@@JoeKSmashBros Can I just say: would you please consider using other terminology than 'he seems fair now' as though he wasn't before? He was good for sure, but implying he wasn't fair is just misinformation. (Like saying Cloud could just pogo hop at the 4:00 mark; that took practice to space and learn the timing of!) Cloud mains have had incredibly few Singles tournament wins (Cloud never even appeared in EVO 2018's Top 32) and most people think that, while he did need a little bit of tuning, making him out to be some sort of game-breaking monster is just inaccurate. I'm grateful some of his better aerials were tweaked, just so I can stop getting flamed by every single person who dislikes the matchup, but it's not like he was Bayonetta.

Strider Zessei True, true. Ultimate rewards edge guarding and Cloud is going to struggle more than before offstage without limit because his recovery is still bad and characters like Marth that are good at edge guarding can simply do against non-limit Cloud. I can see Cloud be sent far offstage with limit, but the 15 seconds are up and loses limit and he’s unable to get back on stage and loses a stock. That’s scary.

Cloud is gonna be super hype. I love when characters that are OP get nerfed in a tasteful way that they are still very strong but the nerfs are implemented in a way that it makes the character more fun to play as and against. I call it smart nerfing

I see your point. In smash 4 when Sheik was nerfed, pretty much almost everyone dropped her, except Mr.R and Void, and after a while they still could keep her as a top tier character, in just a different approach.

I've always argued that he wasn't as strong as the community made him out to be (sure, top ten but not #2 overall.) And I'm not happy with the change to his Limit lasting only 15 seconds (unless his recovery gets buffed,) but the other changes seem okay. (I also hate the range on nair was nerfed, but that's just the logistical side of me more than anything. It makes sense from a balance perspective.)

Honestly, I'm so, *so* pumped for Cloud in Ultimate. Cloud's changes make it so that he rewards aggression on the opponent and punishes the play that made him not fun to fight in Smash 4. I'm so glad that people will finally be able to play characters like Cloud and Bayonetta without getting immense amounts of hate! One of my biggest hopes for Ultimate is that whatever character(s) end up being the strongest, they won't be so strong that they breed the same negativity seen in Smash 4.

My only worry is that the timer is going to encourage camping from the opponent since there is pretty much no benefit from approaching a blue cloud. I also want me some more finishing touch so thats all I'm sad about. Also cloud will never be truly buffed until they add more FF music

Also, Ultimate is better balanced to reward aggression. People love to crap on Cloud mains for playing defensively, but that was partly the fault of Smash 4's engine and how good the defensive options are in that game (as well as Cloud's reliance on limit to not have the 3rd worst recovery in the game.)

I actually mained cloud since his release and bought the game to play him and shulk. Ironically i already played him aggressively and rarely would sit back and charge limit unless the opponent refused to fight me and camped. So pretty much every single way i played including aggressive edgeguards and trying to go in with limit and fight with it and trying to get unique bnbs etc is how they forced him to be. Overall still gonna main him but i will lose my perfect pivot play which sucks but shield will not stop him as hard in this game. Isaac or sora/riku or lloyd might cause him to fall to secondary but as of now these nerfs will not stop me from maining him in ultimate. The salt was immense the entire time so itll be cool to not be hated wherever i go but it hardly matters. Ive played the ff series since i was a little kid and beat ff7 many times, so it was always a series loyalty thing not tier.

But for ultimate it's literally the only way to play him. And shielding is nerfed. So that playstyle may actually work decently now.

Anyways, Wolf is one of my top 4 potential mains. I understand why Steve Burton didn't voice Cloud in the Super Smash Bros. series, but I don't understand why the staff didn't try to find another English voice actor, who would be good for Cloud and would choose to be uncredited for their roles. They did it with Lyn in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and it's literally the first game where she is heard speaking (although Marth & Roy didn't have English voices in those games until Smash Ultimate), they even did it with Zelda in the World of Light cutscene and she doesn't usually speak in the Super Smash Bros. series.

ProJoe I've been maining Cloud since then it's nice to see someone looking for the good in cloud compared to the majority who complain and shame the character and the players. Before his release smash 4 was my first smash game and has someone who hasn't grown up with nitendo it was quite hard finding a main. So I played little mac cuz I played punch out growing up the problem my friends had with Mac was his super armor anytime I got a kill they would never give credit for that kill but if it was a kill with a forward smash it was like oh u won because of super armor. And for awhile I mained mac shulk captain falcon and lucina. But the day Cloud was announced I was genuinely happy for the character to be in the game. I'm such a FF fan boy and then I had a friend who mained bayo cuz he loved the the bayonetta series. So at release bayo was a problem for a time. And the friend got hate for maining the character then she was nerfed it died down a little but for me the hate grew cloud was a newly released character with a mechanic like no other and since I loved the character I felt like I grew with him from playing matches however (not to sound shallow) as I got better it honestly felt like I received a lot of hate for playing this. I was told you have no skill at this game oh you mained mac it seems you rely on come back mechanics. And in group fights I would be booted out for playing the character over just like everyone with their mains. I could continue but anyways I'm subscribing and thank you for the ray of hope for future cloud mains.

All the things you mentioned that he doesn't smash 4 he still does smash ultimate. I never played smash 4 because I didn't have a Wii U but if cloud if cloud was stronger in that game I'm glad I didnt play it. Cloud is OP as hell in smash ultimate when played a certain way. He literally has no weaknesses other than his recovery with his up B. His sword wave is cheap and and deflects most projectilesAnd he doesn't even have to to down B to charge limit he just has to attack. That's like Samus gaining charge without having to stand still and cloud can down b to charge it even faster . He's the hardest for me to beat personally

I was at a gaming con here in norway. Pretty much only played cloud and fox, who are my mains in 4. Cloud felt worse yes, but the lack of landing lag makes him scary fast on the ground and is even safer now. With the combination of nerfed shield and buffed landing lag. Uair felt the exact same minus the rising hitbox ofc, but it still auto cancles easily and you can still shark with it till the end of time. His nair was sad tho....

I can also confirm 100% that zard's colorchanges in ultimate are in the same order than in smash 4: red: regular zard leaf: red zard gold: green zard emerald: pink zard platinum: yellow zard white: white zard xavier (pkmn x): blue zard moon: purple zard It was painfull, but the second I got emerald gold and platinum gameplay, I got the 100% guarantee

Breaking limits for only 15 seconds? Cloud literally has ultra instinct. Also if you can properly space out and if you can pay close attention to what your opponent wants to do you can punish them big time trust me.

I refused to play Cloud competitively in Smash 4, because I hated how insultingly easy he was to play. None of my wins ever felt legitimate. But now that he is nerfed I can play him and not feel lame for just picking the best character.

I'm having such a hard time narrowing down who I think I would want to focus on. I'm hoping that the Squad strike becomes a staple in the tournaments, cause it seems like every character has a weakness against another, so I feel like that would make the game very versatile. What do you think about the squad strike mode?

@@-8h- not even. People love to crap on him, but Bayo, Shiek, Mario, Rosa, etc., all have much more success in tournaments than Cloud. Not saying he's bad, just overrated by a lot of people who just don't like him.

I've actually never played any Final Fantasy games but I enjoy playing Cloud in Smash 4 because I've always liked characters that rely on charging a super powerful move to unleash later. "dair can't auto-cancel all the time quit that easily" u mean it doesn't work anymore...(pls show me without a big double jump if i'm wrong) all the changes are good in my opinion only the Dair is too hard nerfed. most chars have good auto-cancels in ultimate why they take it from cloud
