Can we also note the parallels between Narcissa and Lily for a moment when it comes to their boys? BOTH knew their son was in mortal danger, and if they didn't do something, then that person most precious to them would have been taken from them. One stepped in front of Voldy KNOWING SHE WOULD DIE IF SHE DID, the other, STRAIGHT UP LIES TO HIS FACE! Both ladies have a strength that at the end of the day is purely amazing! Also I agree with the person above, Draco just seems so tired od being put into these uncomfortable situations because of his father being a loyal sniffling dog to Voldemort, and I'd like to think that as they got older, Harry and Draco could at least be civil after all of this.

That was a great argument, but personally, my mind went straight to arctic fox, the light hair, clever hunting style, ability to hide any weaknesses and survive in harsh conditions, and finally, the ability to blend in with the surroundings, only showing itself when attacking (the death eaters). It would be great if you made a video on this theory, dig deeper into the connection.
@alinamagda2547 Жыл бұрын
Well... you said it yourself: arctic foxes don't show their weaknesses. Throughout most of the 6th book Draco did just that: showed his weaknesses whether he was crying hysterically in the bathroom or showing genuine fear when he attempted to kill Dumbledore... he was anything but strong. So the arctic fox patronus doesn't work.

Draco was skilled, he was intelligent, and had much talent. The reason he was always portrayed as the villain is because we read the books from Harry's viewpoint. Draco wasn't a villain. He was merely an ANTAGONIST to Harry: the Slytherin to his Griffindor, the cocky and boastful to Harry's humbleness. But Draco was NEVER a villain. If you want to look for the REAL villain in the Harry Potter saga, then look no further than VOLDEMORT. Draco despite his arrogance was just... a conflicted kid struggling to prove himself worthy of the Malfoy name while at the same time not being able to kill someone in cold blood like that. A victim of incorrect upbringing, if you will. He was never evil. That said, he was indeed intelligent, very powerful and talented.

My question-- was it a coincidence that James and Lily's patronuses were a Stag and a Doe respectively, or did one of their patronuses change because they fell in love to complement the other's?
@dittmar1044 жыл бұрын
Lily’s most likely changed. James was a stag because of his connection via his anemagus form prongs
@tylerpike9544 жыл бұрын
I'm going to call it coincidence because of Snape's Patronus imitating Lily's. If Lily's had changed because of falling in love with James, I think that Snape's Patronus would have taken the "original" form of Lily's from before he lost her to James. Unless perhaps Snape had chosen the doe as a painful reminder of how he lost her in the first place. Still going with coincidence though.
@FulcanMal4 жыл бұрын
I assume it's more that having similar or related protonuses, means that your true selves are more compatible with one another, thus making it more likely to fall in love with someone with a similar potronus.
@kaylariggs88654 жыл бұрын
Their patroni complimented each other because their inner selves complimented each other. Snapes patronus changes to match Lily's because of his love/obsession with her. It's stated in the books that you're patronus can change when you fall in love to MATCH the object of you're love. That's why Tonks' changes to a wolf to match Lupins. Side note Lupin does produce a corporeal wolf patronus but he conceals it and intentionally casts a non corporeal form in order to conceal his werewolf nature.
@Sarah-xt3kj4 жыл бұрын
I think Lily's patronus was naturally a doe. I think James' patronus was a stag because he had been in love with Lily. (I wouldn't say it changed, because I think he fell in love with Lily before he learned to produce a corporeal patronus.)

It’s funny I mulled over all the same options for Dracos patronus myself earlier today (weird timing I know). But one option I think you forgot to consider is your own patronus, a thestral. Not only would it show how skilled Draco is, since it’s also a rare patronus, but also I think it works in terms of his true personality. The quote on Pottermore suggests that the patronus reveals ones true self. Thestrals are extremely shy creatures that live in solitude, which once Draco starts revealing his true self, it seems a lot like him considering his only friend in The Half Blood Prince was Moaning Myrtle. They are also extremely loyal/protective, which Draco certainly is when it comes to saving him family from Voldemort. It also contrasts well with Harry. Hippogriffs (which Harry rides and has a consistent friendship with one) are known as the opposite of thestrals. Hippogriffs literally are a symbol of life and hope while thestrals are a symbol of death and fear (aka Harry v Draco). Phoenix’s are a symbol of life as well so it works in that way too. Another point is thestrals can only been seen by a select few people, people who have seen death, so it works perfectly with the fact that very few people see the true Draco. Finally when Harry sees a thestral in the Order of the Phoenix heres how he describes it: “A pair of blank, white, shining eyes were growing larger through the gloom and a moment later the dragonish face, neck, and then skeletal body of a great, black, winged horse emerged from the darkness.” A dragonish face? Pure white eyes? Emerging from darkness? Sounds a lot like a certain slytherin don’t ya think @SuperCarlinBrothers ? *Side note: Honestly I think his father Lucius fits the idea of a peacock more than Draco

