To be fair to the territories: yeah, they weren't as rich as WWE became (or WCW was), but during the territory years TONS more people actually watched wrestling, and tons more people actually made a decent living in the wrestling industry. To also be fair: most of the territories were in DEEP with the mob and were super corrupt.

Jeff Jarret is actually an adept wrestler and businessman, TNA was at its best when he was in charge and also took part in booking. Only problem is he's not very good at booking himself. He's great as a heel and a great obstacle for well liked wrestlers to go through. Check out some of his work overseas in Mexico or even just TNA or WCW stuff. Also it's thanks to him that NJPW got Wrestle Kingdom from a while back simulcast with english commentary. So, yeah, I'm pretty rustled.

Pretty sure Panda Energy took charge of TNA almost immediately after Double J discovered he'd been lied to about the profitability of the PPV only business model and realized he had no money. And those early days of The Dicks, Sports Entertainment Xtreme (SEX, get it?) and gigantic clusterfuck main events most certainly weren't the highlight of TNA. Jarrett's a pretty good wrestler, and he's great at acquiring talent and maintaining working relationships, but he's a pretty shit businessman. TNA tanked and needed to be bailed out by Panda, directly leading to Dixie's Wild Ride, and GFW is pissing money into the ocean running largely empty baseball stadiums and filming TV (where almost the entire audience was papered in, mind you) without an actual TV deal in place, something that has never worked for any promotion before.

I hate to be that well actually guy, but Lawler is actually a handful of contenders for greatest wrestler ever. great mic skills, probably the best punches ever thrown, take great bumps, sells like a badass. and thats the tangible stuff. he has the best sense of timing of all time. knows WHEN to give, when to perform a comeback. and he knows how to do a proper comeback. certainly has a flair for the dramatic. and is effective as both face and hell. top 5 brawler of all time. knows how to lay out matches.

Since most legends shows, are done in gyms or at best convention centers, the game isn't far off in that. The Pillman gun thing was a bit far, even though not to long after you had Austin pulling a gun on McMahon in the arena, with the Bang 3:16 banner coming out. In the 70s in the south hardcore was everywhere, Dusty didn't get that forehead for no reason. It really started in Puerto Rico, and traveled to Florida and Texas mainly, but it was never just for the sake of it, the violent matches where for feud enders.

Vince actually did approve of the Austin/Pillman angle. Pillman was waiting in his "mansion" with broken leg and a gun for Stone Cold. The FCC got mad because Pillman very clearly said "FUCK" loudly on the air during the confrontation also, Tazz debuted at the 2000 RR against Angle, and he gave Angle his first loss in the company.
