in the afternoon and apparently I was really good as I was playing for what felt like an eternity. I remember more and more kids came to watch me play, one or 2 of the kids asked if they could join me for a while (the Arcade was 2 player, not sure about the SNES version) and I remember one kid even donated his only coin so I could keep playing after my only game over (he didn't want to "waste" it he said). If I remember correctly I played through it twice (I think it just looped after finishing it) and when I got through it the second time there were like 10 kids applauding. I felt like a hero - sounds like a cheesy The Wizard kind of movie now looking back haha Very fond memories, this and the Kaiserschmarrn (which was and still is the best I have ever had) are the only good memories of that vacation since the snow was so bad :) The trick was to not aimlessly shoot around but pop one big balloon at a time - then one of the next size - one of the next size and so one. To always reduce the amount of balloons to a minimum. I guess that's what impressed most of the kids, who would just constantly shoot.

I think in the original arcade version, the pistol was not so overpowered with its spread bullets, so there were occasions that it wasn't useful at all. The downside with the pistol is that you can only hit the bubble if you stand right below it, because there is no trajectory path like the normal shot. In addition the power-up where the shot gets stuck to the ceiling is indeed quite slow, but it's incredibly useful on the sections where the ceiling is low and the regular shot get absorbed before the bubbles crash into it. So, at least in the original arcade version, all weapons felt balanced. Also, you could play co-op there. Isn't that possible on the SNES version?

Ah yes, the horned melon, AKA, the Kiwano Melon. The most confusing fruit. It's firm and spikey, but slice it open and it's like a very watery cucumber and it tastes like a banana. Not too bad, and since it stores so much water it also hydrates you when you eat it.
