I fired up Resident Evil 5 a while back, and looked through some of the files after playing a couple of stages. Turns out the Irving file explicitly states what his business was before and during the events of the game, as well as his motivation and mental state at every part of the story. It's written like actual journal entries from Dante observing the devils he hunts, and each entry becomes longer and more detailed as you fight each enemy type more often and witness more of their behaviors.

I honestly don't know why he said that. Both sons of Sparda can literally use ANY weapon they get their hands on. They just have preferences. Vergil uses Yamato because it came from Sparda, and he just dislikes guns entirely. Dante will really use anything he can get his hands on, so long as it kills demons dead.

In the expanded DMC canon it's explained that powerful Devils can assume human form for any extended period of time, so Sparda could just do that. Look human and go "DT" into his true form kinda like Dante. And Dante's only max 50 in DMC5, not 65 XD And they're called Assaults in 4, not Blades. But they're basically the same thing. Also I like how Frosts, Blades/Assaults, and Blitz were all endowed power by Mundus in their lore. That's pretty sweet.

Considering how he has an actual human form from birth, the Sin DT is just him taking the form of his demonic heritage at its most powerful. Essentially, Sparda would have never needed a Sin DT because he was already a demon and at his most powerful.

Since we're correcting mistakes: -Vergil is in fact capable of wielding greatswords. In fact about 1/3rd of his moveset revolves around wielding a greatsword (along with a katana but yes) -Spencer Redgrave from the RE4 days was not proto-Sparda, but rather proto-Mundus (I mean they were kinda the same character at first but again that design was more closely associated with Mundus later on) -Since we're on that, the Sparda costume wasn't originally just the Sparda model with Dante's head on, it was supoosed to be an older, more refined Tony Redgrave, that they just reused as a costume

I tend to start on Normal(Demon Hunter?) or whatever it's called and about halfway through I always give up and go through on Human(easy) finish that then go back through and climb back through all the difficulties. I don't know if that would be the most interesting way to do it for you as well or not but it always seems the difficulty is way too high by the middle of the game that having to claw way through to the end just becomes too annoying. Once you have all the health upgrades and weapons unlocked Normal becomes about as difficult as Easy was when you had nothing. Hard(Son of Sparda) mode becomes about as difficult as Easy with nothing once you acquire the full move sets and damage upgrades which you should have by that time. Add on to that learning how to deal with enemies a little better each play through and it ends up not being that bad. The only problem is that tends to be a fairly huge time investment.

There was a game called Phantasy Star IV for genisis. Zio's (im just fucking evil) stick was probably the best lead up to a boss in any game ever. He didn't have a lot of back story but he really aggressively fucking up everything he possibly could to piss off the good guys. Also you fight him multiple times and causes you characters as much pain as possible. Most games I've played didn't have that much of lead up to final fight other than final boss battles.

@7:32 No you don't actually _NEED_ Air Hike for that part (though it makes it far easier), but at the very least you need Air Raid/Vortex. What I do is I do a wall jump off the wall that connects the small tower to get some height, then I activate DT mode and then fly left of the higher tower and towards the lower one. Then without deactivating DT mode, I land, collect the red orbs that appear, do a small jump upwards, initiate Air raid and then fly/spin my way over towards the tower. I can't remember if it's too high to directly fly into the Blue Orb fragment but at the very least I can get close enough to the edge of the ledge to have Dante grab it once DT runs out or is deactivated and he drops. Granted this is a very finicky way of doing it, especially when you don't have many DT gauges, but it is possible if you don't have Air Hike.

As someone else pointed out the reason why the cutscene for Phantom is odd is because there is a secret way to kill him by getting him to do his jump attack several times while standing on the glass. it will break and he will fall in regardless of health. That is why the cutscene is odd because they had to cover both ways the way Pat did it via just beating him and the other way which is why if you noticed he comes down feet first despite falling over when Pat beat him and then flipping onto his back to be impaled.

Fun Fact: The DMC Demo included with RE Code Veronica starts at Missin 2, skips Phantom and ends just as Nelo Angelo jumps from his perch. I was certainly surprised when Phantom turned up in the main game. Great demo.

The actual official reason that Dante is stronger than his parents is because he's a demon with "Heart" which makes him stronger. The reason Sparda went from being "just" a really tough demon to being the biggest badass ever is because he "Woke up to justice" and gained humanity in spite of being born a demon and was able to love Eva. This is also why Vergil loses to Dante, he rejects his humanity while Dante accepts both sides of him and it makes him stronger.

So I've always wondered if people playing DMC before DMC3 found Nelo Angelo super hype, and how they felt about the Vergil reveal. It's a huge moment if you know what happens in 3, but did it have a similar effect in 2001?

The design of nelo angelo was cool, but the reveal was confusing as there was no context that explains the situation. There isnt going to be a huge pop for a character that hasnt been establish in any way other than a video game boss.

That's kinda what I figured. I guess I was just wondering if someone playing the game had a moment of "What the Hell? Dante's brother was just as cool as he is!", or "no Wonder Nelo Angelo is rad as fuck, he's my twin". Like, adding a small layer of dimension to what was previously a really cool boss aesthetically. Kinda like how Ridley from Metroid is pretty cool on his own, but learning that he's intelligent, capable of speech, and led a massacre on Samus's home colony adds a bit more to his fights.
