Alexander Chilton that may be true, but to be honest: The game doesn't get to me. Watched like 6 hours of gameplay, and played it for some hours with a friend, to confirm if I should or should not buy a Switch alongside the game. And I have to say: I ended up not buying either. It's all cool, if others enjoy the game, and I also wouldn't say I hated it while playing. But just not hating it doesn't sell a game, or for that matter even a console (in this case with the possibility of an handheld) to me. I bought the Wii U for Mario 3D World, and I have no regrets about that purchase. 3D World is more linear, can't disagree on that, but the gameplay and soundtrack just got to me. One of the biggest issues so far with Odyssee to me is the soundtrack. There are parts in the game, that just don't have any, and the parts which have just don't sound like Mario to me, if you know what I mean. And yeah, I know, that's absolutely subjective, which is why I said it's cool, if others enjoy it, but I don't. Another thing that put me really off was that T-Rex. Why isn't it just Yoshi, and why is it so clunky? That being said: Enjoy the game as much as you can, I don't mean to make it look bad for everyone, I just share my views, have fun!

Odyssey has some amazing songs/worlds down the line, so I think you are missing out, but of cause it is all subjective.

So.. yeah, 3D World settled the purchase, the other games ontop of an Amiibo were pretty much a bonus

There are only like, 4 flaws with this game 1: Mario feels a bit slower, good to control just doesn't feel as fast as I would like him to, and the motion controls are a bit unnecessary. (They're mostly optional though.) 2: There are way to many moons, for worlds that aren't 100% fleshed out. (If they cut off like, 200 moons for a more fleshed out, and slightly more challenging experience, then it would be a lot better IMO. Like expanding on the Cloud, and Ruined kingdom to make the absurd amount of moons justified. Its only going to bother a few people though.) 3: The music is really good, but there are parts where its cut off, and for some strange reason, and it stays like that. I get it on maybe the first mission for atmosphere, but it kind of sucks not hearing the awesome soundtrack. (The Post-game attempts to solve this problem by giving you the option to listen to any music you want, anywhere in the game, but it resets after every death or cutscene. What the heck.) 4:The Broodals are cool, but fights are repeated way to often. That's really it. And, if you think about it, only like 2 of these are actual problems, and the other 2 are very niche/nitpicky. Nearly a flawless game. If Mario 64 deserves a 10/10, then this game diserves a 25/10.

Yeah, you need 400 seeds to upgrade, but see, you don't HAVE TO upgrade it in breath of the wild. you don't even have to "do" anything but the Great Plateau and the final boss. In Mario odyssey, you have to get at least 125 moons to go to the final boss, but to get every LEVEL you must get 500 moons. A lot more than Breath of the Wilds korok seeds

When I play this game and go to a new world I think to myself “maybe this one is where the challenge comes in” and it never does. For players who want to use the joycon grip or hand held mode, most of the time the motion controls are really just optional. The only time I found myself needing to use the motion controls was when I was climbing poles because shaking the controller is the only way to climb faster. Other than that though, I played most of the main game hand held without any issues. Some of the stuff after the main game kind of requires the motion controls a bit more, like when you’ve got to roll really fast to get particular moons.

i just dont like how easy it can be at times but the atmosphere is great and unique. it feels like ideas get thrown away to fast and therefore the flat levels lack difficulty

I loved Super Mario Oddesty, it gave me Super Mario Galaxy vibes and I appreciate it, but I did have my issues with the game. 1# It was a little too short, while it had it's great moments I sadly beat in within five days while other games can take me weeks, months or even a year or two to beat. 2# The bosses are just decent, I enjoyed fighting the broodals the first few times, but then got bored of them. 3# In SMG you have to travel to new awesome Galaxies! But in Odyssey you just went back to the same places going through the same areas over and over again looking for moons with hardly anything new and challenging. The Dragon and Dinosaur was awesome though.

