They took out most of the survival mechanics in this one. Instead of the lantern being a portable light source that can be used at the cost of fuel, you instead have essentially a flashlight that never runs out of power. They also didn't include an inventory, meaning that if items were to be used in puzzles, they would have to be semi close to the area that needs it, instead of a collectible item, that can be applied to a later puzzle, or one that's farther away.

to be fair, the thing that's supposed to be horrifying about A Machine For Pigs is not the gameplay, it's the gradual descent of Mandus into insanity, the slow twisting of the darker parts of human nature, inflated and corrupted. The pigs in-game never did anything more than give me some jump scares, but after watching the ending cutscene I was super freaked out. Maybe that's just me though.
@lukegillin245810 жыл бұрын
Comix777 The merit of the idea is subjective, I disagree with your opinion, however this will not go anywhere. Uh that's really not how MFP presented Manus at all. I won't argue with you about the gameplay, it was boring as fuck. I'm not defending MFP as the pinnacle of horror, the themes weren't the most original, but the story was really well realised and the themes played into the story quite well. Opinions I guess though.

The writing and visual design is way better than the original Amnesia. Unfortunately Chinese Room have no idea how to design gameplay. Also the voice work of the kids is horrendous.
@jasonfenton82507 жыл бұрын
Bhazor Writing is worse, psuedo-intellectual bullshitery replacing a simple but effective story. Visual design I'm not sure about, it is better on a technical level, but Dark Descent really nailed the gothic ambience and produced some really great imagery with limited resources.
@Doc_Fun7 жыл бұрын
The issue for me is that the limited resources started becoming really, really apparent as you went on and not much changed. I'm not saying it's not realistic to have drastic changes in scenery in a game confined entirely to one building, but from a design perspective it starts to wear on you a bit. As for pseudo-intellectualism, to each their own but I thought the story was very interesting, and in that department did what a sequel is supposed to do - go larger and deeper than the first. That being said, this certainly isn't a very good _Amnesia_ game, and I really don't think it should be called one. Honestly, TDD didn't leave a whole lot of room for a sequel to be made, and had this just been "A Machine for Pigs", I think it would've been more well-received (and sold about 1000x less). As it is I still think it gets a bit more hate than is necessary. Had Amnesia 2 been more like 1 people would've just wrote it off as derivative anyways. They should've just kept working on SOMA and ignored the fan hype, but they wanted to make money with their hot button license, and I can't blame them for that.

I agree with Pat and the thing about controllers for PC games. The only way I would play games on my computer is if I could use a controller instead of bullshit keyboard and mouse controls.
@The-MoonbearX10 жыл бұрын
I mean, not to sound like an elitist, but I think you're wrong. Mouse and Keyboards are simply more accurate, and having access to all buttons at once means you can perform more actions quicker.For example, unless you use a modded controller, things on ABXY (360) are unavailable while also using the right analog stick, and that's a severe draw back. I would like to also say, saying things like "X is bullshit!" just opens yourself up for abuse and starts unnecessary arguments. It could have easily been an elitist who replied to you instead of me.
@TK092110 жыл бұрын
Well that is your opinion and you're entitled to it.

@TK092110 жыл бұрын
Lmfaoyeah Well that's your opinion and you're entitled to it.
@The-MoonbearX10 жыл бұрын
But the problem is, it isn't an opinion. A mouse has more versatile mobility, allowing users to go from tiny movements and corrections to big 360 spins in less than a second, and keyboard allows all keys to be pressed independently. Controller only offers the tiniest range of view movement and restricted buttons. I'm not saying everybody with a keyboard is better than everybody with a controller, but the same people given the same time-frame to learn the same game, with the only difference being the some have controller, some have M+K, the M+K people will have the advantage. For proof, just research why game developers segregate PC and console gamers.
