It's a quaint movie by today's standards, but it's a quintessential piece of movie history for many reasons, including Christopher Reeve's iconic performance.

The Russian doctor was a character Williams played in a movie called Nine Months with Hugh Grant and Julianne Moore. When he went to see Chris he was in full costume and character. For the first time since his accident Chris smiled broadly and said "You son of a b*tch!" Robin Williams saved Christopher Reeve's life that day. I have no doubt about that.

@@RedKingdom28 Oh you really should. That movie paved the way for every superhero film since it's release, all the way to the current DCEU and MCU. In my opinion, Christopher Reeve is easily the best live action Superman, ever. That isn't to take away from any other actor in the role. I have liked most of them and thought others have done a great job. However, everyone else seems like they are playing Superman, while Christopher Reeve was Superman. He was just that rare level of perfect casting for a fictional role. Like Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, or Ryan Reynolds as DeadPool-except I would say that Christopher was, if anything, even more superb casting for his role. Anyhow, enough of my gushing, but I really do encourage to watch it. The movie is really good too and was phenomenal for the time it was released (some of the effects still hold up, while a few are laughably bad now, but doesn't detract from the film on the whole). Christopher elevates the whole film and he even shines in the role in the third and fourth movies in the series (which were awful films, but still worth watching just for Christopher Reeve).

@@RedKingdom28 It was the first time ever that a superhero mlvie was given a big budget and taken seriously. Those first two Superman movies are the grandaddy of every superhero movie that followed. You must see it. Remember that it was made in the 1970s, before CGI, so please forgive some of the special effects and more cornball elements. It’s not dark in any way.

Every once and awhile I go back and watch the scene where Clark is in Lois' apartment and he takes off his glasses. Then, just through body language, becomes Superman. There are no cuts or camera moves. It's all on Reeve to pull this off with acting alone and he nails it.

@TheJacobG That's because "Clark Kent" wasn't just at theoretical to him. It wasn't just, "I'm gonna try to be a little different to differentiate the two." No, he actually tested "Clark Kent" in real life, though unintentional. I remember a story he told where they had been shooting Clark Kent stuff and then broke for lunch. On a whim, Chris decided not to change out of his costume, probably because he was, basically, just wearing a suit and glasses and he was feeling a bit lazy. So he just grabbed his Clark Kent hat and went out the door. He walked down the street to the local diner for lunch. Now keep in mind that everyone in this city knew they were filming Superman down the street and they also knew that Christopher Reeve was playing Superman. So he walked in to this diner, ordered his lunch, presumably paid with cash, and left. Not a single person in that diner had any idea it was him. I also have to assume he was acting through his lunch, still adopting his "Clark Kent" mannerisms and such. It was a brilliant spur-of-the-moment test, really: "Can something as simple donning a pair of glasses and subtly changing how you physically present yourself actually hide your true identity?" The answer is a big fat YES. So yeah, if anyone doubts that "Clark Kent" works as a disguise, there you go. Superman, himself, used it in real life and it worked.

back in 2014 i lost feeling to my legs due to spinal compression and had to be rushed in for emergency surgery, i was told there was a big chance i'd never walk again and after i woke up from surgery i knew i wouldn't feel my legs so it didn't trip me out too much, sure i shed a tear and was sad but i was braced beforehand. after a few weeks in physical therapy in the rehab unit at the hospital i was about to get kicked out of there because of no signs of me getting better but a few days later out of nowhere i was able to start swinging my legs up onto the exercise table and from there i was wiggling my toes a few days later then they decided to keep me. after being released from the hospital a few months later i went from going to physical therapy as outpatient in a wheelchair then went on to walker and now onto a cane where i did my first trip after relearning to walk again and walked through disneyland. my surgeon told me i'm a miracle, i was like hell no i just wanted out of the hospital with something to show from it. and in no way would i compare myself to christopher reeve

It was beyond rough for Reeve, initially he became suicidal of his condition and was extremely depressed. On top of that, he was required to undergo a dangerous procedure surgery in attempt to realign his skull with his severed spine so that he wouldn’t die of complications. The success of the surgery was at a jaw dropping 50%. Life or death. Suddenly, a doctor came rushing in decked out in yellow scrubs and a thick Russian accent telling Christopher to get ready for his rectal examination. That “doctor” was none other than his former roommate, Robin Williams. According to Dana Reeve, she said it was the first time she saw her husband smiled and laughed since the accident.

I'm only 23, so I wasn't around to see him in his heyday, and he unfortunately died before I even turned 3. But I can say without a doubt that Christopher Reeve is Superman to me. I would always go to my grandma's house every Sunday, and I distinctly remember seeing that there was a Superman movie marathon on TV. I got to watch all 4 movies in one sitting, and I will never forget that experience. I can't imagine what it was like to see those in theaters. I have a feeling this movie will be like Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain was to me, a movie that will make me bawl my eyes out, but something I will always remember and look back on fondly.

I watched this trailer for the first time yesterday and REALLY had to hold the tears back! Chris was MY Superman, growing up. I rewatched his movies, especially the first three, so many times. It was heartbreaking when he first got paralysed and then died years later. This trailer’s a masterpiece, never mind the actual movie. Love that epic remake of the Krypton theme and hope it gets released. I knew about the special relationship between Chris and Robin Williams, as Robin had spoken of it in interviews many times fondly. Of course, his own passing makes this double-raw. I’ll be sure to watch this but better prepare LOTS of tissues.

This man was my hero as a child, it's because of him that I love this character, it's because of him that I remember wearing a red towel and pretending I was him. This documentary will be a whirlwind of emotions and knowing that he was also a great friend of one of the people who also impacted my childhood (RW) really makes me emotional! He named the planet on the show. The writers said specifically once they knew they could get him they wanted Tom’s Clark to hear the name Krypton for the first time from Chris. It was designed as a pass the torch moment. Apparently Chis did watch and like the show

The importance of Christopher Reeve for the character of Superman is so great, since thanks to the Man of Steel he once again gained importance in the world of comics, and he was the mold to follow for the rest of Live Action as well as for the subsequent comics that They did after 1978, and by his actions in real life he practically had to convince people that he was not the Man of Steel but an ordinary and real person and the character of Superman is what he is thanks to Christopher Reeve. Years will pass and Christopher Reeves always was, is and will be the DEFINITIVE SUPERMAN.!

Reeve's widow, Dana Reeve, headed the Christopher Reeve Foundation after his death. Although a non-smoker, she was diagnosed with lung cancer on August 9, 2005. She died at age 44 on March 6, 2006..😢
