Super Mario Bros. 3 was a return to form and then some after the plumber's dreamy previous offbeat adventure. I enjoyed that one, but this 1990 release is one of the best the NES has to offer. Considering the upgrades in gameplay, looks, and level design, I bet a lot of people out there also share that opinion. Now then, this Mushroom World is our stage, so let's start with our opening act!
Grass Land, the only world with one name, is where Mario's journey begins. It won't take long for us to fly high with one awesome power-up and get to stomping out a whole new cast of foes, whether it be the mooks, a miniboss, or one of Bowser's seven deadly sinners that await us at the end of these areas. There's plenty of secrets abound along the way, so grab a seat. It's showtime!

Stage 1 is a great example of good game design - the first enemy is easy to defeat, and right after that you have intriguing blocks that make the player excited, and then the pipe is the first obstacle, followed by a chance to use a Koopa shell on several enemies in a row, and then finally a runway for Mario that allows him to fly high up in the sky and grab a 1-Up. It's basically a tutorial that at the same time works as an actual stage.

my favorite game of the classics, My child hood experiences of the game was with the GBA remake. it was the first Mario game I ever got. I remember getting it for my 11th Birthday. I've replayed it lots of times.

Ah, Super Mario Bros. 3. I'll be honest, I've only ever played the Super Mario Advance 4 version of this game, but it's easily one of my favorite 2D Mario games, possibly my absolute favorite. I never did understand what exactly caused the Coin Ship to spawn until now. I only ever got it to appear about three times in different playthroughs pretty much by accident, and I have to admit that one of those times, I got killed by the Boomerang Bros at the end.

Did you not know you can get a warp whistle in 1-3 after bending down on the white block? You run behind the screen towards the end. It takes you to a Toads house where you get the first whistle.

I joked about it here but showed off the whistles along with multiplayer in a bonus vid later in the series. Case in point, the 1-3 one isn't the only whistle I intentionally skipped in this video!

6:52 im 5 years late but yes, there is a hidden hut with a warp flute when you are in the background, you need to run quickly and go behind that weird black background at the ending of the level,.

Never got the chance to beat this game, because i'm not OLD (aka born in the year of 1988,) but with these videos, I got through it. May I add that this really helped with the weird puzzle levels (that are bad and i HATE THEM SO MUCH AGH)

If you do that background trip then tun, you go to level 2 3 or 4. Or warp zone

There is a warp wistle room on top of the fort you can only fly there. It,s also a easy way to complete the fort

For the boat, your coin count has to be a multiple of eleven. 55 in this case. My score at the end of the level ends with a 5 in the tens digit (16250, so the second number from the right). When those three numbers match, the boat will replace a map enemy in Worlds 1, 3, 5, and 6. Doesn't work on the other maps. As for the White Mushroom House, that comes down to collecting coins in a specific level. It's 1-4 in Grass Land where you have to get 44 coins. I put down which levels and the total number of coins you need to get in the level to have the houses appear throughout the playthrough. Long explanations, but I hope they help.

What kind of visual glitches? It could just be hardware limitations since SMB3 was pushing things to what was thought to be the limit back in the day.

Oh, the eight pixels on the left side of the screen thing is normal. CRT televisions would cut those off back in the day, but side-scrollers were the most affected genre because of how the hardware worked.
