Great mix of spots and largemouths! I’m heading out early tomorrow morning and will be working the topwater first. I think it’s one of the most exciting ways to fish. You make it look easy. Thanks for sharing!

Good luck! I am a topwater guy, obviously. I think it’s the most effective way to catch them this time of year and there is nothing that compares to a good topwater strike.

Thanks Titus! I have a pretty darned good topwater bite here most of the year. It is the funnest way to catch fish.

Awesome stuff! The way you work the fluke is very interesting. Saw you out there the other day, that was my first time ever at that location and it might have been the best day of fishing I’ve ever had on Lanier. Loving the top water bite, so much fun!

I also believe color can make a difference. Too many times I have been throwing one color with no bites, switched color and BAM ! Sounds like you got your GoPro problems resolved ? Two cameras running with no audio issues. At our Tournament last weekend , everybody said they were getting their bites super shallow, almost all my bites came off timber in shallow water. Our next tourney is gonna be on a heavily developed lake with docks all the way around, will have to try the Fluke around them. Good stuff as always Dana.
@FCPFishing3 ай бұрын
Thanks Don. We caught some monsters again this morning on the fluke. It's pretty unusual to have this many big fish this shallow here at Lake Lanier in August. Color definitely makes a difference, but normally it doesn't make that much difference on a topwater. At least for me.

The amount of top water popping you do all season, you must have forearms of steel. You could be the king of opening pickle jars. Great morning, great fish.
@FCPFishing3 ай бұрын
Ha! Arthritis keeps me from opening any pickle jars. I'm not that old, but it's starting to feel like it.

What replacement treble hooks do you use for the Spro E Pop 80 ? I caught a 3.5 lb spot and one of the hooks on the E Pop was bent pretty bad. If the fish were a little bigger, it probably would have straightened.
@FCPFishing3 ай бұрын
The last ones I tried were Hayabusa premium trebles, but I have had a couple of those break. My normal hooks that I use for making my jigs are Mustad hooks, so I am going back to them. The factory hooks are too soft and bend too easily.
@campbelljfishing3 ай бұрын
Dana you using mono or floro on that top water setup?
@FCPFishing3 ай бұрын
Maybe you haven't been watching, but I have been saying that the Fluorocarbon is essential to get the right sound out of the E Pop. Fluorocarbon sinks, and every "pro" will say not to use it on a topwater bait, and they are wrong. It sinks the nose of the bait ever so slightly, which enables it to get the right "bloop" sound. It makes a big difference.
@campbelljfishing3 ай бұрын
Of course I watch! I do recall you saying that before, just needed the reminder.
@mitchfarmer95093 ай бұрын
You like round bend or EWG trebles?
@FCPFishing3 ай бұрын
I don’t like EWG’s for any application. I always use round bend hooks.
@donprater27543 ай бұрын
4# Vmc hooks
@FCPFishing3 ай бұрын
I haven't had good luck with VMC's. They bend way too easily, in my experience. I use Mustads to make my jigs and I know better than to buy something else. The ones I bought were on sale, so I gave them a try.

I was actually wondering if some of the fish stay shallow even in the heat of summer. I'm a much better fisherman in the shallows.
@FCPFishing3 ай бұрын
There is always a certain number of fish that stay shallow all year long. Finding them is the trick.
