About The Game:
Super Castlevania IV is a platform game developed and published by Konami and the first Castlevania game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.The game was originally released in 1991 and later re-released on the Virtual Console in 2006 for the Wii, in 2013 for the Wii U, and in 2016 for the New Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo re-released Super Castlevania IV in the United States in September 2017 as part of the company's Super NES Classic Edition.
Super Castlevania IV features expanded play control, 16-bit graphics featuring SNES Mode 7, and a soundtrack featuring brand new pieces and arrangements based on previous Castlevania music. Following the same setting as Castlevania on the NES, the game takes place in 1691 Transylvania, where the vampire hunter Simon Belmont must defeat the vampire Dracula.

I mean he doesn't need to be all serious, it is possible to review a game in a fun, light manner, I just wish he would cut the jokes entirely cause it can be unbearable. I even considered stop watching his videos becuase of that. Good thing he's a decent writer and pretty good reviewer.

Lucas Garibaldi Agreed. Whenever he "tells a joke", it doesn't feel natural. It feels like he's writing and things, "Uh oh. I think it's time to insert a joke. Uhhh... uhhh... I'm getting nervous. I don't know... ummmm" and then he just throws something out there and spends the next 10 seconds apologizing for it. Not everyone has to be funny. Just do the reviews.

I completely agree. I really enjoy his reviews but these jokes just take me out of the emersion. He is talented and does work with talented people. I wonder if he is the soul writer for the scripts? When it comes to just facts and story the review is incredible. Yet the jokes just flop.You would think with his increase in crew and coworkers in his office that he would get better support. I don't know, I honestly wish we saw more of an impact from Alex. When he does jump in for some jokes and trivia the review truly does benefit from it. Maybe jirard just needs to do an overhaul on some of the format. A change seems necessary. At this rate I'm just losing interest.

Yea the items are what makes the game so easy. Most bosses just melt to the level 3 boomerang. Whip only challenge run is definitely a lot more difficult but is one of the easier castlevania games to do it in.

Jirard, I love you. Just wanted to help you deal with pronunciation problems with Japanese names. Vowels are very easy because they usually sound the same every time. A=ah(i.e. blah), I=ee(i.e. meek), U=oo(i.e. poop), E=eh(i.e. bleh), O=oh(i.e. moh money moh problems). Consonants are normal for the most part. Hope that helps.

Simon's Quest was my introduction to Castlevania, and I was super disappointed to find out that the other entries in the series were linear action games. I thought ripping on Castlevania 2 would've gone out of style by now, as even James Rolfe admitted that he did his Castlevania 2 video more as a friendly roast, rather than truly disliking the game.

+darkfalzx problem with simons quest is that its too cryptic in some areas, the early zelda games suffer from this as well. I think nintendo probably designed the games that way on purpose to sell more of their magazines & to keep their phone-in tip service in business.

Unshaved Malevolence I first played Simon's Quest in 1989, so the only other Castlevanias available at the time were 1, 3 and CV: Adventure on GameBoy - all action games. Castlevania continued to be an exclusively action series for the next ten years, until Symphony of the Night. And if you ever bother to play Simon's Quest, and not just listen to angry game reviewers, you'd discover that it's actually an excellent game of its time.

Correction, Castlevania/Super Castlevania IV is/are NOT a sequel to Simon's Quest chronologically. It's the other way around; Simon's Quest takes place a few years after Castlevania/Super Castlevania IV. Anyway, solid review, I basically agree with it all; its graphics, gameplay, and atmosphere are amazing, but the bosses are mostly easy and the music is mostly forgettable compared to the memorable and catchy tunes of other games. It's my favorite of the Classicvanias, with Castlevania 3 (Famicom version) just behind it.

it doesnt -ALL- take place in draculas castle. first it is in a small fortress. then a forest. then a cave system. then waterfalls. then a sunken city. then another fortress. then some mountains, then finally draculas castle. the first half is simons journey to draculas castle. the latter half id dracula's castle itself. cool huh?\ also. dun get used to simons whip in this game. after this it's back to the old whip style. and the rest of the series (sotn onwards) will have the old whip style for whip-wielding characters but you can flail the whip around like in scv4. but to my knowlege they never re-use the control style from this game. so savor it.

Jeff Bond a) Hahahah @ the idea that any version of FFX is hard. All Kitase Final Fantasy games are super easy and X is no exception. The only interesting fights are the Seymour ones. The Dark Aeon fights are pretty much, "Did you grind enough out of the sphere grid yet?" That's not challenging, that's boring. b) Getting to 9999/9999 on all chars with 255 in all stats, isn't hard, it's boring. Once you know what to do to get the job done, get the right items to more quickly get done with every character's sphere grid, and know how to get the Celestial Weapons, it's not hard at all. It's just time consuming and a total bore. Unfortunately, too many modern Square RPGs confuse something taking time and grinding to "challenging". And if we bring in the superbosses, that's another chore. I despise the superbosses of FFX and FXII not because they're hard, but because it's basically an hour of doing the same stuff over and over and over again after maxing everyone out. That's not real strategy. A true RPG challenge demands that you understand HOW you upgrade your character, the PURPOSE in it, and then how to APPLY it to a strategy within combat for maximum results in terms of how to avoid dying and do max damage. If you want good examples of this in a RPG made in Japan, the Etrian Odyssey games are the best example.

TheDuckClock No, I hope not. It's just easy to full complete. I want to see him do a game where he has to collect a lot, do a lot, and achieve a lot. They're more interesting to me. Just knowing that he did something like beat Castlevania IV, which is fairly difficult, isn't that interesting to me.

Castlevania 4 is awesome, but I like Castlevania 3 better, just because of the replayability with the multiple paths and characters. On another note, Chrono Trigger for the next Completionist?

Hard mode for Super Castlevania 4 should have just implemented the character control from the original first game. (No midair direction changing, only whipping on a horizontal plane, etc.)

You should do Rondo of Blood and see which game you like better. I think it's pretty split among the Castlevania faithful which is the better classic-vania.

Uhhh... one problem. You said the game is too easy, but before that you said that beating the game lets you play the game on a harder difficulty and that each subsequent victory makes the game harder and harder. Sure its easy now... but after a few playthroughs wouldn't it become just as difficult as the original Castlevania? Yes, it's not that hard to begin with, but this is Super Nintendo, not classic NES which forced your pre-teen balls through a meat grinder from square one just to stay alive.
