I returned for this tutorial after a couple of months (after liking, subbing and bookmarking, of course) and I just have to say: this is by far the best in the world of grunge text. Hands down, the genius of it just blows my mind. A true pros tool: reversibility and adjustability... it's all there! Thank you so much for this gem, Sir!

Excellent as always, Grady. A couple of thoughts- It might be worth it to add a slight deboss effect to better emulate block printing results. Also, consider having the paper texture “smoother” within the type to reflect the force of the press block on the paper.

Hi Brady, thank you for an excellent tutorial. Can you possibly explain how the Blend Mode change at 3.53 creates a rough edge around the outside of the letters? I cannot seem to get this despite following along exactly. Many thanks, S.

Great tutorials! I only have one little tip for you, a high pass / low cut filter for your sound... or a pop filter for your mic (weird thing on an SM7B mic if that's wha it is, but anyway). It's booming on every "p" and "f" when I listen on my studio monitors, but it sounds great on a laptop. I guess it's some kind of a "voice over preset". Anyway, excellent photoshop stuff!

What of the resolution of a texture to the image/font size? What's a rule of thumb for various outputs? I struggled with this, and I suspect it is because I created a smaller image to start, with a slimmer font. It didn't seem to retain a black black or have sufficient edge grunge, plus it seemed just a tad too pixelated. Once my mind stops spinning I expect quite a bit of applicable insight so thanks a lot. Really nice production, but I'd like more warnings about dead ends to avoid.

With all of the layer styles he uses I think he’d get extremely annoyed with them in AE. They’re extremely limited. They’re at the state of Photoshop 6.

Thinking about it more and more. I've gotta wrap my head around how to approach it... with a Photoshop tutorial, I can quickly run through the basics along the way for people who haven't really used the program; with AE, explaining the basic principles in every tutorial would be so boring, ha. Just thinking out loud, but anyways, yes at some point!

@@ardayildiz I added a Color Overlay effect to the folder, with a Screen blending mode and the Opacity set to about 60%, and that seems to work okay, but if I have multiple colors I want to use, then I'll have to set up a different folder for each color with the texture applied to each one.. seems like there is probably a better/smarter way

@@rachelzimmerman9045 I was going to ask the same question, how to do this effect on a coloured object? @Texturelabs Is the trick of setting up a different folder for each colour and adding a Screen blending mode to each folder the best thing to do?

I followed your steps precisely, but "Create Clipping Mask" is greyed out on the top layer, which is the texture image from the link in this video. I rewatched your video and I've done everything the same. Why do I not have the option to create a clipping mask for this layer?
@FrankietheGoose
@FrankietheGoose Жыл бұрын
Update: Once I when back and undid the step where I dragged the text layer down to the folder icon to put it and the effects into their own group, I was able to create a clipping mask. However, then I lose the effects we applied in the earlier step. Once I group the text with its effects, "Create a Clipping Mask" for the top layer, the grungy image, becomes greyed out and isn't an option.
@m0nkeychemicals

@@FrankietheGoose This is the exact same issue I have, once I drag the text into a group folder there is no way to create a clipping mask on the texture layer. Idid some deep digging and it seems this is only possible with versions after CS6. I have resisted going subscription because I paid a lot of money for CS5 and it does everything I need (except this...) I assume your version is pre CS6 too? Very frustrating

Super easy? Maybe for the PS intermediate skill set, but definitely not for beginners brand new to PS. You moved way too fast. Ten seconds in and I was totally lost. I saw the title, "Super Easy" and mistakenly assumed it would be a good lesson for a novice PS'er. Of course, that's my fault as I am a complete newbie and instantly got overwhelmed. I am still going to subscribe to your channel as I hope to see if you have a beginner crash course - one that moves a little slower for a newcomer entering into this confusing intricate world of PS blindfolded. I am excited to come back to this video in a few months just to see if I can keep up!
