Super Duty F250 F350 Driveshaft U Joint Carrier Bearing Replacement

Repairing and changing u-joints and carrier bearing on my rear driveshaft.
for greasable u joints position with the grease hole towards bottom for easy access
all torque specs included
mark everything good. I used acrylic nail polish
12mm 12 point socket
8mm socket
33mm socket
regular cheap harbor freight puller to take off carrier bearing after pulling the rubber off
regular pliers worked better to get the clips out and needle nose to install

​@michaelkern8856 I'm late to the party but, slide the carrier bearing onto the driveshaft, then put your yoke on, then the threadlocker, nut, then tighten and it will push the center support bearing into place. If the center support bearing doesn't want to slide bad far enough to thread the nut on then grab a piece of 2x4 or any wood and put it on preferably the yoke, then tap it back with a hammer or mallet to where you can then thread the nut on

To everybody wondering how to put the carrier bearing back on, buy 3 cans of air duster, turn them upside down and spray the shaft of the driveshaft and it will freeze it. Slide the carrier bearing on, may have to tap it a few times with a rubber mallet until it’s fully seated. Caution: the spray coming out of the cans will cause frostbite immediately if it comes into contact with skin and the fumes/vapor will cause harm to your lungs so use with caution, outside and maybe a fan to vent away from you and some welders gloves

Grocery stores have dry ice, I need to use it a lot for pumps and compressor rebuilds. Should work better, though I've never tried aerosol, but that's not a bad idea for something small in a pinch.

What size u-joints did you use? I used Dana Spicer 1410 and could get both inner snap rings to lock into the groove

Its just a cheap generic kit from ebay. I just bought the cheapest set I could find at the time and it hasn't failed me yet.

When I had to install the carrier drop bracket on my driveshaft I noticed the rubber was worn out. So I bought the whole kit to service the driveshaft. The u-joints did have more life left but the new ones feel way better/smooth. I went back with all spicer for reliability. It drives much smoother now but I never noticed it was that bad. I'm going through everything on this truck and doing maintenance/upgrades. Everything had 227k miles on it.

My truck also has 259 k or so on it. Noticed that the carrier moves up and down about 1 inch, I assume that is not normal

@@michaelkern8856 Yes, change it. My 2002 F-250 226K has this noise and the way I describe is a hum, gets louder as you go faster. Got underneath and my carrier bearing is toast!! Can a machine shop or drive line shop clean off the rust from drivelines and make them look better?

When you put that press clamp on you're only supposed to tighten it down around 40-60 foot pound and then tap on the sides so you don't spread the yolk.

I did a 4 with a hammer and socket. Then I got the press and did a 2 very carefully with a impact.The last 4 were pressed with a regular yellow ratchet I always use ( if I had my electric ratchet (35ftlb max) I would have used that). They all went in easy with no torque really needed. I tapped with a hammer to make sure everything moves good afterwards and it ran smooth and quiet for the few months I drove it.
