Super Mario Bros. 3 (4): World 4 - Giant Land / Big Island

"A Giant Performance"
For a world that gives enemies and blocks a supersized look, it sure doesn't feel all that big! That's because that World 4 is the second shortest place in the game with just one extra fort in it than Grass Land had.
Now there are some trouble spots, like the Sledge Bros. in our third stage, but the majority of today's travels are really no big deal even when they're trying to be. Case in point, this is the only episode I recorded in one shot with no recording breaks. Finally, I'll end with saying Iggy is my personal favorite of the Koopalings. Why? Almost always like his fights in the games he's in... This first one is not indicative of that. Oops.

this world make me realize that just because they are big they aren't difficult. the bigger they get, the easier to tackle. this is one of my most favourite worlds

For years, I always thought you only had a limit of seven items on the overworld. Even when I got Super Mario Advance 4 (which shows you all four rows at once when you bring your inventory up), it still took me a while to realize that the original game allowed you to have 28 items as well.

I'm surprised you didn't show off that red Mushroom House right near the beginning of the map. If you use a Hammer to break the rock blocking it, you can get a guaranteed Tanooki Suit. One thing I find odd about 4-4 is that I've had a number of times where the Lakitu simply wouldn't spawn, or would disappear from existence if I stayed near the bottom of the water. I wonder if that only happens in the GBA version?

My problem was that I had already used the Hammers and didn't even think about the house since I always skip it because of that. I know there's another guarantee get from another house in W6 at least. Still, It's good to see people bring up what I don't or can't in these vids, so thanks. The small size of the levels makes it a tough challenge to fit in what I want to with text even though the episodes themselves are 20-30 minutes long. As for the GBA version's differences, I actually wouldn't know aside from knowing about the e-Reader stages. I might be a Nintendo dude, but I skipped playing the Mario Advance games even though we own all four of them!

Whenever me and my brother got those hammers, we had to choose between the 3 houses in Water Land, and then this one would be chosen (usually by me lol)

What is the anchor really supposed to do to Mario?

I mention it in the next vid of the series, but the airships at the end of worlds will move around on the map if you lose on them. The anchor keeps them in place.

***** I replaced it with this one :P So, I assume it's Virtual Console or something? That's the only official emulator I can think of that runs this game. If so, what console?

Ah, the old one was a good comment! And yes, it's Virtual Console this time around, but not upscaled or in widescreen like how TheRunawayGuys did it. Helps keep the file sizes down. 360p for NES and handheld stuff, 480p for any console past that unless the vids look too grainy (Super Mario Kart had this issue for me, so there's an HD option), and then HD resolutions for HD systems and possibly the Wii.