@bartvanderpol60764 жыл бұрын
Hi, I really enjoy speculating on these topics. I think we all can agree that Draco's patronus would have to be something opposing Harry, but ultimately is not working against him. In Malfoy Manor, as said, he choses to protect the trio by saying he doesn't know who they are, even though it's clear that he does. He chooses to help. I like the idea of a thestral being an opposite of both a hippogiff and a phoenix, both connecting to Harry. MovieFlame has done a very interesting video on how thestrals and unicorns are also opposing creatures (link down below). Draco's wand core is unicorn hair, whereas the Elder Wand holds thestral hair and Harry's wand is obviously phoenix feather. -> kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5DQiWyHgq6Mo6c So creatures associated with Harry: hippogriff, phoenix (perhaps unicorn as a symbol for goodness) and creatures associated with Draco could then be: thestral, especially since in the video by MovieFlame it is emphasised that it is not by definition an evil creature, despite being associated with death. It is also very gentle once you get to know them. I think that ultimately counts for Draco as well, during the battle of Hogwarts he was only there to protect his family and when they had the chance, they left the side of the Death Eaters. Cowardly? Perhaps, but also a good choice. Thestrals are very misunderstood creatures, and only truly reveal themselves to some people. Most people in the wizarding community don't even know they exist. We did not know Draco's good side either, until he showed it in the moment when it was most crucial.
@bartvanderpol60764 жыл бұрын
I can also agree that the (white) peacock would be a patronus in the Malfoy family. The theory stands, but thinking about it now, it would indeed make a perfect match for Lucius as well. He's always showing off and tries to impress Voldemort and the other Death Eaters. He's pretending to be important all the time, being School Governor of Hogwarts and being friends with Cornelius Fudge. He was also a Prefect and member of the Slug Club (always showing off his Lucius feathers? Pun intended). He's always pretending to be more than he is, trying to impress everyone. The peacocks at Malfoy Manor are a perfect representation of his character.

I like a peacock for Draco for several reasons: They are inherently showy, often to their own detriment (a peacock's tail makes them move slowly, and they are significantly more visible than a peahen); they are loud and can use that to drive off/bully other animals (every time I go to the zoo); and he associates it with what he values most - Family.

"The Patronus will represent: the awakened secret self that lies dormant until needed, but which must now be brought to light" My understanding of that statement seems to vary strongly from the videos. In the video, Ben picks the peacock because it represents the flashy showy attitude covering up a fairly normal bird, which is Draco's personality, but I thought the quote meant that if you cover up your real personality, then your Patronus would represent the hidden personality, so in Draco's case, a normal teenage boy. Now I've no idea what kind of animal that might be, maybe a dog of some sort. Bonus Idea, do you all think you could have your Patronus be a Dementor?
@Ellie_164 жыл бұрын
I think mabey if Bellatrix had a patronus I would be a dementor concidereing how rotten they both are and what they did is very close on the bad spectrum at the very top so, yes I do belive someone could have the patronus of a dementor and I belive that could be Bellatrix
@MangertEternal4 жыл бұрын
Yah that’s exactly how I understood that as well! I think Ben described his hidden self as a normal kid, but from what myrtle said it seemed like his hidden self (for a lot of men) is just a vulnerable very emotional guy. So what’s an emotionally vulnerable creature who feels Deeply? A quick google search would suggest a dolphin or elephant. An elephant (the strongest creature in our non-magical world) would be a pretty dope patronus
@shrutimahant4 жыл бұрын
@@MangertEternal I thought the same. I think his true self is very pure and sensitive that he hides from the world. Unicorns are a symbol of purity and sensitive around people and only let the ones they trust get close (like Myrtle) and his wand core is unicorn hair. So his patronus could very well be a unicorn.

@ 6:00 I have paused to say that a witch or wizards patronus is (for the overwhelming majority) something that has meaning to them. Harry's was his father's and even a nod to his mother as the buck protects the doe and at that point in his life he would have given anything to have her in his life and would have protected her fiercely. Other classmates and teachers have favorite animals, familiars, and secondary forms (animagi) as their patroni, some even have the animal that represents their family name. This being said, (and I know that by 6 minutes in you've already admitted it's just a prank) being turned into a ferret and stuffed into his "friend's" pants was one of the absolutely most humiliating experiences of his proud little life... For this reason it absolutely COULDN'T be his patronus and if it were, he wouldn't be able to hold it as the spell requires positivity to not only cast but to maintain. A ferret would have made Draco rage... crushing the spell.

I've also thought about it like this. We know that a Patronus is easily cast when the caster is thinking of a truly happy memory. Most, if not all of Draco's happy memories happen while he is at home. He loves it there, including the peacock. I've had that theory for a while, and am so happy that Ben has brought it up.
@damiondraws85383 жыл бұрын
I still think he’s a ferret. He wiggles his way out of tricky situations, he’s a snarky little baby, and is basically a snake with fur (slithery and feisty) while still having a soft side. I feel like being a ferret fits his personality pretty well. Plus if someone were to turn him into a furry, I’m pretty confident that it’d be a ferret. But that’s just me
@mas88rus2 жыл бұрын
Such an embarassing experience would guarantee that it could never be his patronous. A patronous is created from your most powerfully happiest memory. That was the opposite of a happy memory for Draco.

