In a perfect world, Gale Banks would reign atop a media empire, so that an experienced, straight-shooting, educated engine builder with a sense of humor could help illuminate this sometimes murky, confusing field in a way only Banks can, with his signature combination of razor sharp intellect, quick wit and biting forthrightness and honesty. I’ve been a fan of his for years, and while I think this series is long-overdue, it’s another case of better late than never. I wish Gale a long, healthy life, and continued success and productivity in his professional endeavors. America needs more folks like Gale Banks, and it’s high time we appreciate this living treasure and give him the spotlight he deserves.

No one else takes the time, has the labs and test rooms with knowledgeable staff to help him with his mission. It's one of my most valued series to watch anywhere.

Mr Banks i can recall being maybe 16 years old when i first saw an article in what i recall to be hot rod magazine and you had accomplished to the best of my recollection 900 hp from a 350 Chevy when i saw how it looked and the numbers i knew that i had to get one . But in Australia and still at school i was a little ahead of myself I bragged about your system many people disregarded what i had said i found it very difficult to obtain it and did not pursue it any further .i am so glad that your still so passionate and dedicated to what you do and to me your the best at it . My hat off to you sir i am at the least still loving what you bring to those of us who also similarly minded

Gale, I did a twincharge setup myself.. just because I could. (1.6l gas- Mini) My theory is since the supercharger has a displacement larger per engine rev than the engine (as it has to in order to make positive pressure), that no matter what you do before it, the pressure post supercharger will always be higher than pre super charger. With that in mind, is the flow through that bypass instead not dumping from the supercharger outlet, back into its inlet? That was my theory. I.e. all of the mass flow that goes through the turbo's also goes through the supercharger. The bypass just removes the compounding of the SC and removes some crank load. Essentially you would be bringing the supercharger pressure ratio down by diverting its outlet back to its inlet which should reduce the compression resistance seen by the rotors, thus removing some of the load from the crank? Would love to get your input as you have done this way more than me. I developed my own bypass valve for my setup, and use a literal pressure regulator to control that boost "crossover" point, as well as having a stepped diameter valve so that different boost thresholds would help the setup to "fail open", while allowing the regulator to top/hat always have a pneumatic advantage over the valve. Ended up using a FEP oring on PTFE bore in the top hat (played with diaphrams as well), and am having good results so far. Low stiction, and I dont have to worry about inverting the diaphram.

I can tell... you enjoy your work thoroughly Mr. Banks. In my opinion, you are the modern day engine Einstein, and clearly design absolute genius into everything you build, as well as having presentation and beauty of design always so perfectly matched to function. Your work Sir... looks very put together. I also appreciate your thinking on your valve modulation balance factor as a means of power punch control... for a diesel, that was wonderful to see where the system led you to a control point. I imagine that combo you’ve built will be insanely wicked. Love your work... your smile throughout your video says you love what you do... especially the little nuances, like the horn shaped blow off valve pipe.. very very cool. A fan... Michael Miller

Gale, this is great. I think the turbos are maybe a touch small. Maybe not but if your aiming for 13-1400 hp I don't know if the compressors can move the air volume each required to make 700 smoke free horsepower. Running a bsfc of 0.4 and 18:1 afr, each turbo can flow at the outer edge of the curve, enough air for about 820hp. Your going to run into a few problems pushing them that hard that might.not crop up in 2 minute rounds or 15 second blasts at full throttle. The blower is going to be your saving grace here. The turbine housings are a bit oversized for 3.5l of displacement but with the belt driven compressor and charge cooler, the engine has an effective manifold air density somewhere around 1.4 times SAE standards at idle and about 2 times SAE at higher rpm. I did some back of the envelope calculations and for no smoke at 4000 rpm and 1400 hp, you need a 100% cylinder fill volume and a manifold air density of 3.68 times SAE. If your only getting 90% cylinder fill volume, which is still very good, you need a manifold air density of 4.09. Neither form of forced induction alone can provide that density with ease, but combining them will make it more than possible. If the turbochargers provide the belt driven compressor with air twice the density of SAE, and the supercharger does the same, effectively doubles the density, you will get the manifold air.density you need.

Mr. Banks I wanna thank you for this video, every since you started I've been dreaming of this point. If this is not enough I have one more idea.... Extend the body of the inner cooler and make a dual port on top. This will allow 2 twin screw superchargers. Then upgrade your turbos by 30 mm bigger each turbo.... When I was 5 years old I read about your record run in the red car, I remember the article said something if I'm not mistaken that you guys were put in blocks of ice in there to help cool the motor. I have followed you most in my life and I wanna thank you I absolutely love motorsports. I really like the way this is built. Hit all of the tubing with some fine scotch brite, and bust out the camera. Those blower bypass tubes are sweet. I bet you can get a ratchet on the back of the intercooler plate. For a second there, I was wondering if reversing the bypass and the blowoff valve would be necessary. But this configuration looks easy to maintain and tweak.

Question... Why are you bypassing hot air from the in front of the first intercooler to below the blower? Wouldnt you want cooler air and put the bypass valve after the first intercooler or is the second cooler efficient enough to chill the bypassed air? Great vids!

I made a drawing of a turbo where the intake/hot side & cool side of the turbo is seperated by a 24 inch shaft. On each end are the impellers. The exhaust intake side of the turbo doesn't affect opposite side with its heat, so the side pushing air in is a lot cooler.
