I just would like to say thank you enormously, I have now for a while been dancing on Arabic music like George Abdul, Muhammad El Bakkar some other greatly talented artists every time I would listen to their art I would get overwhelmed so I decided I wanted to learn to play Oud, I researched some info on the internet and you came up then I discovered your KZbin channel and I watch almost all your videos and I am now an oud owner and trying to learn oud, you are such an inspiration my guy! Thank you for sharing your art and teach us!

You have great teaching skills. Your videos are very clear and methodical; you seem to understand problems with beginners. Thanks for sharing. I think my problem with playing tremolo may be more psychological than physical. As I play faster, I notice myself getting more tense (afraid of making mistakes) and start using muscles I shouldn't be using, like the shoulder muscles. When that happens, inevitably I hit strings I should not hit. Maybe I am trying to do things too fast. Perhaps I should play and take a break and then resume as you suggest in your video. Thanks!

How's your tremolo going?
@OudforGuitarists4 жыл бұрын
That could be. Practice tremolo by strumming as many strings as you can. Or muting the strings while you strum. That might take away some fear.

@@zyriab5797 - Sorry I missed your post. My tremolo playing is not much better. I will never give up. It’s the nerves more than simple coordination. I may need a hypnotist more than an oud tutor. Funny that I make smooth movements of my wrist in the air right above the strings. As soon as I touch the strings, the tension sets in. I hit the wrong strings, the risha begins to slip and my movements are no longer smooth. The upward stroke mostly comes with a jerk. Very frustrating. I saw this tutor’s website and he mentions the exact frustrations of unguided beginners. If it was only a matter of skill, repetition and practice should obviously lead to improvement. But psychological problems are a different matter. Still, I play for fun using down strokes mainly. Briefly, I know what my problems are but don’t quite know how to address them effectively. Had my problem been exclusively skill related, I would have joined his classes. They seem really good and worth every cent.

1:12 imagine the risha is like water flowing over rocks. by the way, although the outcome of picking should be the simplest movement, it requires complex communication of many muscles working in unison with the most complicated body's joint, the wrist, it really helps to pick with your dominant hand which has been trained from birth to make the muscles work as one synchronised apparatus. The non dominant hand did not get trained and hence making it work as one will cause a lot of frustration, because it is ideal for finger independence, because it was not trained to effectively concentrate all the precision into a single spot like during drawing and writing and using hand tools. If one is left handed, please pick with your left hand, you will save yourself a lifelong picking struggle and the fretting although looks a lot more difficult, it is actually easier to do than maintaining and articulating a satisfying precise picking. true story

Hi Navid, when playing a C Major scale, for example, with added tremolo, there's a huge gap between the first note (C) and the the open first string. Would the pattern still be down, up, down, up for one tremolo 'unit' or would it be down, down, up, down? I find the latter easier but I can only do it very slowly. Farid el Atrache does it at the speed of light. Are there more than 3 notes in his tremolo between his scale notes? Could you do a video on scales with tremolos? Thanks!

You can utilize this technique on guitar as well. Gypsy-guitarists play like that. And most of them gain breathtaking speed.

Imagine playing through the strings, and don't be afraid to play several strings at a time until your wrist is comfortable with the movement. In fact, just strum a tremolo, strum several strings. Get into the habit of playing through the strings. Don't be surprised if it takes you 6 months or more to start playing decent tremolo. It takes time, but it amazing in the end. Well worth the wait.

how to have a clean tremolo from a string to another without mistakes
@sasamego2888 жыл бұрын
I have the same question ?
@OudforGuitarists8 жыл бұрын
when you are learning tremolo don't worry about playing clean until your hand is not afraid of the strings. your wrist needs to get comfortable with hitting the strings in the begining. fter your arm is stronger you can control it more and make smaller movements.
