Cool to see this. I just finished a rig built over my bench. I modeled it after a portable miter saw stand. So I can attach miter saws, band saws, etc and I can use the pipes for lights and overhead shots.

Really good idea! Sometimes the best solutions are built not bought. Simple, elegant nice work Jeremy.

That's fantastic! I was recently looking for a stand holder for my rotary tool so I could use the flex shaft without just laying the tool on the table. Naturally, all the reviews for everything out there under $70 pretty-much said the stands available were pretty lame. So, I took my vice from my silversmithing days, clamped it to the table, and stuck a random piece of wood I had laying around into the vice, screwed a cup hook in and voila! Instant, sturdy rotary tool holder! Wish I could enclose a picture. What's the old adage... necessity is the mother of invention. Your overhead helper is likely more sturdy and reliable then anything you could have purchased.

Looks like a great setup! I've heard you mention your old job doing airport baggage conveyors, cool too a piece from that past used in current projects.

Thanks Nathan! Yeah it’s hard not to be a hoarder when some of the junk I’ve been hanging onto comes in handy 😆👍

Great idea! You know your rig better than anyone, but would it benefit from a small counterweight? Incorporating one should help eliminate any torque placed on the roller bearings caused by the weight of the long boom arm and camera. Cheers.

Thanks! Yes it would benefit from that but then I wouldn’t be as out of the way when not in use. I’m not concerned about the bearings enough to think it’s worth the inconvenience of something hanging off the end. But yeah if this was something I didn’t about being out of the way when not in use that would be a great idea!

@@Simplelittlelife Understood. I was imaging a very short arm (~2-3”) with an eye bolt at the very end and using a small length of chain to hang a cylindrical weight (i.e., round steel stock) to act as the counterweight. If you kept the bottom of the weight above the height of your bench, it should keep it out of your way and still allow you to swing the arm in a 360 degree arc. Just a thought.

It's one of the jingles in final cut pro called sprightly. I've been using it for years.
