Super Mario Bros Wonder Did The IMPOSSIBLE... | Review/Impressions

You may have noticed that we're arriving late with this review. Well, that's because I never really planned to pick this one up. If my Sonic Superstars review wasn't enough evidence, 2D platforming games were never my cup of tea. They're not bad, but I mesh better with narrative driven or role playing games. With the undeniable reviews for Super Mario Bros Wonder, I had to see what all the buzz was about. Did it manage to convert me?

My daughter and I were playing it right as you put this out. Imo this game is so good. Usually with Mario games I play some and turn it off. But with this one, I want to keep playing. This game is so creative it's not possible to put into words. The look on my little ones face is priceless with some of the Wonder Flowers and that is money well spent right there. I highly recommend it. 😊

Those items you're referring to where your interaction with the stages change are not wonder seeds. They are actually called Wonder Flowers that reward you with a wonder seed when you have successfully completed those stage alterations.

One thing not mentioned here is the ONLINE COMPONENT of *_Wonder!_* The system of Shades, Ghosts and Standees is absolutely *_fantastic_* and I've encountered several "Sunbro types" who just hang out in the more-difficult stages and help players with items and revives!

Love your work Matty but I think a retrospective of 2D Mario Games would do some good for this channel. Not to say you didnt give this game any respect, and you gave valid caveats based on your gaming history. But glossing over key details and missing gameplay elements (and not using the run button in gameplay) makes it obvious you arent too familiar with the 2D franchise or bull rushed through for the sake of a review. Which is totally fine, it just didnt feel like you gave the game the respect it deserved like you do other titles ive watched your reviews on. There is a reason a lot of us hold 2d & 3d mario in high regards and its not just nostalgia. I just think you'd find you would appreciate it a lot more if you dived a little bit deeper. Keep up the great work!

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is easily my Game of the Year. I'll admit I'm biased, I love 2D, and Mario 2D platformers in particular, but I do think it's a legit awesome game and the true sequel to Super Mario World that I waited for since way back in the early 90s.

It definitely is the best 2d Mario since World. There are a lot of intentional callbacks too it too. Mario World's charm still puts it at the top for me but Wonder is much better than the soulless NSMB titles.

@@sd5919 Oh yeah, I liked the NSMB titles, I'll admit it, especially NSMB Wii, but Wonder is on a much higher level. I'd still have World at the top, too, but Wonder is competing with SMB 3 to be a close second.

Wow, I'm surprised that a channel all about old school gaming (hence "Retro" Rebound) would have a host that isn't that into platformers, at least the 2D variety. It's not what I would expect. I also didn't expect you to enjoy Sonic Superstars more than Mario Wonder. Most generally agree that the new Mario is (at least) a tad bit better than the new Sonic. (Psst. Also, where are you in One Piece? I'm catching up with the series too and I wanna know where you are since your last One Piece game video.)

I'm sorry but respectfully I disagree Matty with what you said about 3D Mario. To each their own though and don't get me wrong Matty. Yes 3D is the natural evolution in gaming in general, BUT having said that, in my opinion there are just some franchises that should be left untouched. Mario included. Yes Odyssey was cool and yes I do have Odyssey on my Switch, but Mario always has been a 2D platformer, side-scroller. And to me, that's the way it should remain.

@bart3736 I've been playing Mario since was kid, born in 1989, and after super mario sunshine the 3d marios got, not good at all, new super mario bros was okay, didn't play after that, mostly didn't have chance, mario galaxy s had potential, but was ruined by motion controls, snd odyssey, well just was more of the same galaxy with kess motion controls, but still involved them, wich to me takes away from the over all experience of the game, wonder, playing it feeks like playing older mario again , wich is whatvthe franchise needs

I am by no means, no stretch of the imagination, a real Nintendo "fan." (I *respect* Nintendo. But I am not a "fan.") Hell, the three games that got me to get a Nintendo Switch, the first Nintendo console I have owned since the NEW, was Bayonetta 2, Bayonetta 3, and Astral Chain - three *PlatinumGames* games. Not Nintendo games. I'm not a Mario fan, either. I *respect* Mario games, of course. But aside from Mario Odyssey, which I got simply because I had a Switch and it was on sale for 34 bucks, so why not? Aside from that game, I haven't found a Mario worth my time since Super Mario 64. (And before that, in order, Super Mario World, 3, 2, and 1.) Mario just does not appeal to adult me. All that heing said... they managed to make a Mario game that is appealing to even *ME.* And honestly? That is impressive as hell. While it isn't a "day one game" for me or anything, I will definitely be picking up this game in the future at some point; when it goes on a sale or something. 👍🏾

Game might be very good but I'm sceptical. Get the impression from the reviews that the game is extravagant to meet the name wonder. But do I really care to play as an elephant in a mario game? Do I care for water to be upside down? Do i really need so much colours especially if looking to play a game to relax.Mario magic was always the parcour and acrobatics element. Not a Disney game. But let's see, guess I'll buy it with all these great reviews.

Am I the only one that thinks this game is a solid 8/10? 😂 it’s just way too easy and past the halfway point, the novelty of the wonder seeds wore off completely. I was so over it every time it came up. And the bosses were meh. I thought it was really fun still but not one of the best rated games of all time good… I just don’t get it

And that's Ok, just for you rate as a 8/10 is a great qualifier of the product, for me this is one of the best Mario games of all time, even better than Galaxy. I love doing challeges in this game and keep repeating the levels.