This video was very pleasantly surprising. I had a lot of doubts about this game, mostly because I don't play many Mario games, I spent my whole childhood playing Zelda and Sonic waaaaayyy more; so I really only know Mario because of the Smash games, party, racing, & sports. My older brother has always been the first person I ask about games, but he recently moved out and took almost all of our video game consoles (we were very spoiled); he took the Nintendo 64, the Dreamcast, the Gamecube, one of our 2 Wii's, the WiiU, and our brand spankin' new Switch!! (I had gotten really far in Breath Of The Wild too ;-; ) So I was left with a Wii, a PS3 & a PS4. Since I don't have a bunch of the consoles I grew up with anymore, now I have a bunch of games that my brother apparently considered "my" games -even though we've always shared them- and most are WiiU games which I can't play on the Wii. My mom ended up getting me my own Switch (the Splattoon 2 edition), and I currently have a *brand new* copy of Breath Of The Wild, which I'm sadly lacking in motivation to play since all my saved data is gone, alongside Mario Kart 8, and Splattoon 2. Yesterday my mom told me to make a wishlist for Christmas, so I'm trying to find games that I'd like to play for the PS3/4, the Gamecube (since its games are compatible with the Wii), the Wii, and/or the Switch, and I just now found these "Before You Buy" videos. I watched the one for RIME, Sonic Forces, Sonic Mania, and now Super Mario Odyssey. RIME seems OK, but not my first choice if I could only pick one, Sonic Forces seems pretty cool, it's more familiar to me, but the lack of personality in the characters + how some of the gameplay is side scrolling was a bit disappointing, Sonic Mania sounds pretty cool too, but I've always liked the 3D Sonic games more, with the exception of the Sonic Advance series, which I love to death. Mario Odyssey on the other hand looks fucking awesome and I think it even evicts some nostalgia which I wasn't expecting; some of the gameplay in this video reminded me of the Sonic Adventure games and Sonic Heroes, with the icing of Mario Kart + Mario Party games. Now I'm super excited to play it, and while I'm still going to explore further, this helped me a lot. Thanks!

Loved the video, congrats to Jake. Imho, Mario Odyssey felt a LOT like a super roided out Banjo Kazooie game. Just constantly running around, finding moons for things both super easy, and super complex. It reminds me of the jiggies, and the worlds in Banjo Tooie the most. The only complaints I had were mostly aesthetic. *spoiler* like the lack of Luigi ..... *end* or the fact that there aren't powerup mushrooms, at all. They could have just model swapped with the Hearts to include Red and Green mushrooms, but that's mostly just a personal want than a necessity.

The motion controls aren't that bad. You can get them to work fine on a controller, it's just that it takes a little adjusting. Practice a bit and you're set. Having said that, I can't stop smiling while I play this game. It's soooo much fun!

I absolutely love SuperMario Odyssey it has to be one of the best games I have played hands down. After all those years of wii mario games we've got the switch which gave us Mario Odyssey, for all of those people who get switches this is definitely a must get game for your first game!!!!

I know I’m about a month late but I feel this comment is absolutely necessary. The motion controls aren’t completely needed. To throw cappy downward just ground pound and immediately throw him. As you’re not going to be using the downward throw in mid-air anyway, it’s just as easy to do this instead. The upward throw isn’t even really that useful. You can’t even collect moons with cappy. Only coins, so you just need to find a way to physically touch it. Sure, the upward throw is useful when you want to jump high, but there are a little more challenging ways to jump high. Ground pound jump, throw cappy, hold Y, ground pound while in mid air, use that ground pound to ground pound jump again and jump on cappy. Really not hard to do, if you’re not that experienced of a gamer it will take getting used to but just give it a try. It’s not hard.

I bought my Switch with the Mario Odyssey bundle. I haven't played a Mario game since my Nintendo DS lite when I was younger. In the beginning it felt really difficult but now I really enjoy it! My siblings also like watching when I'm playing and the multiplayer option is a BIG plus. I really recommend this game! I have already so many hours in this game and I still haven't finished it because there is SO MUCH to find every world.

There’s 2 FLAWS for me. 1 motion controls. 2 When you capture something and you are wearing a different hat it still looks like Mario’s default hat.
