I remember reading that AOF3 was supposed to emulate/compete with 3d fighters like Tekken and Virtua Fighter, which may help explain the pace, excessive launchers, down time on the floor.... because you are encouraged to juggle, hit guys on the ground etc. Once I read that I enjoyed this game a lot more :)

Art of Fighting should include Bob Ross as a playable character. If there is a person who knows about “Art” and “Fighting”, it’s the legendary painter who fought in Vietnam.

CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG he actually did. From 1961 to 1981, he was in the US Air Force, serving as a Master Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He was known to be a tough and surprisingly angry leader. The reason he left the military is because he hated the fact he had to be mean and loud when training soldiers and in military operations, which is why he became a soft spoken painter who encouraged kindness. In a way, he was Kratos before Kratos, as he was quite wrathful but changed his ways in hopes of becoming a better person who sought a new meaning in life.

It was made on their existing hardware to compete with the new popular 3d fighting games. They chose AoF for the experiment. The juggles, ground attacks, and rise commands are taken from the 3d genre.

I keep forgetting to tell you guys this after each of these videos: If you are using some sort of M-ulator device to play these games, you could very easily use it's integrated return-by-death function to create a save marker when you are in the character select screen. TLDR: save states are not only useful for save-scumming like Pat thinks.

I'm glad there are people defending this great game. It's more slow paced but that's because it's more tactical. You can't spam your way to victory, you gotta actually think about the moves your about to execute. Though I do admit, it is because the graphics, while animatedly awesomely, do take longer to execute.

so the unfortunate thing about this era of SNK was that they didn't realize the importance of proper balances. I could make the case that they actually tried to make the games lopsided by making protagonists strong because it makes sense in game lore. This ruined the games in the long run, but I believe that it is easily fixed.
