Just because you camping, doesn't mean you can't have a feast! After a great day off road 4wding, there is nothing better then a good roast chicken.
When people think of grabbing a tent and going camping, often they resort to quick food to have around the campfire. In this video I show you guys how easy camp oven cooking can be.

heck yeah I cant wait to chuck a chicken into a pot and chuck some veggies in then virtually chuck some coals on, I'm just playin though I love this guy and really enjoy the content he creates, but he did say virtually and chuck quite a few times. I think its a millennial thing. guys I work with are always saying "chuck this chuck that , toss that on,throw that on, bang that out, crank this crank that, I think they like to sound like everything is super easy and fast haha.It appeals to our short attention spans these days. @@MotoDUDEabides

A whole roast done in 1 hour, I can tell you don't enjoy a quite ale. Tip for dads who would like some peace from the tribe, use around 1/3 of the coals and you have a reason to sit around the fire for around 3 hours in the late afternoon. Thanks for the vid.

Another outstanding video Michael, thanks. Is ‘virtually’ your word-for-today? 🤓. I have a big cast iron camp oven and a big Bedourie spun steel oven, much lighter. Both have their pros n cons. I usually use a trivet in them to avoid burning / sticking to the bottom. Love cooking adventurous meals in the bush, they always taste better than the exact same thing cooked at home. Now I’ve bought a BT 50 with an awesome camping canopy I’m tempted to do the big drive across the Nullarbor and check out some of these very cool places you go. Keep up the good work!

Looks good but I reckon you're making too much work for yourself. Those coals won't be able to breathe in that hole and will die a lot quicker. Just cook near the fire with most of the coals on top to avoid burning the bottom.

Nice work mate, always a journey learning and growing when camping, my technique for cutting chicken is cut the chicken in half down the centre, then lay the cut section flat, and then you can slice the breast in nice slices from there! then the wings and leg, also don’t peel your veggies, pre wash before leaving home, just light clean don’t remove skins, thats where all the goodness is, or since I usually camp by rivers lakes or streams, just wash in camp oven lightly before cooking, obviously wash the dirt our before cooking. you can use anything, but I always try to take minimum of stuff camping, to many today need cool thing from the camping glamping store, like 5 bowls, when one thing can do multiple tasks, the secret of camping, keep up the vids mate, ps I also give the carcass to the dog, never waste anything, that said, only to a dog who is bone fed, and never longer than 12 hrs old, 24hrs the chicken bone is brittle and thats when dogs can get issues. he still prefers fresh rabbit and best when he catch’s it. I still take it cut the legs and back straps off, don’t like him eating guts, skin fur etc never know what that wabbit has been subjected to! You need a dog.

Great video mate. I like a bit of celery and onion with my chicken in the camp oven. I have to think that the cast iron camp oven is better than the spun steel bouderie type. The spun steel oven has it's place, but not for this dish. Perhaps you should use a small tomahawk axe to chape the legs of the table?? What would I know... I've never built one!! Keep turning out the videos the way you do them. Very informative and often humorous. Les from the Sunny Coast in Quensland. BTW, I used to charter fly onto the back beach of Frazer Island to pick up passengers. Know the island well...

Looks good, safety tip, next time you should try to put a smaller pan or something under the chicken but off the bottom so you can catch the stuff too make gravy, I heard it's ilegal to have a roast without gravy, just like not stoping at the bakery, you will only need a few tablespoons of flour and water and your good to go, thank me later, stay safe out there.

To cut the chicken ( carving) start with the drumsticks then the upper extremities then the breast parts down the sternum following the ribs out to the sides as one whole piece, left and right. That should just about do it for camping and a hungry guy. Course you could attack it with your bare hands, dipping it apart in cave man style. Better than using plastic!!! Knives and forks. If you can take that enormous shovel along with you than a couple of stainless steel cutlery items could tag along as well. Apropos shovel..why didn't you make your coal hole close to the fire? Cheers.

Don’t forget to check if the giblets are in their own little plastic bag inside the chicken that happens quite a bit on prepackaged whole chicken. Also put a bed of coals down in the hole for the pot to sit on then finish putting the coals around the pot and on top. And if you have to leave for a little bit cover it with some green palm fronds to hold the heat in
