This is a stunning 300-square-foot jungle tiny home on wheels with a screened-in porch/lanai that provides an additional 300 square feet of covered living space. It's located in Kaua'i, Hawai'i, and was built by Jack for his family of 4 (soon to be 5!). He is an incredible natural builder with over 22 years of experience and the majority of the materials he uses are reclaimed, sustainable, and invasive species like albizia trees.
Not only do we get a tour of this jungle home, but we also get a peek at some of Jack's previous builds, including a skoolie conversion, the wave tiny house, and his latest project which is a tiny house on wheels that he will be donating to a family in Lahaina who was affected by the Maui wildfire.
You can donate to the fundraiser here:

I hope they already checked to make sure the home with the wood if untreated will be allowed on the island. My first thought was that it would be awful if the home had to be turned away because of worry about non-native plants/insects or other concerns making their way to the maui.

Oh my goodness, there is just something so soul-filling in a hand-built home. It is just the opposite of the kind of standardized, substandard tract home that developers build today, and which are rubber-stamped by authorities. How wonderful it would be if we could all work together in groups under the direction of an inspired builder like Jack to build our own homes, and work with others to build theirs - like the barn-raising of the Amish. We have lost so much that is valuable and good and kind - like all those values and qualities that Jack and his family have stamped into their staircase. May we find a way to turn things around and live more honest lives where we support and empower each other and live simply and more in harmony.

$250K for tiny house built with reclaimed materials is just ludicrous. I respect his skills and creativity, but I wouldn't spend that much.

@@robertameredith1190 No, I do not. Please, and I do mean PLEASE, provide me with some facts/links to justify the $250K price tag for "reclaimed/used/discarded" materials. I don't want to accidentally buy from those places. FYI: the guy just builds and sells houses, not the land. If he was including the land with the house, then it would be a steal.

Tiny homes have been part of Hawaii for years and years. Most people though they own the house do no own the land, it is leased. This build and attitude behind this house is totally a reflection of Hawaiian culture.

One more thought, if you include the outdoor space, the lanai, the house is 600 sq. Ft. The lanai is an integral and important part of a Hawaiian home.

This was a very enlightening video - both with your talent of building and also all the details included in your building. Everything just clicks - its earthy yet a bit modern - its small yet very airy and open - it's very homey and functional. It just makes sense - so much sense. It's something to watch and learn for sure. We have way more things that we can use and need. Simplify our living makes us feel free. There's a sense of calmness about you, your family and your home. Love the gardening area too - it's just right. Thank you for this video - I will be sharing it. TYVM

I don't know the logistical challenges he faced in building this in Hawaii but we need to take that into consideration and that can make a huge difference in the final cost. I built a two storey house in a very remote location up in the mountains. My house is at an altitude of 8300 feet. The logistical challenge was enormous and that itself took the overall cost of building to 5x what it would have cost me to build in a more accessible location, not far from the city. But of course the premium paid was worth it considering the awe inspiring nature's beauty all around.

When you live in the tropics, you don't need a dryer. Clothes air dry really fast in those temperatures. Just hang them up outside. And regarding the water heater.. there are plenty options to have your water heated by the sun. Your other points are subjective as well. He biuld a house that fits exactly his families needs. There is nothing more real.

I agree that 250k for a tiny house on wheels built with reclaimed materials is outrageous, what are the dimensions of the house and how do you justify the cost. That amount of money would build a much bigger traditional house. How are you trying to get the cost down? Hopefully more than half that amount down.
