The displacement is a great addition most tutorial people don't include. Also if you're beams are moving behind objects use alpha channels and light rays to sell the light source creating light rays.

These were simulated in a 3D software like Houdini or C4D (or possibly Blender, as I believe this is what Ryan Thompson uses). It could potentially be done in trapcode particular, or Fusion's built in particle system, but that's less likely.

Professional vfx has and will always be tedious. No doubt they would have done it and then some.

Well nowadays, there are many tool base on machine learning to mask out something really quickly. I'm editing on resolve 17 and the ai rotoscoping is insanely quick.

After Effects and other programs allow the scene to be analyzed, and after that, you can pick the data points associated with a head, or a hand, or whatever part of the scene you want something attached to. You can then attach the vfx to the data points and render it and you are good to go.

My distortion effects are way off center, they are next to the energy effect instead of on it, so its effecting my arm and not the actual energy source, and yes its set to the energy layer on an adjustment layer, help would be much appreciated!
