What happens if we already have a game pass core account but never upgraded to ultimate? New to Xbox and just put in a 12 month core code bought through Costco 2 days ago. Reoccurring billing is off. Can I add another 12 month core code and then do the 1 month ultimate?

You absolutely should be able to. MSFT just published an update to the conversion ratio: Core is now 2:1 PC Game Pass is 3:2 Gamepass standard / console is 4:3 EA Play is 3:1 Game pass core can go to 36 months so you can stack up to 36 months, convert with the 1 month of ultimate to get 18 months+1 for 19 months, and then extend GamePass ultimate through additional conversions.

Is that the logic of why one should wait until their ultimate account expires? Or does the new 2:1 conversion rate moot the bit about waiting? Update: answered my own question. Going from Core to Ultimate is 2:1 ratio in prepaid. After you’re already ultimate, the ratio is much much worse (more like 3:1 or 4:1 depending on the code). So it’s still better to load up on core, and then leap to ultimate.

Works great! Core is on sale at CDKeys and picked-up 3 years for $113.67. Converted to Ultimate for $0 (redeemed a 1-month Ultimate Pass had on hand from a previous TV purchase). Ended with 25-months of Ultimate for $4.55/month :)

This is boss. FYI the prompts and screens have changed. It does not give the button slider for the 1 additional month when redeeming the 12 month core codes, only when you go to redeem the ultimate code now. I redeemed 2 x 12 month core, then the 1 month ultimate. After the 1 month ultimate, it did offer the recurring button for 1 free extra month. After that, it did not give me that would you like to convert or any message. I went back to services and subscribtions and i now have ultimate game pass through December of 2025. Total Cost - 12mth xbox core on cdkeys 42.89 x 2 + 1 month ultimate on cdkeys 10.99 = 96.77 for 17 months. (would have been 340 if paying 20 a month). Big win. Will share this video and liked/subbed

FYI the conversion will be capped to 13 months on Sept 12, 2024. You’re good, they won’t take time away, but if you want to add more at a 2:1 conversion you can get up to 36 months

If you convert to ultimate it will convert all your time from core to ultimate, regardless of the length of the promo. I didn’t have that option so I bought a month.

If you purchase an Xbox Gold card at Walmart which they still sell which transfers over to core you cannot redeem it unless you give them a credit card or a PayPal account and they told me they will not allow you to redeem gift cards unless you give them a PayPal or credit card account even though you paid them cash up front and it says nothing on the card that you have to give them that information to redeem so I'm out $25

They must have changed the conversion rate. I bought 3 years of core and I month of ultimate. I got 19 months of ultimate. Xbox Game Pass Core conversion ratio: Any remaining time will convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time at a ratio of 2:1 and be rounded up to the next full day. For example, 90 days remaining of Xbox Game Pass Core will convert to 45 days of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate time.

The 1 month of ultimate at the end converts your 36 months of core to ultimate at a 3:2 rate. Turning 36 months to 24 months (3 years to 2) and then adding the 1 month you paid of ultimate for 25 total months of ultimate. That sale is amazing. About $50 less than I spent I believe making it an amazing value for ultimate.

You can absolutely do it at 12 months. You can get better pricing ratio at 36 months of core but the real trick there is using a company that gets the codes for cheap like cdkeys Yes I think it's worth it to get it now, only buy what you can afford and enjoy what you have, right? If you can't get anymore right now its no big deal.

The console trial for $1 will be the cheapest way to convert all of that time to ultimate so I recommend that. You can add up to 36 months of core before converting and it will go from 36 to 24 months of ultimate, then add in your ultimate code you redeemed. (Or 18 will convert to 12 months.)

I’m not sure what you are asking. The old Xbox Live codes have been working for a while. Not sure if they’re discontinued but I would doubt it.

When I tried this it wanted me to pay for ultimate month to month. Im curious if it will let you redeem your core early, when I did it I was told I was ineligible. But I don’t see why it wouldn’t convert automatically.

I'd just wait until GPass Ultimate expires and then redeem all the GPass Core months, then I'd redeem 1 month of GPass Ultimate. I read that adding GPass Core to active GPass Ultimate subscription does the conversion in 3:1 scale. To make it work in 3:2 scale you have to let GPass Ultimate expire first, then redeem all GPass Core months you want, then redeem 1 GPass Ultimate month, and it'll surely do it in 3:2 scale

Hi, i have a question about the 3:2 conversion ratio, is that applicable only if i convert from game pass core to ultimate? I.e. should my xbox ultimate subscription be expired for this ratio to work? I already have ultimate till Nov 24. So if i try to convert 12months game pass core to ultimate, it says i will get 4months ultimate That's the same info from MS website 6 months of Game Pass Core 81 days of Ultimate (2+ months) 12 months of Game Pass Core 4 months of Ultimate 24 months of Game Pass Core 6 months of Ultimate Am i missing something here, this is 3:1 not 3:2

If you have an existing ultimate subscription all conversions are 3:1 and not 3:2. So letting your account expire/ cancel will be the cheaper option.

I tried it with the 12 month core, I purchased 1 month game pass ultimates for $3 from CD keys and it converted my game pass to 12months and says recurring billing will start on 12/6/24

It would not let me use game pass core codes while I had an active ultimate subscription. I let mine expire by 1 day and did this.

After i redeem the 36 months core into game pass ultimate. Can i further add another 12 months of core to add to the game pass ultimate ? For another 8 months? Or is that not a vaild method after the fact?

We’re only allowed up to three years at a time, and the last time I tried to add core/console gamepass it said I couldn’t. I am curious if it will automatically adjust for you though.

Adding 8 months of Core while Ultimate is active (not yet expired) will convert the 8 Core months into almost 3 Ultimate months. This because if you redeem Core when Ultimate is active it converts it in 3:1 scale, instead of 3:2 scale. The 3:2 scale works only if you redeem the Core months while Ultimate is not active, and then you redeem 1 Ultimate month (you can also start the Ultimate subscription from Xbox store, without buying/redeeming an Ultimate gift card. Just remember to disable auto renew after buying it from the Xbox store). If you do this method to get the 3:2 scale conversion you'll get about 5 months of Ultimate, instead of less than 3

Okay. I'll have active game pass CORE for another 3 months still. So if I want to do this 'trick', do I need to wait that three months that i don't have any active game pass? if you have CORE active you can continue stacking more core on top and then converting. the trick doesn't work if you already have GamePass Ultimate active.

MSFT just announced major changes, the old version that SHOULD be good through Sept 2024 is a 3:2 conversion rate. So 12 core = 8 ultimate. New changes will scale based on $ amount. $10, $12, or $15 = their $ amount when converted
