Great work, very entertaining. One thing I would have added is the different chassis/models that used 4A engines, it would be very useful for someone researching parts and cross-references for a project, and it would give everybody a good idea of what you can put this engine into without any chassis modifications. After all it is one of the, if not the only engine that was used in every configuration, FF, FR and RR, with the added choice of going 16V or 20V.

@@yuotosaka9092 go for a turbo charged K20 conversion 😎 I'd never buy a 1,6L turbo. I own a opel/vauxhall astra H with 2.0 turbo and it produces 200horses stock. I could easyly add 50Hp on stock engine without reliability issues. And its allready pretty fun to drive. But you want more over time... and so im currently a 2nd block with forged internals and it will output 400-420 horses. But this year i'm gonna start with a mild 300hp software to get used to the behaviour like torque steer and upgrade the suspension to handle all that torque. What i'd like to say is: you need a bit of displacement to create exhausgasflow. A modified 1,6L turbo is flat AF innthe low range and as soon as it reaches boost you'll fight the wheelspin. With more displacement not only the turbo gets spooled earlier but the engine also has more torque below boost level. So the everyday drivabillity is wayyy better with a bit of displacement then with a tiny engine that relies 100% on the turbo-torque. As soon as the turbo will be bigger it would not spool at 2000-2500 but more like 3000-3500. And that is the problem. Now you have all the top end power and high numbers but cant get of the line because you have to wait till the engine revs to 3500 rpm. Nobody wanty that in an everyday car. The least for light cars in my opinion is 1,8L - better 2.0L. 2,5L is about perfect for up to 400 horses with perfect low end grunge and can reach 500hp with a bit of a loss in the low end. 1,6L cant get much past 200hp without major losses in the low end. If your fine with that (for ever! ) you should consider the 1,6L class.

The BDA was the ultimate Mini Cooper S racing swap in the 1970s; unimaginably expensive with a lot of machining and custom crank, etc., etc. but it had been done and so we could therefore dream about it. The commonalities with the 4AGE puts that engine in a very meaningful and interesting context.

When I had my MR2 I built what I called the mid-port 4AGE. I used a large port head and a small mort manifold. I partially filled in the floor of the ports in the head to match the floor of the port on the manifold. I really liked the way it ran, better than the small port engine did.

I owned a 4AGE BlackTop with 20 valves, or rather a Toyota Corolla GT(AE111) with 6 speed gearbox, second hand from Japan, built in 1997. Car already totalled in 2005, had owned it for some 18 months. The engine had some weaknesses in terms of performance for me as a user, between 2500 ~ 4000 RPM there was a black spot if you were above 4th gear. For sure its an Iconic engine. As for the sound, it sounded more like a Yamaha motorcycle engine when floored.

Here from NZ 🇳🇿 I have a 4age 20v blacktop in a ae111 Sprinter has done 295000ks from factory, unopened stock form. Still going strong, taken to redline most times I drive it and never missed a bit. Owned for 7 years. Also own a 2zzge, zze123 Corolla Z tourer, but must say AE111 sprinter can easily hold its ground to it's successor with half the mileage. 0-160km/h that is. Both 6MT. Ae111 4age Sprinter is more fun to drive, alot less weight and seems to handle better and more aggressive intake noise than the 192hp successor 2zzge Corolla. My 2cents..

You live in the land of MRP! Lucky! Yeah, I got that from a lot of ppl. Old analogue stuff has more thrills even if less power on paper.

Awesome video! I recently realized if my 4A wasn't dead I'd probably be on a quest to twin charge it and make an MR2 Super Turbo! Hahaha. I guess my vote for an engine video would be the Toyota UZ engine. Doubt it will be near the top of your list, but they are super cool V8 engines!

You could cover engines in order by #of cylinders so as you have started with the 4AGE you could then do the 4G63T, EJ20, etc then move onto 6 cylinder's such as the 6G72TT, 2jZ, RB series, etc etc

A specification was missed at 9:26 for the 4A-GZE. There were two generations; 1st gen 145hp used the large port 16v head, 2nd gen 165hp used the small port 16v head.

Good day. I really likes the 4AGE till he mentioned that is we want more power with out doing a whole then we must opt for a toyota 4A-GZE. Your thoughts ?
@stephenskgunter2 жыл бұрын
@@grfico_ It all depends on your goal. You can certainly make power with a naturally aspirated 4A-GE but it can get expensive depending on how much you want to make. So, what's your power goal?

16v 4ages had 112hp only in America and some areas of Europe, cause of the MAF sensor, but Japanese domestic market 4ages had 128 and map sensors

Toyota Engine naming system: First digit: Iteration of engine block Second digit: Engine block type Third digit: Head type (F for eco heads, G for performance heads) Fourth digit (if applicable): Varies (S for D4S combined fuel injection technology, T for turbocharger, Z for supercharger) Last digit: E for electronic fuel injection (Carbureted engines typically didn’t use the last digit for fuel system type)

It would be nice to see 2zz next. Plus it is popular swap in mr2 spyder and not super rare swap in first-gen mr2 ;) P.S. Nice video!

Excellent explaination and learnt alot. Can you pls do a similar video for 4EFTE - for Toyota Starlet GT Ep82 or Glanza Ep91. They are very good engines too. But nobody seems to talk about them too much sadly. Thank you and keep up the good work.

A good old 20v Silvertop that can scream all the way till 11k with some ITBs and 75mm trumpets is the way to go. Because picking a 4AGE nowadays is for aesthetics while driving/racing.
