I have thought about getting a vapor blaster glad you explained it in depth. I currently dry blast my stuff with glass bead. My stuff turns out nice but comes out with a satin finish. Thanks, Charels for the brake down on what to do. I really like the explanation of the difference between 2 and 3 faze electrical for those not in the know. Keep up the good work.

Glad you found some value in that Todd! Dry blast is really great too and also the investment isn’t at steep. That’s where I started and still keep one around! you can always experiment with the same tactics like lowering your pressure and see where that gets you. You should still be able to squeeze some extra, shine out like that, even if in the dry blaster

Great explanation. FYI that Matt has DIY plans that he sells and I highly recommend. I am 60% through my build and need to finally finish it! (Realizing that my compressor is on the small end put the build on pause for a bit.) Anyway, if you don't need the turn key cabinet, take a look at Matt's (HTMR) videos and plans. I will add in here that if you plan on doing a lot of blasting, CFM is king. I quickly learned that my 60 gallon 12cfm compressor is inadequate for dry blasting and vapor blasting as well. It supports occasional blasting of small parts just fine, but rims, larger parts, etc takes too much time. You need to need to give your compressor breaks, etc. I would highly recommend +20cfm.....and 30cfm is probably a good sweet spot. My target is 30cfm. I would recommend spending the money on a compressor.....and save money on the cabinet and build one of Matt's cabinets.

Thanks Rob. I’ve realized that that is the way modern society works, and it really does feel good to help people. The older I get in the more I learn, the more that makes sense versus the old-school way of people keeping things a secret. Gets you nowhere and betters no one. It also helps out the guys that help me out I would assume! Like Matt and Josh! Some would argue that it creates competition, but I am my own competition 🏁🤘 there are always a few extra tricks up the sleeve!

Seen a lot about the htmr vapor blasting gun lately and did some research, definitely going to get one but I see there is a couple different gun sizes, airjets and nozzles. Which ones are you using? Congratulations! Matt can be of better assistance on his gun ultimately, but they are sold in sizes to match your compressor horsepower. May even want to get some laps in with your stock gun first, so you can really tell the difference when you pick one up from Matt. 💪

Same to you, JAMES! Usually I will keep them separate. Partially, because I feel like it gives me a break between pieces and standing there in front of the cabinet. Every time you pull a nice part out of the cabinet you get rejuvenated and excited to do the next one. also, if I have multiple pieces in there, and especially the other engine case, it will just fill up with beads like a pool would with water. It’s not a big deal, I could just rinse it out. but I do one piece at a time Unless they are really small. I also like to make sure to get every completed part out and air dried quickly.

This is so awesome, I am building a powder coating shop in a 20’ trailer . I was wondering has anyone out there had an idea for some type of shop in a trailer . Sure enough man I got to tell you this was very motivational for me !!!! Thank you . . I work for Liuna local 1822 laborer for commercial construction that being said tho I do mostly carpentry and masonry work I’m fortunate enough I don’t get the grunt work any more but point is I used to work along side man commercial electricians. Having more than one compressor is common in commercial use, especially where three phase power isn't available or is obtained via an RPC where the running load isn't an issue but the starting load of a single larger motor would be. Some shops set their pressure switches so one compressor is the primary and the other comes on under higher demand.

You’re very welcome, the water was probably 50° it will warm up naturally overtime just due to the motor in the sump circulating all of the media. But it never gets hot or even warm really… results always seem to be a little better when the water is cool. But it’s marginal and undetectable by 99.9% of people.

Hello sir! I was just wondering how long media usually lasts? I know you mentioned that cleaning the parts before you blast will help prolong the life of your media, but how long does a 50 pound bucket usually last? Is it reusable?

Hey! The media will last really long time. I can usually get through a couple complete bike builds. And when I swap the Media out, it is always still good enough to keep using. But I always start our new giveaway bike builds off with fresh media so I can make sure everything is as bright as possible. Regarding your question about it being reusable, yes. It is being reused over and over and over again every time you pull the trigger on the blast cabinet. It’s being circulated buy a pump down below.

