Oooh you "Tuckerized" it! 😂👍 Agree, it is a pretty pattern. I wouldn't worry about reverse pinwheels, it matches our contrary winds here! LOL! Good idea for a scrap buster too. Thank you.xx

Fabulous tutorial Maureen, you explain the math in a way I can understand & provide ways to save time. The quilt looks great which cannot be said for all scrappy quilts!

Great scrap quilt. Loved seeing your process in designing this. Also, agree about using Deb Tucker rulers/methods to make easier to construct blocks. They'll also be more accurate. Tks again.

Great tutorial. I have never thought to look at the pattern closer to see what can be made easier. I agree, fewer seams the better.

Hi Maureen. Thanks SO much for the clever scrap quilt idea! I make quilts for Hospice and your design is perfect--quick for me so more can be made to bring comfort to those who need it. You are a wonderful presenter. (I hope you forgive me for loving crumb quilting!!!) All the best to you from Canada.

I'm totally with you on this one- who needs all those seams? I think that instructions like the original version are for people that are new to quilting.

You're right that quilt was a lot of work. I finished it! It was a laundry list of things that could go wrong and did. It's done and folded up for my cousin's daughter's graduation. It's cuddly, I put the thick and fluffy minky on the back. I'm glad it's done and threw that pattern away. It was way too fiddly for me. On the block B, I sewed them in 4 patches, then put 4 of those together just twisting them.

Thank you once again Maureen for instructions on making it easier! When I saw Rob’s pattern on your board I knew you were about to “Tuckerize” it😂😂😂 I really enjoy Rob’s videos and the fact that he always encourages listeners to do things the way we are comfortable with, by making it easier. He’s very encouraging, as you are! Thank you again💕🧵

I agree to reevaluate a pattern. If I needed to practice HST the first example would be fine but I like to challenge myself. If I know the size of a component in a block I will try it differently. I do an example as written ( one block goes in an orphan block box sorted by color or theme) You crappy quilt today would be great to use up those fabrics we do not love so much anymore. Or fat quarters that you just did not use for whatever reason(I have at least 1 in every collection I just do not use. Try to cut it into smaller pieces for scrap quilts but sometimes I like it better later) That you for your opinion.

While I totally agree with you I offer another suggestion when it comes to Mystery Quilts. I participated in the Mystery Quilt (my first) and ended up hating the second block. I am NOT a pinwheel person. I was so glad I had so many HSTs. I took some from Block A to make a better Block B and then added some from Block B to A. I'm making a completely different square. Quilt saved. I will finish now. I would not have made it with the pinwheels. Also just a note that it was Stitchin Heaven's Mystery Quilt. Rob didn't design it.

I knew he didn't design it. He did the demo though on the video. I should have been more clear.

I love your opinions! The only issue with this one is that the middle of your block A has the QST’s oriented incorrectly. The pattern makes a windmill, not a pinwheel in a square. The rest is a 1000% better than the pattern. Thank you for educating us!!!

I often wonder why designers use all HST'S instead of flying geese using the 4 At A time method. To me the 4AATM is more effective, saves fabric and can be trimmed to the exact size.

It can be further simplified by making 4-at-a-time HSTs and flying geese. I just watched Rob Appel tutorial on saw tooth star making individual flying geese; again he could have made it faster, easier and no waste by doing 4-at-a-time.

As another said, that pattern - while very cute - is way too fiddly for me. I hate those little triangles, and any time I can avoid sewing triangles together, I do it another way. I like your sensible solution! Also - another great scrap pattern!
