Shapes. Everything is shapes. That's why you need to understand shapes so much as part of the foundation of your art. Your eyes should freaking bleed from the amount of cubes, spheres, and cylinders that you see on a weekly basis

I used love drawing and I used to draw all the time when I was younger. But I got pregnant with my son when I was 17 and had him when I was 18, and then I went through a lot of crazy things (not because of my son!) so I didn't draw for 10 years. And then I had my daughter when I was 28 and I didn't draw for another 4-5 years. Then one day I was like, I feel like drawing! So I got some paper and a pencil and tried drawing and it was absolutely terrible! I guess that's where 14-15 years of no practice gets ya! I really needed a creative outlet though.... and then I discovered the adult coloring community and it was perfect for me! It gives me a creative outlet and a hobby, and I don't have to draw! Although I would love to draw, it's too frustrating for me since I didn't practice for so long and lost a lot of my skills. My favorite adult coloring books are the Mythographic coloring book series, especially the ones by Joseph Catimbang! I have every Mythographic book that has been released so far and I have the next 3 new releases already pre-ordered on Amazon 😆 But watching your videos makes me wanna start practicing drawing because I would love to be able to make my own coloring books!

not to be rude but you really could've just said that you went through a lot and couldn't draw until now - btw good luck with your art and children!

The proportion aspect is actually super useful!! But for this to be really effective you really need references of what those body parts will look like at these angles, like drawing shoulders from a top down angle can be really confusing without reference, like I certainly can't think of how that looks off the top of my head LMAO biggest tip for angles of the shoulders is to be precise with where the collarbone lands, that is an easy to let people know where you're looking from without too much detail
@Unhingeddirtdog Жыл бұрын
Oo this is nice! I've been splitting my character's body parts into shapes and then kinda putting them on top of eachother to get perspective, but this seems much easier, will try this!!!

this method only works for very simple poses. i recommend practicing perspective using various references and observing how the body looks instead of breaking it down to oversimplified shapes as it usually makes the drawings/characters look stiff. (my opinion)

Hey, it really works! This stabilizes the imaginary rotation of the whole character really well! When I imagined the character standing in the cylinder stuck to the ground perpendicularily, it stabilized the imaginary character even better in relation to the ground. Tip highly appreciated ^^
