The e-reader levels were basically New Super Mario Bros. for the GBA BEFORE New Super Mario Bros. DS ! Kinda like a hidden SMA 5 or something. So glad that the entirety of the levels got released over here in the US on this ROM since we only got about 12 out of the 38 levels

Here's an excuse to play Super Mario World again. There's two Variants of the American version. One with a light blue label, and one with a dark blue label. The light blue label version has Super Mario World spelled out in two lines instead of one line on the dark blue label. Mario and Yoshi are smaller on the light blue label, and the end label is left-alligned on the light blue version while centered on the dark blue version. The light blue version fixes some bugs though, so it's not good for speedruns.

in gba mario 3 you can go back and beat the levels you skipped after you beat the game. then when you've beaten every level you unlock full level select where all levels are open to play in all worlds

Awesome vid as always 👍 By the way Mike, did you know that the GBA Super Mario Bros 3 was rereleased on the Wii U virtual console with all the E reader levels already unlocked including some levels that were only available in Japan? I think that was a pretty cool thing that Nintendo did since the E reader was a fail add on and trying to find a E reader plus those cards are really hard to find and also very expensive nowadays.

Some of these levels are like the Mario maker levels. More creative and a little bit more difficiult. Nintendo should come up with their own "dlc" for older titles if remade for the switch.

there is a hack where you can use the SMW items (well, all of the "new" items from world E) in the main game, but there isn't any hacks that add the "Switch Palace" cards to the main game. if i recall there were only three. one was it added vegetables randomly through the normal stages, two was one that made fireballs turn enemies into coins (which was a way to chees out the ghost toad houses from the levels where you have to get every coin) and i forgot what the 3rd is. researched: there were only 2 in america, but a buttload of them in Japan. the only interesting one was a "hard mode" card also, i wonder what the reward is for getting all the coins in that tank level.. researched: LAME get all 110 coins gets you a 3-Up. way easier to farm lives by doing classic 1-1 over and over and getting the 5-up star card

The e-reader levels, in my opinion, are the only thing that makes this version of Mario 3 worth it. Still don't know why Nintendo didn't make "super Mario advance" a unique Mario series for the GBA. But I did enjoy watching you play through all the levels!

they shoulda just made a "Super Mario All-Stars Advance" AND a new platform series, (but not the "New" SMB series) but Nintendo could milk the classics and spend ZERO effort and get 4x the profit by splitting them up. unfortunately. i just wish SMB Deluxe had been brought out as a super collection of SMB1/2J screen crunch kills the GBC port, but it's got a lot of neat additions.

playing mario advance 4, but mario 3 on gba, not the wii u version, its gba everdrive, on an sd card, in a gamecube, with gba everdrive, playing mario 3, but its extra levels, not original levels. Swiped from an e-reader, but not that because its a later romhack of that. But now captured via a gamecube, connected with component cables, that go to a retro tink 5k, but the component cables are the official gamecube ones, that are rare and the signal goes into an elgato, which goes to the pc, into the capture card, then into a streaming program, which then goes to twitch on the internet, but you are not watching that, you are watching a vod of that, which was posted later.

These levels are a neat bonus, but I feel that they go too overboard with the puzzle-like level design that it feels more like a Mario Maker 2 level than something from Mario 3. Sure, there was some puzzle elements to Mario 3 at times, but it was made in a way that it flowed nicely with the level design, rather than something that is filled with backtracking and elements that just don't fit with the fun simplicity that the original had.

Going to be the "Uh Acshually," guy here. It is referred to as the tanooki tail in the Japanese version. Tanookis are usually wearing leafs tied to their head as a hat, which is why the leaf in the game transforms Mario and gives him a tanooki tail. I can't explain why it lets him fly though.

You know why this game seems to lifeless compared to regular mario 3? It lacks all ths sprties of backround elements and foreground elements. The hills, the bushes etc. They put everything in the far background which makes it look desolate like a huge open and dead area. Almost Post apocalytpic.
