There are now more billionaires in India than there are anywhere else in the world, excluding China and America. From glitzy Bollywood weddings and luxury yachts, to building gigantic towers and palaces and holidaying around the world, these new Maharajahs compete with each other to spend more. Although the majority of Indians live below the poverty line, these select billionaires live off of the riches of the country's growing economy. Not only do we follow the glamorous side of this high life, but we also uncover how many are getting away with tax evasion and money laundering. We immerse ourselves in the lives of billionaires with very different profiles: from rich heirs to the self-made men. What difficulties do they face in getting to the top? During this 6-month long investigation, we infiltrate this tightly knit circle of India's new billionaires.

To me Kalpana is a real hero. The rich boy - I have my doubts- I think he is spoil brat, because most of the rich family in asia try to present their children as hugely successful while the parents themselves take care of the business. Because I know about labor behavior in asia - they might be cheap but they productivity is super low without close management supervision which cannot be replaced by recruited management. And the software business - the way he is briefing his employees, doesn't work that way. Most of the software projects either come from abroad or government where a close liasion is super important. Staying 2/3 of the year abroad you cannot manage those business. His parents just don't want their relatives to know about his mischief hence they send his abroad. Kalpana on the other hand who build her empire all by her hands and she still stays very close to her roots. Most of the people after becoming rich forget their past and relations. Her aunts surprised me even more, who still living such a simple life. Big salute to those ladies.

The same thing can be found in Pakistan. I visited a relative's house in Karachi and it was a 5-6 bedroom house made of white marble and complete with an indoor waterfall and a garden with chickens and a peacock. The kids inside were playing video games, while the ones down the block were selling toys on the street. Lots of new luxury developments by the sea (Emaar) and in the hills (Bahria Town) are coming up in a city where people fight over water and electricity. Inequality in Pakistan looks low on paper (GINI coefficient), but that's because income statistics are always skewed in favor of privileged people like myself.

This video honestly made me question my thoughts about money. On one hand, I’d love to be a billionaire because I’d feel so free in the ‘game of life’. I’d truly feel at peace knowing I have so much money that I could gift to an enormous amount of people. The things I could do to help millions which would bring me more happiness than any amount of money could ever give me. On the other hand, I’d be disgusted knowing I had that much money because billionaires can’t exist without exploiting every other class below them. I’d hate knowing I’d be grouped in with the class of ultra wealthy because of their insatiable appetite for more as if nothing is ever enough for them. Sighhh

That rich dad also started somewhere. Just saying that from experience, my grandpa made huge fortune starting from remote village with zero opportunities. He believed in giving back, he did that. And even today people remember me as his granddaughter. That always humbles me towards my goal being people oriented. My uncles lost all the fortune to manipulative partner. But they found peace in building it back, they are just 10% of my grandpa, success is difficult for them. But that’s teh risk business has, a lot depends on people you associate with.

Even storing it in banks causes it to be lent out to people who use it to buy goods and services or businesses to expand their business. @@kenbob1071 trickle down economy fails because the rich tend to store money or spend it abroad. If the laws are made correctly and followed strictly then it helps the economy grow, like strict regulations by the government/reserve bank of India on the economy helped India tackle the 2008 recession where India had minimum impact as compared to the world, it majorly depends on the law makers. It's not what u r implementing, it's about how u r implementing. Industries need to be developed and it requires a lot of money which is with the rich, now if u don't want rich people then u r leaning towards socialism. Pakistan's economy is in a very poor state because they didn't develope good industries, it always got support from the west and arab therefore it is surviving even today, hope the poor there don't suffer. There is always some pros n cons in each, n nothing is absolute. It's about finding the best combinations, like India found in capitalism and socialism, this helped India survive out of the poverty which the British left(80% were below poverty line). Perhaps. But we should likewise look at ourselves and admit that many times, we too overlook the needs of our neighbors and community members. No matter our financial situation, there are things we can do within our own small spheres to improve the lives of others. It's always easy to point at the super rich and demonize them as though we ourselves are flawless.
