Super Mario RPG: The Seven Sages part 19

I am genuinely so curious what the implications are of this game's timeline. Its clear that this is set in a universe where Paper Mario & Super Mario RPG occurred, as well as Sunshine (given what Luigi says when they first meet Peach). This part has Geno show up and reference the events of RPG, yet characters like Jinx & Johnny don't seem to recognize Mario despite meeting him in that game. This isn't a major complaint since this is its own story, but I do find it a bit strange.
