Loving the new format, glad it's not just me who can't bend over a bike for more than half an hour before his back gives in, oh the joys of getting old 🤣🤣🤣. I know you flashed up the "support us on patreon" credit at the end but you do normal say it and explain all the fun that could be had there. 👍👍👍

Definitely enjoy the format of start to finish real world repair. Interesting to hear you mention JIS screwdrivers. I started in motorcycle workshops in the 80's and have tinkered ever since. I couldn't believe that until recently I'd never discovered the absolute joy of using JIS screwdrivers on the proper screws, eg. Carb bowls, diaphragm caps, engine casings, etc. I brought a set of Sealey ones and my life is transformed 😂 Does seem to be really hard to find proper quality ones though and it's such a shame Snap-on don't sell the bits. Anyway, keep up the great content 👍

Great format! Most engrossing to see you plan for the job and subsequent execution. Well put together (film and bike). Your moments of jubilation and despondence echo those of all who know the territory 😁👏👌👍

This format is what I love Jim. Cable are a pain. Good that some manuals (OEM) show cable routing, we get a lot of bikes (Vintage Japanese) with the cables all over the bloody place. as others have said carbs off before cables off and on before carbs back on is sometimes the case. Don't start me off on airboxes. Keep doing what you are doing it is all interesting. all the best Rob B. (JMC restoration Stockton on tees )

I could see straight away one of the cable fixing nuts was missing. Thanks Bud, for showing us this, it might help one day with the Thunderaces' prettier and slender sister I've riden for 20 years.

If you haven't got any of the Vessel JIS MEGADORA Impacta Screwdrivers look them up. Good for old bikes even better for old outboards with corroded fasteners. Best part is ypu can also use them as a normal screwdriver.

My lower back was twinging as you were leaning across the bike ! Locating those cable nipples at the carb end can be very swear inducing...often take the carbs off !

Funny that you should mention the Thunderace sounding like a 'bag of spanners' (via the microphone) - I remember reading a review of the Thunderace in Bike magazine back in the day - they used exactly the same phrase; 'a bag of spanners' to describe the sound of the engine at tickover, but then added 'they all sound like this' and that it was normal - I remember the article so well because I actually owned a Thunderace for a few years and it was a superb motorcycle. Great video as usual - thanks! 👍

Great video, I have felt your pain! Very under rated old bikes those Thunderaces. I travelled to the South of France on mine, did my first trackday on one, and it was the first bike that I got my knee down on. Saw 131bhp at the rear wheel on the dyno with a Micron can and K&N filter and Stage 1 dynojet kit.

Vessel JIS always gets my recommendation to people. A timely video. I need to replace my throttle cables. Took my bike for MOT and general check, picked it up and was told my throttle was a bit stiff and they lubed it. Cleaning my bike the next day and I find my throttle had a fair amount of slack, adjuster part was snapped at the handlebar end.

Done similar on an old boxeye 600 fazer,i found it easier to remove carbs with cables still attached sliding them out,it was for new pilot jets but refitting was a pain, but put the carbs halfway in at an angle to refit both cables, was a faff but easier than trying thatvwith carbs on,the jis screwdrivers are handy for the carb screws only place with stock was amazon £12 for set of 4.

Easier to take carbs off, that lower cable needs monkey hands and working against the spring tension is literally a pain in the fingers and back. A small wooden wedge inserted under the sprung arm frees up one hand.

Instead of fighting to pull thru old throttle or clutch cable(s) the threaded adjuster,. nuts , nipples hanging up .. just snip the ends off w. tin snips. I just replaced my Daytona 955i clutch cable.. which has that annoying metal sleeve cover right off the perch cable play adjuster , same as the Thunderrace.. which unnaturally forces the cable downwards so it can convolutedly around the nose fairing bracket. I cut that metal sleeve off.. yanked the cable thru... Installed a better fitting Speed Triple clutch cable.. which routes so much better.. nice gradually bow down to the clutch actuator..markedly beter clutch action.. Make sense. It's and old cable, who cares cut it to pieces Less aggravation..
