We found a site that had not been detected before in the mountains of New Hampshire while exploring. We followed some rock walls until we spotted a pike of stacked rocks and thinking it may be a fallen chimney stack we turned on the metal detectors. With seconds we heard nail iron in the ground and new there was a good chance this was a long gone deserted home site. Before long we were in fact digging up relics and artifacts from the 1700s like buttons, spoons, knives buckles and pottery. No doubt we were dealing with a colonial site and it had not been found before us because of the signals in the ground. No cellar hole took the trained eye to spot this one. Well the high point of the day was the pewter USA continental army button dug up. An amazing piece of history from George Washingtons army and exciting to know that a veteran of the American revolution forged this small homesite out of the hills.
