hydrogen is really hard to store its extremely explosive and escapes confinement via tunneling (in simple terms it can convince the universe to let it teleport through walls every now and then.) So while it's performance in the actual car is great, it's a logistical nightmare to deliver. The sound is actually just a series of internal turbine pumps that pump the hrdrogen round and the water created by it.
@robertchiarizia94632 жыл бұрын
@@leewolf6434 sounds more like the vacuum stages of compression to me at the compressor. The pumps should be centrifugal or turbo nautilus design if high pressure. Those usually make a fast clicking sound. This sounds like a jet engine because it has a compressor section to suck bang and blow attached to a reduction gear box to transmit kinetic energy to a driveshaft.
@leewolf64342 жыл бұрын
@@robertchiarizia9463 they don’t need compressors. The hydrogen is usually stored at 300bar. You can see the tanks at 5:57 there’s two large black ones. There’s actually regulators down the line to reduce the pressure but you still need the pumps to give a regular constant measured quantity to the unit. The hydrogen turbine is actually very similar to a super charger in design (two cylindrical blades that entwine) but there is others pumps and stuff on board aswell.
@robertchiarizia94632 жыл бұрын
@@leewolf6434 do you understand the difference between a compressor and a compressor section of a jet engine? I’m a jet engine mechanic (A&P since 1999) a compressor and a compressor section are two entirely different things. You have to compress the air into the combustion chamber in order to create the kinetic energy potential when the fuel is added and ignited. Like how a diesel uses cylinder compression only to ignite the fuel. A jet engine uses two igniters at 50,000 volts to ignite the jet fuel in the combustion chamber when the Ng (compression) is at whatever that engine needs. There can be only several compressor blades, or their can be multiple stages of compression. A true turbine section uses a shaft that sends kinetic energy of the exhaust gasses back up a turbine driveshaft to impel the compressor stage to compress even higher Ng levels. The turbine and compressor section’s synergistically power one another. The problem with cars is that car engineers don’t have enough sense to have a twin turbo and wastegate system working in tandem with the supercharger. A supercharger is an inefficient way to compress air density compared to a compressor section on a jet engine. ICE are only 40% efficient. Jet engines are even up to 80% efficient. If they are not designing them the way I said, they need to learn how a jet engine works and power it with hydrogen using the jet engine as a model, not an ICE. It will just be more of the same shit different day if they just change the fuel to hydrogen. What they need to do is redesign how locomotion is achieved in ground vehicles.
@leewolf64342 жыл бұрын
@@robertchiarizia9463 but it’s not a jet engine. It’s an electric car powered by a hydrogen generator. There is no combustion in this vehicle and the pump is for hydrogen no air. The air only gets involved after the electric has been harnessed to help bind the electron back to the hydrogen atom. The other pumps are for the deionised water that gets created in the process that also doubles up and a coolant system.

This was pretty impressive. I find it interesting as well because I've seen other people, without such great resources, make hydro cars. Maybe they couldn't get the backing. I don't know. Still, I found this one of the most interesting considering it's something that is actual and ready to go for the most part. Makes me wonder how the major car manufacturers will prevent this from trickling down to the average car. Because I don't think this should just be for some rich people that basically won't use it but keep it in a garage.

@@Joshua-wp2ci not true, you can run a diesel on biofuel. Even used cooking oils. If you find the right mechanic in your area they can put a preheater inline and a pre filter plus a debris screen. The biofuel system works best in a vehicle that has two fuel tanks, such as a pickup truck. Simply make your second tank your biofuel tank/waste oil tank. The only extra expense will be changing your two fuel filters more often. Not free, but inexpensive.

Never going to happen for regular daily drivers. Too much energy required. Doesn't make sense. Hydrogen is very volatile. Maybe public transit for buses. They could use Hydrogen for energy storage though, might compliments wind turbines and solar farms nicely.
@Plackomiot2 жыл бұрын
@@anev7163 They are already introducing storage in form of hydrogen but the problem is that it is still expensive and you can't store it for a long time, it will naturally leak out on its own. There is no efficient way to make or store hydrogen yet but i guess its better to use it now together with wind and solar than the joke that batteries are.
@anev71632 жыл бұрын
@@Plackomiot I figured there was a good reason for storage not being widely used. Temp and Press being issues. Never really went down that rabit hole. I don't think I'm of the same mind that batteries are a joke. Current lithium batteries seem to have kinda maxed out when it come to energy density. Theres some interesting alternative energy storage, but unfortunately the huge amount of BS scams for it detracts a little from realistic options.

That truly is the future electric and everything’s cool but this right here is the technology that has been suppressed for over 30 years
@Pulsonar Жыл бұрын
It actually seems a lot more mature than I expected, like the technology existed decades before and was secretly developed for the opportune moment to roll it out as something ‘new’ after the electric car success. That hybrid electric car transition probably cleared the way without a deadly war breaking out amongst the oil, gas, energy, and automotive industry companies if this revolutionary hydrogen tech had been announced first as the saviour.
@TRAPONOMICS Жыл бұрын
The tech was created decades ago, by some guy that self developed it and proved the concept. He mysteriously disappeared shortly after proving his concept.

@zegamerz1980 Жыл бұрын
Fuel cell tech exists for decades already. It has been marginally used in public transports (mostly for busses) and the first fuel cell cars have been already created years ago (the Hyundai Nexo is available in Asia and some european countries since 2019). What has been limiting the tech from becoming widespread is mostly the availability or refueling points and the hydrogen production method: most of the hydrogen produced nowadays comes from methane processing which produces CO2, just like gas. The car is only as clean as the way you produce the hydrogen, much like an EV is only as clean as the way you produce the electricity you use to charge it. There are some possible solutions, but they would most likely not be viable if the technology becomes widespread (Toyota had introduced the possibility of small self-sustaining refueling stations, producing H2 from water by electrolysis using solar panels and wind turbines placed around them, but you can easily see the limits of such station when there are many cars needing regular refueling)

The air intake looks kinda like part of a coral reef, and then theres the hydrogen molecule. Also the arirblades and solar panels look almost exactly like shark gills. there's not only a lot of great engineering going on here, but also some extremely well thought out visual design.
