This was so cool to have your commentary on both and how some strats have changed. It's crazy to think this run is so tight that a touch less lag or "better doors" could save a whole second over the run and that be the difference maker. Not more aggressive strats or risking drops, just doors haha. Love the commentary and would love having more commentary like this even over really old WRs and stuff.

mean this only in a positive way--dispassionately analyzing two WR pace runs when you hold said WR by 10 seconds seems like one of the biggest flexes sinch Hotarubi at this point. as someone who watches all the top SM runners but is lucky to get a 00:57 IGT, I am in awe of your dedication to this game.

Fantastic comparison video. Tons of great info from the commentary. Watching just how much the new run caught up in the norfair escape was crazy.

Hi Zoasty, This video was extremely interesting. The added commentary over the run is great. This would be perfect for your silent runs where you could show the run and commentary it after the fact just saying what you were thinking/worried about at that moment during the run. It would really be a unique take at this level of play and make people appreciate the little details way more than if they just see the moves.

Old timer here (which is weird for me to see myself that way….time has a way of getting away from you). I remember getting my first copy of SM in 96 and back then finishing the game around 2:00 IGT I thought was impressive. How you guys are doing this blows me away! I just started playing it again a few weeks ago (career, kids, etc) and trying to get back to where I was in the “old days” lol

I wish I would have known about this game back then, I know I would have been hooked on it, I bought a snes and this game a little over a year ago and I bought a bunch of rom hacks and I got good at this game but not the level we are watching here but that would take lots of time and dedication

This was really fun to watch. Love the inside commentary about the two side-by-side. I never knew you could prevent damage from MB's bomb explosion, but it looks like you took two hits from it and didn't lose any health. Is it just the initial bomb that does damage (for reference, left screen around 36:30)?
@zoasty2 жыл бұрын
the center of the bomb explosion doesn't do damage (when you have gravity suit). thanks for the kind comment

Ah the memories of being proud to get the "two special endings" in this game - 100%, and sub 3 hours IGT. Although never both on the same run! Now watching those memories get dissected and destroyed by a true master. Do you think your time running Impossible has helped with the core version of the game?
@zoasty2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't guess that it would, but it seems it hasn't hurt! I think it kept me up to practice on the core abilities while giving my mind a nice break from the vanilla grind.

So to me it looks like like the new run on the left lands the final MB3 shot before the right, but the head on the right drops to the ground before the left (as well as escape timer starting before on the right). Is this time random, or have to do with MB's position when killed?
@posmobin2 жыл бұрын
Actually position seems the same to me, but the one on the right does fire onion rings at the very end. I would have thought that would make it slower, not faster though.
@zoasty2 жыл бұрын
@@posmobin good catch! I wonder if it's essentially that she stepped back earlier in the old run? I don't know if the onion ring would facilitate that or not. MB fight in general can be very annoying, it's an underrated RNG factor.

Do you think a 40:2x is possible? Or is a 3x the limit with current strats/knowledge
@zoasty2 жыл бұрын
2x is POSSIBLE, but feels like it would take an UNGODLY good run with nerves of STEEL and ICE COLD blood running in one's veins. I actually had a run recently that was executed well enough to be a 40:2x, if you only dropped in optimal/near optimal boss RNG into it... but performing that well under the pressure of WR pace is much harder. The TLDR answer is... I'm not sure right now.

I'd imagine one-rounding a fast Phantoon would give a near 10-second save, compared to a fast-fast.
@Cloud-dk4vz2 жыл бұрын
If anyone will ever do it it will be you or Oats
@zoasty2 жыл бұрын
@@Don2006 It's 3 seconds compared to fast 2nd round, but if you can do it, it's pretty nice RNG mitigation for that run. Problem is it can also mess you up and give you a 3 rounder / reset, potentially.

I dunno why but the arm pumping always looks sus to me.. Do people use turbo for it? Or am I just tripping?
@zoasty2 жыл бұрын
No turbos. Having turbo on would be problematic, since you need to hold angle up/angle down at many points to aim the gun. IDK... not to say you are, but someone conspiratorial minded enough can always come up with some theory we are cheating. It looks like my fingers don't move during pumps, on camera, but it's just a small range of movement, which is the more efficient way to mash. I always try to show my controller and hands to make things less sus. Lately have been showing the console on cam and resetting it before and after the runs as well.
@TheBearo882 жыл бұрын
@@zoasty appreciate the response, I wasn’t implying just curious about it and yes I agree the minimal efficient movement would be hard to pick up on camera and obviously for the amount of technical inputs you do over many runs you’re not looking to mash your fingers to death every run with wild movements, so it makes sense that it wouldn’t be as noticeable. I wonder what the average arm pump input count would be over a run?
