Review of the QNAP TVS-672XT NAS / DAS which is super fast for video editing through the Thunderbolt 3 and 10 GbE port along with RAID redundancy. Filled with Seagate Ironwolf Pro hard drives and cache acceleration with Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 SSDs, this 84 GB Network Attached Storage and Direct Attached Storage system allows me to directly edit using FCPX on my MacBook Pro without having to be limited to the internal SSD. This is a great way to organize your footage and videos.

Great review. Coming from an I.T. background of many years, having a UPS connected to your NAS is something you should always do. No other KZbinr I have watched has mentioned this. Well done.

@@goose023 APC is probably the most solid UPS maker too. They've been around for decades. When looking at a UPS, check how much wattage it can handle for a given time and what you'll be plugging into it. Each device draws a certain amount of watts. Add it up and compare what the UPS can do.

It seems a beast of a set up but it's just so so so expensive and when you say it will do you only 3/5 years - at $5000 total that would be like $100 a month which is quite an overhead!!! Thanks for the great in depth review. Has helped me in my ongoing search for how to edit multiple projects at the same time without having a load of different external disks on the go.

When you work with clients and crucial data that can't be lost, it's almost a necessity when you're really busy. For years I've tried many different drives and internal configs/arrays via windows; a NAS is an important tool. Also, get the step down versions of those Iron Wolfs w/ less capacity and you'll save some coin. I got an 8-Bay with 64TBs and 2 NVMe SSDs for the same price. Get his 6 bay config w/ less capacity and you should save a lot, or even consider a 4 bay NAS in RAID 5; should be good for most needs.

I keep landing on your page since it’s the same set up I have except I have WD Red drives coming. My question, my setup is in my bedroom. How noisy are the 7400rpm drives? Doesn’t seem they make 14tb at lower speeds and the ones available are almost double the price at this point… any other draw backs to the higher RPM that you’ve noticed? Thanks! Nice concise and well made video.

@@obliviox Hey, I actually bought it. It was sooo loud. It was in my bedroom, I actually moved my entire office setup into another room and still felt the hard drives were distracting. They are now next to my router a few rooms away. I can still hear it a bit, but not as bad. If noise is an issue, it's a lot louder than my 5400's which is in my smaller NAS. Also, transferring 3 tb through wifi is three days and lightning cable like 45 minutes - something good to consider.

To add on, I couldn't sleep with them on. I changed the setting so they are off over night to help with save costs and unnecessary time they are running and just turn them on when I want to use them.

I was at first very happy with mine but after ransomware and now a dead motherboard I can't say I would ever recommend QNAP. I stumbled across your review while looking for a solution to recover ALL of my files from my dead QNAP... if you have any suggestions I would be very thankful! Cheers

My opinion is based on my couple of years experience on QNAP. Don't buy it. Buy something more stable. QNAP software is crap and will give you outages and outages over and over again. For example recent firmware update done by system and after firmware update, can't login. Means can't access anything because of encrypted storage. QNAP responded after 2 days and their instructions didn't fix the issue still. No response for last 24 hours and I'm still waiting after 4 days of complete outage. Hoping that eventually at least it gets fixed without any data loss. It has been a disaster situation so far. Time I have spent on QNAP issues working with them again and again every now and then is really just too much too handle when I have already too much work going on.

whats more stable?
@GH-bz2nw
@GH-bz2nw Жыл бұрын
@@RayValdezPhotography QNAP is alright and stable if we just use basic modules. The moment we venture into their add-on apps or take it beyond normal NAS usage then things may become unstable drastically. Problem is something to do with release of new ideas implemented with poor quality. Their base package has got stability through the test of time. So that should work fine. Anything new and we need to be a bit careful.

Do not install macOS Big Sur 11.3 as the Thunderbolt Bridge Driver is broken in the released operating System. This was an issue first detected in early beta releases and was temporarily fixed in one the later releases. But for Some reason the bug crept back in on the final release.
