Taking on 7 POUNDS of authentic Alaskan breakfast from Kriner's Diner in Anchorage, Alaska. @RandySantel and I each had 1 hour to finish 2 reindeer sausages, 1lb of bison, biscuits and gravy, 1.5lbs of pancakes, 6 eggs, 1lb of hash browns, and a 1.5 pound MASSIVE cinnamon roll. After big bike rides is when I chow down. The older I get, the more efficient my body has become and I simply put higher quality fuel into it. I don't think I could afford all that food either!

If you work out lots you can burn it off. I don't eat much normally, maybe 2 good meals a day and snacks with normal exercise and 4 hour bike rides. When I ride my bike for 8-16 hours through big mountains, I'm snacking high calories and sugars every 1/2 hour. When Im done I eat a full meal and drink lots before showering, then Im hungry again and will eat and drink lots more for a couple hours. Your metabolism keeps going for a few hours after exercise. I sleep, do my business in the morning and weigh myself and I usually lost 10 lbs of water weight. I'm normally 155-165lbs and 6'. These big rides will make me sore and hungry for days afterwards! One of the nice fringe benefits of hard cycling is being able to enjoy lots of good food. Its almost part of training and you spend a good amount of time eating. After all Im fueling a hard working motor! Ive seen these tiny 130lb pro riders put away vast, amazing amounts of food. Intense riding can burn a ton of calories! After the longest ride in my life (187 miles) in the Sierra Nevada, I ate a 10 lb. steak, potatoes, salad and lots of beer, got it for free along with the t shirt! And that wasn't even the hardest ride I've done!

I reside in Alaska (in The Valley, Mat-Su borough) and have eaten at Kriner's. Definitely a good Mom and Pop place to eat in Anchorage. If one goes out North to see Denali, stop at Mat-Su Family Restaurant in Wasilla off the Parks highway. Another excellent family owned restaurant.
