For those wondering the guy that designed the "Hollow Virgil" fight claimed he had never seen or heard of Bleach and claimed instead that he was referencing "The Hollow Men" a poem by T.S Eliot which is where Dantes Inferno got a lot of inspiration, so no they supposedly didn't ripoff Bleach (at least intentionally) they ripped off Dantes Inferno. Edit: The designer's name is Rogerio Silva and from what I can tell he did mean the Dantes Inferno game and not the Divine Comedy.

You know what could have been a more interesting descent into darkness, and would have made more sense for this Vergil? Don't have him be corrupted, just have him be stubborn. He wanted to take over, simultaneously rule and protect humanity, because he thinks humans are helpless like children. Rather than becoming evil because he feels that Dante betrayed him, make him blinded by his convictions, that he must do the right thing and rule humanity, even if that means becoming stronger than Dante and killing him. This probably would have worked better for the pacing, since it's a short DLC, instead of everyone yelling at Vergil for being a dick and him either not responding or basically just saying "no", they tell him he's evil, and he argues that what he does is for the greater good. This is basically what happened at the end of the main game, Vergil said he wanted to take over, and Dante and Kat were like "what the fuck? No, that's evil", and a fight ensued due to those opposing view points. It would've made more sense if this DLC's story just elaborated on that, but instead Vergil just gets angry and starts yelling "I NEED POWER!"

It's also because the fake Dante and Kat, that are supposed to be in his mind and his perceptions, are not only saying things that the real ones never said, but their doesn't seem to be much foundation for them to say these things. If this game got a sequel, a big part of Vergil's motivation is equivalent to someone saying "I'm mad at you because you were a dick to me in my dream last night". Pat and Woolie already pointed out that Vergil pulled his sword on Dante first, Dante didn't want to fight his brother, he wanted to resolve things, then Kat stopped Dante from going too far and killing Vergil, so there is no reason for him to believe the two of them hate him like they do in this hell mindscape. Like I said, if they just made it that Vergil is stubborn in his decision, and thinks Dante is misguided, then he believes that Dante's foolish way of thinking will jeopardize the entire human race, so he has to become stronger and kill Dante to save and rule the human world.

I already wrote a comment about it so I'll just paste it below: and to be fair Vergil does try to plea his case to Kat until she starts poking at his insecurities and attacking him. "I'll be honest I kinda unironically love how this story is basically a persona 4 dungeon gone HORRIBLY WRONG. In P4 a preson is trapped in their dungeon (a manifestation of their faults/repressed feelings) until the party comes to help them accept their shadow (the personification of said faults/feelings) and learn to be a better person. Except no one comes to help Vergil. He doesn't learn or accept anything and just brute forces his way out. this results in him refusing to admit he's wrong and doubling down super hard into villainy."

@@JX44-579 I don't see why Tommy's idea wouldn't work better with the concept of a P4 dungeon gone wrong. Fake Donte and Kat could have pointed out flaws and hangups, only for Vergil to deny anything about his outlook needs to change. He encounters a cackling caricature of himself as a tyrant for a "shadow," and kills it through brute force instead (with the scene framing how through doing this, Vergil is acting just as his fake claims he does). Instead of accepting his flaws or growing as a person, the DLC could have ended on an actual Donte fight, where Donte (cognitive or real) offers a truce and Vergil rejects it out of hand. If the scene with his mother is still included, have it be nearer the end, and have Vergil be cold and declarative instead of sadistic. If they want to give Vergil a Kylo Ren inferiority complex hissy fit somewhere along the way (either him doing it, or a shadow of himself doing it), that'd still work fine.

So one really minor thing that keeps getting to me is how Vergil holds the sheath for Yamato. In all the other DMCs, he holds it close to his hips, arm parallel to the body and elbow bent. Even running, he doesn't move his left arm as much as his right. He always keeps Yamato close at hand, ready to draw. In DmC:DMC, except in his idle pose, he's either holding the sheath limply, or he throws it as far away from his body as possible, arm straight out and perpendicular to his body. Even if you don't know a thing about iaido (and I sure don't), you can tell this is a sloppy, clumsy way to hold it. It's a really small detail, but it's enough to give you the sense that DmC:DMC Vergil is a rank amateur with the Yamato and DMC Vergil has unquestionably mastered it.

For those wondering, they always did had loud audio queues in the main game, and in the original no, there was still no lock on on this, this is also a DE thing. HOWEVER, in the Downfall of the Virgin the enemies do attack you offscreen, that was the main difference, in the main game they just sorta waited around, but here they'd just shank you no questions asked.

I think the biggest problem with this game's combat is that Ninja Theory seems to think the best way to challenge the player is to restrict their options. Like almost every single bad gameplay moment can be traced back to fighting enemies that just don't let you do the thing. Even with the coloured enemy thing toned down, you've still got bullshit like this, where the game's like "No, now you need to play like this, fuck you." It's like they didn't realize that freedom in combat is the main thing that makes DMC gameplay good. I'm glad this game exists, just for the sake of conversation and argument. Like it's a great way to highlight exactly what makes good character action games good, because this game manages to do almost everything the exact wrong way.

Eva has red hair even though she's an angel when its established that the angel color scheme is blue and the devil color scheme is red. Donte is shown to be more in tune with his inner devil so his hair is black and his color scheme is red like Sparda so that checks out... but even that gets thrown out when Donte gets white hair! Spyro The Dragon also has that "off-screen enemies won't attack" thing going on. You could be standing still right next to an enemy and it won't do anything to you as long as you position the camera so it's not visible. Sometimes it can go a step further and they simply won't attack if Spyro himself isn't *facing* them. It's kinda nuts.

I wish Vergil wanted to rule the world with his brother Dante. Bing back the nephilim kingdom and try to convince other angels and demos to to be on their side and make more nephilim. Vergil is is pissed off at Dante for disrespecting their birthright and this was father's plan after Mundus killed all the nephilim against his orders.

So let me see if I got this straight. Vergil tells the actual spirit of his dead mother he killed his brother to break her heart and server his connection to his apparent humanity or something but the Dante and Kat he killed were just things he made up in his head and therefore are not real. Kind of want to know if Vergil has gone insane and thinks he actually killed Dante and if he did comeback in the sequel how is he going to react to the fact that he just killed a ghost he made up and it was not even close to the real thing. No matter how I look at it Vergil just comes off as incredibly pathetic in this portrayal.
