Ashton said that The Sweetness is about getting help with your mental health "When the sweetness seeps into your bloodstream, when the sweetness makes you love your life again" and then how your mental health can decline " When the darkness creeps into your basement, when the darkness takes it all away again". So basically, it's all about the ebb and flow of mental health. To me, the "demon voice" has always seemed to represent the darkness he mentions in the chorus...mental illness and its vengeful return after you've gotten help to face it. And with the "demon voice" repeating the lines from the chorus, it's almost like the mental illness demon mocking you for thinking you could get rid of it. SUPER DARK I know lol. But that's always what it's seemed to mean to me.
