See if you can put a flagpole at the end of 8-4 instead of an axe. The original game would have programmed an 8-5 which didn't exist and would be garbled code.

In a way, it's a more fleshed out "debug" mode from classic sonic games where you could turn sonic into level assets and place them in the zones as you see fit.

I seen rom hackers mention this before. every flag increases the level by 1 so if there was a 1-5 a flag pole would bring you to 1-5 and every ae brings the world up so 1-1 axe would go to 2-1

I think the reason it breaks a lot is because smb isn't a tiled game it loads the level in parts that are re used for different levels which save a ton of space. when you scroll the game does a check to find kinda where u r but when ya edit the tiles the game freaks out because it doesnt expect those tiles to be there
