I was inspired to play through DMC3 for the first time when these guys started. I got lost in Mission 5 and I knew that one of two things would happen that either Pat would instantly know where to go and make me feel like a dumb ass or he would get lost for a decent portion of the video and enter every other room first. Thanks for validating me Pat but I didn't expect the extra cherry on top that Woolie would be reading the exact same walkthrough I had to use

Yeah, this game is notoriously confusing. People can get lost as early as the first room of Temen-ni-gru and later missions can be pretty nasty (M7 with extensive backtracking, everything past M13 when the entire layout gets turned on its head). DMC1 offered some hints with mission screens and item descriptions; DMC4 was split into distinct zones (castle, lab, forest, Order HQ) and locked out some rooms at first, making the initial progression more linear and the item spots/puzzles easier to find and memorize. DmC dodged that bullet altogether by making each mission a separate level and closing off old progression paths through scripted setpieces. This game... well, whip out that GameFAQs page, use your Super Metroid instincts or run around until you get lucky and find the right place to go.

Christ I got just HORRIBLY lost in the 19th mission since the object you need to shove the progression stone into is one thing that you can easily glaze over if you aren’t focusing and don’t realize that the seemingly one way path can still be used to go to the earlier place. See, the great thing about Devil May Cry 3 and other games of its ilk is that there is so much tech to discover! I honestly never knew weapon choice actually affected bosses like Rudra or Gigapede, and never knew that Real Impact could be powered up by DT (which they say in the DMC1 play through). There's such a high skill ceiling and it's still fun at low level play too! I genuinely look forward to this LP going forward knowing I'm gonna learn some new tricks to practice on my own time. My only real problem with it is it’s color palette. The areas with other colors really stand out and the level design is really cool. There’s a straight up Castlevania clock tower here am the way to Beowulf. Every demon in this seems like they are just psyched to get beat and become someone else's property... which kind of fits their characterization in one. Mundus kept them as individual combatants... but presumably, he kicked their asses too. That is why they are so loyal- demons are naturally hierarchical it seems.

That might also explain their problem with humans- they are proud of their power, and use it as the standard to sort people out. So this leads to a situation where they go on a slaughter because they got too rough with the humans. This might be the tragedy of their race- they can survive a lot, and even if they get beat they can continue existence as a sick pair of nunchucks. But they are unable to understand the worries of more fragile humans.

I disagree; I think defeating Agni and Rudra at the same time makes the fight _far_ easier, as you don't have to deal with the remaining brother's AoE attacks. The real question is why you would deprive yourself of such a cool phase of the fight (short of repeatedly having your teeth kicked in over and over)?

The elemental weakness system of DMC3 is the raddest shit. I'm honestly sad that it didn't come back in DMC4. It's also one of those obtuse mechanics that you won't realize it's there until you play as Vergil and realize Beowulf is weak to Yamato because it's dark elemental. EDIT: Fuck you that's terrifying. I didn't know Jester's arena had those fucking faces in them.

Not only are there elemental weaknesses against certain enemies but I vaguely remember there's also a weapon TYPE weaknesses too. Those Enigmas and later those Chess pieces are actually weak against Cerberus and Beowulf due to inherent blunt damage compared to the cutting damage from Rebellion and A&R

If you read Agni and Rudra's profiles it implies that their bodies are actually separate demons. Dante is just the latest in a long line of Agni and Rudra weilders.