After blasting, must you wear gloves to avoid finger prints? If finger prints do occur, how easy is it to wipe them off? Will the exterior, now clean and porous by nature, soak up any oil that gets on the outside? i.e. if you're pre-lubing internals and the oil gets on the outside.

I do wear gloves, usually because I’m trying to keep the part in show condition for a customer to receive back. Or if I am doing a bike Build. But naturally, things get bumped, etc. Brake cleaner works wonders for these situation’s. I even know another great blaster who sprays penetrating oil on his parts, immediately afterwards, to make them resistive to other contaminants, such as the ones you’ve mentioned. I don’t personally do that, but found it interesting.

Correct, that’s exactly why this video was mentioned as an addendum to the last. I feel I’m getting a slightly brighter shine with vapor only as I’m not altering the surface beforehand. however, the difference isn’t life changing, and I will still used the dry blast when there are things that are too hard to clean or too dirty to put straight into the vapor blaster. Additionally, those are all based off personal opinions and preferences, so there really aren’t any wrong answers.

I believe he may put the head on and you can block/ plug/tape the holes. I think he may actually show how he does it. May have to look through the annihilator thread of when he vapor blasted the cylinder. Could be wrong on that.

You are 100% right and I didn’t even think to go over it in this video. I think I had already prepped it to make the filming more straightforward and easier on myself.

Jos, I lay strips of blue masking tape inside of the cylinder. Then I use a fresh razor blade to trim them along of the top and bottom edges of the cylinder where they stick out. I don’t really blast the exhaust port directly. This one looked especially clean before I started blasting because it just came back from a cylinder repair we offer. However, glass bead would not hurt it. I mainly do not blast inside those areas so that I do not knock the tape off of the cylinder wall from the backside, allowing bead to get into the bore. If I do need to blast the inside of engine cases, or an exhaust port for example, I give them a very light dusting. Because they are not really ever exposed to the elements, they require very very little blast to clean up. I also keep the gun pretty far away from those areas. Again, won’t hurt it. But they just don’t need a ton of attention like the outside of an oxidized cylinder for example.

How can I contact you to talk to you better about my sr250s 2022 I know you said it's a replica of the 450 x but the sr250s from 2016 and before have definitely changed in body style when it comes to the shape of the tank so I don't know if I can put plastics from the crfx 2022 version onto my bike or if it's a copy of a different model bike because it's definitely not the same as the old crfx like I said the old sr250s compared to the new ones completely different body styles

Has anyone used antifreeze mix instead of water? I don't have heat so mine would freeze solid with just water.

That’s actually an interesting idea… it might be better to find yourself a heat source. Maybe something you can apply to the bottom of your sump on the outside of the blast cabinet for example, a small space heater. The main issue with this might be - the antifreeze potentially etching or ruining your part. You would almost have to run a test. If I recall, the antifreeze that they used to winterize motorhomes, and RVs is nontoxic? Handling that stuff and getting it on your skin is obviously another consideration. It would also be turning into a vapor at times inside the cabinet, which would be venting out of the cabinets chimney into the air you breathe. Some stuff to think about but it’s actually a really good idea. I’m still going to vote space heater, or some type of heating element that can be applied to the bottom of your sump. Maybe VS some sort of adhesive. Once you get blasting, the sump motor inside of the cabinet is also generating heat.

The cool thing is, the shine or lack there of comes down to personal preference. If a guy wanted something that looked more OEM, you could definitely just alter your pressures to get a different look

Amateurs. You cut and blend the material with abrasives to get it FLAT before you ever put it into the cabinet. Rough castings and flash just makes the part look sloppy. As someone who hand polished many cases and parts to a mirror I can tell you that vapor is a great way to get a cheap and affordable satin factory finish IF DONE RIGHT! Many won't spend the $$$$ to have their cases show polished to look like a post 5axis polished part. 100 hours minimum. But for 1/3 the cost you can have them look 10X better than what is shown here.
