Great video Jim! The quality of your work is beyond reproach. I’m going now for breakfast and ordering some waffles.

Was gonna go for a ride but I think you may have inspired me to do the calliper rebuilds I have been putting off. Great video, love your attention to detail and very envious of your workshop set up. I’m sure it’s been said before but please don’t chastise yourself for ‘waffling’ it’s all useful information to us amateurs.

Hadn't thought of that method for removing pistons. I've been using an air compressor and rubber stoppers. A quick blast pops 'em right out.

You should look into vacuum ovens, that is the best way to really dry something, they are not that expensive. Source: I worked in an satellite factory that use them to dry and degas electronics that are ultrasound cleaned in isopropyl alcohol and also degass drying painted parts.

Good stuff mister, just one query you could mention, are there such things as tapered seals that require fitting the correct way round, I’ve heard about them but never seen them & nobody seems to give much information about them. Keep up the good stuff. Regards

Hello Jim, very much enjoy your channel. This caliper rebuild again demonstrates your thoroughness. I have several questions specific to this video regarding lubricants. What red colored grease (Wurth) was used to help seat the seals in the caliper bore? I would assume this grease would be compatible with various brake fluids. What non-petroleum based lube did you use on the rubber seal for the guide pin? I have used Wurth "Silicone Lubricating Compound", bid red & white squeeze tube, with good results. Thanks again for sharing the detailed nature in how you work

Excellent work again Jim thanks,a couple of questions - with the corrosion you pointed out around one of the Piston Bores would it not be prudent to Cerakote as much area as you can without getting any into the Bores,there is a lot of Bare Ally left after your processes,and also you correctly stuck to OEM replacement parts but would you consider Stainless Steel Pistons in this case ,do they prevent any sticking as you might expect ?.
@SuperbikeSurgeryTV
@SuperbikeSurgeryTV 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you could Cerakote all of it up to the bores. Customer wanted it as original as possible though. You could also use stainless pistons but to my knowledge there not available. If you could get them you'd likely be adding unnecessary expense. The standard pistons are very good if looked after/kept clean. Thanks for the comment. 👍

How did these hold up at that ratio? I wanted to coat 12:1 on burnt bronze calipers but I was concerned at how they would hold up at motocross track.

Thanks for the video. Nice job done. Your media blaster looks to work quite well, which one do you use? Also, is your vapour blasting cabinet one that you converted?
@SuperbikeSurgeryTV

Can't remember the make of the blasting cabinet, it's not massive, but perfect for the small Cerakote jobs I do. Yes it's the same Vapour blasting cabinet.

Had a bit of a weep one of my callipers of my 07 ZX6R, from where the brake-line sits on the calliper body - replaced with brand new copper crush washers and was still weeping. So I did I did a bit of research and order dowty washers, which solved the problem, but were slightly oversized for the recess the bottom washer sits upon and couldn’t remove it when rebuilding them recently. So my my question is, how can I prize out that washer?

Could you cerakote the piston / bores or would the brake fluid peel it off

yes you can with H series or E elite series, its not affected by brake fluid and is as thick as anodise which is done by Brembo ect. So its been done by most calliper restorers now.

I was quite impressed until the grease bit. Also suprised that you felt strongly about fingers on the cerakote yet happy to contaminate the brake fluid 🤷‍♂️
