For context: This is a clip from a separate documentary called "Holy Chicken" where the guy from Super Size Me creates his own fast food restaurant, hence his over analyzing of the wording of the pamphlets and wrappers, the architecture, aesthetics etc. He obviously knows it'll be shitty food, he's just there to see how they've changed since he made the original movie. If he comes off as pretentious it's mostly because they're trying to compare it to the image McDonald's is advertising themselves as. In this part they're making the point that the actual fast food they serve hasn't changed but marketing has completely changed. Like saying that their burgers are made from "100% natural beef" is a new trend to make it seem more appealing or healthier.

Ikr. Like really how many people did he actually prevent going to McDonald’s forever from that documentary, really. Not a whole lot, I imagine. If anything he just helped their new marketing scheme of making their stuff look healthier/“simpler”, and convincing people think it’s ok to give your kids a happy meal several times a week so long as you ask for the apple slices and milk instead of fries and soda....or eat there yourself since they no longer offer the xl sizes. (Even though their medium/large sizes are still massive).

Yeah funny thing, his movie was utter bullshit. Turns out the reason he got so sick had nothing to do with mcdonald's no. It was a combination of him constantly eating a vegan diet at the time, thus the sudden change was a shock to his body, AND he was an extreme alcoholic who was drinking an insane amount of booze at the time, which was the reason his liver was so messed up. Dude completely took unreliable results and published them like they were accurate.

Super Size Me really was a game changing documentary. Spurlock was a likable dude who legitimately seemed interested in tackling the blame game between fast food and consumer. Super Size Me 2 is a whole different feeling. Spurlock comes across as a pretentious douche trying to make a buck from all the people that watched the first because he knew they’d come back to watch this less than stellar documentary on chicken.
