4:53 HAS BEEN ACHIEVED!!! There are a few quirks about this rom hack that make it very unique to run: You need a different setup other than sockfolder FPG in 1-1 to save the framerule, you can go directly in the World 4 pipe without having to load the warpzone, 4-2 needs 376 IGT pipe entry to save the framerule, BBG is more difficult and needs to be done differently due to different enemy bounce heights, 8-3 FPG can be done with 243 IGT because fireworks work the same way it does in SMB2J, and 8-4 needs to be played faster than normal due to extra loading frames between rooms. I would probably compare the difficulty of this time to a 4:55.2xx in SMB1 Any%. Either way, I am very proud of this time! Also, the reason why I played this on console is because I am currently warming up for PACE Summer 2024 and getting the feel of controller again.

Nah, clickbait would be leaving out definitive warps and saying SMB in 4:53, which we know is impossible to do. The TAS has been at the same point for many years for vanilla SMB and I doubt TASers can find any timesave there.

@@NoiceGood Rather than clickbait, it seems to just follow his typical style of thumbnails. He usually just puts the time he got and an image of the game with some tension in it, often involving jumping towards Bowser with hammers being thrown his way like in this thumbnail.

This hack is interesting since the time save compared to OG smb seems to come from the minus world being patched and no fireworks in 8-3 (also 4-2 wrong warp still works). are these differences because of the smb2j engine or are these differences exclusive to this hack in particular?

So far, my guess is that it used a SMB2J Lost Levels rom, and copied the SMB1 levels into it, as close as possible. Enemies & physics are very slightly different in SMB2J, so if I'm right, that explains why you need different setups here to follow the normal SMB1 route, and would explain what Niftski said about the fireworks behaving like SMB2J.

Yes, but TAS-only, with a 4:52.982. World 8-2 cannot get KosmicZ due to Mario gaining more altitude bouncing off an enemy, so you need to wait for the Bullet Bill to fly longer before stomping on it.