I thought you'd go with hippogriff: proud, snappy, doesn't bond with just about anyone, looks scary. But if you respect it and allow yourself to bond with it, hippogriffs can be extremely loyal and caring. Peacocks look flashy and can be aggressive, so there's no hidden softer side to them, no "inner self" represented in them. (Alternatively: pitbull bc bad reputation but can be nice and caring dogs if nurtured properly, or milksnake because they evolved their looks to appear like deadly corals to avoid being killed by predators like how Draco tried to look and act like a Death Eater to avoid being killed by Voldemort.) If I had to pick someone to have a peafowl patronus it'd be Narcissa, she'd fit the aggressive nature of protective peahens when they have eggs or young, and how they're overlooked thanks to their flashy mates. Being overlooked by Voldemort bc Lucius drew attention allowed Narcissa to save Harry.

Once when I was writing a story featuring Draco, I took the patronus quiz on Pottermore, trying to answer the questions as Draco. I got Occamy. And I really like this. The blurb on Pottermore is: Only those with a pure soul can conjure the Occamy patronus. Those with the Occamy patronus are thoughtful. People with this patronus can often be found reflecting on previous events and on profound ideas. Those with this patronus often have a creative side too, excelling in creative subjects. Those with the Occamy are very protective of their friends. They are also adaptive and can fit into most situations with ease. Some of this might not be the most obvious for Draco. But, Dumbledore certainly thinks Draco has a pure soul, so we'll give him that one. I think he is thoughtful, reflective, and creative, and incredibly adaptive. The one we don't really see is him being protective of friends... because he doesn't really have them... more like associates. In this case, I think of an Occamy as being... partly a reflection of yourself, but mostly of something that protects you. I think that it's no coincidence that Harry's represents his father, a strong protective force. I think Draco's harkens to his mother. An occamy is noted for being particularly fierce when protecting its eggs, like Draco's mother is of Draco. (I did it a second time, and then got unicorn. Draco's wand core is unicorn, which is also interesting. It's description as a whole doesn't fit as well as occamy though.)

My theory is that Draco’s Patronus is a hognose. Not only is it a species of snake, but it also matches his personality. Dramatic, fiery, easily provoked, but all bark and no bite; they’re both more likely to go on about how you’ll regret messing with them than actually do anything about it.

You know I watched the movies with my kids, and I always wondered. "Did Drako Malfoy have a choice? " His farther was neck deep and had no spine but was hungry for power. His mother was kind and loving but could not leave with out endangering herself and her son. As a boy you do not see your parents doing wrong, you love them. As a teenagers we see them as a roll model, someone to imitate. But as you grow into a young adult, we start to notice the flaws that are parents may have. I believe by the time Drako became aware of the true evil in which his farther fallowed. He was already in way over his head, with burned bridges he left behind him. SO the questions is "Did Drako have a choice?" I think it was not the peacocks as Drako Patronus, but the fragile little bird, that is waiting to fly free. As shown in the mending of the cabinet.

According to Wikipedia: “When asked what shape Draco's Patronus Charm is, Rowling replied that, at least by the end of the sixth book, Draco was not capable of producing a Patronus, as it is not magic routinely taught at Hogwarts.” However I like an idea I found that his patronus would be a Scorpion. I also thought “maybe it works like Hermione and Ron’s, what eats pansies” and the first answer I found was ... deer. We’ve come full circle.

@saribeepo.o51114 жыл бұрын
I think the point in the video is, even though Draco is putting on a show, it's the show that he's actually presenting to the world (ie the arrogant, bullying ect ). His true self is someone who is 'normal' but puts on a show to the rest of the world. That said though, I don't think peacock is entirely right. Peacocks are actually very noisy aggressive birds, and that is more intune with the 'show' itself that Draco puts on. If the governing factor of his patronus is his putting on a show, I think it could circle back to a type of snake. there are species of snakes that are known to 'put on shows'. using the ends of their tail to make a 'rattle' sound and can even change their overall shape/facial structures to look like venomous snakes. That type of show would be more inline with draco, who actually isn't 'deadly' but has to have the appearance of someone who is to protect himself, whether it is the perception his father/society has of him or Voldemort's rather. Plus snakes tend to be misunderstood because of how people perceive them, which Draco very much is, where as peacocks people tend to appreciate for their beauty and are sometimes surprised to find out they are actually quite mean.

@Shillyvk Sshilly Draco was a bully, but I think that was more of a matter of what he was raised to believe, and during the years where he would be questioning his family's views or rebelling (teen years), he was essentially forced into serving Voldy, this further delaying the process of figuring out who he is as an individual. Being raised by such politically opinionated people forced his opinions because he (thought that he) had to have the approval of his parents.

To be perfectly honest, I am so confused at the whole "what would their patronus be" because we gotta remember, casting a corpeal patronus is supposed to be extremely difficult and advanced magic. Lupin says very few wizards can do it. Yet for some reason, JKR starts showing everybody having corpeal patronuses, even Umbridge has one. Like....ok? Harry pulling off a corpeal patronus doesn't seem like such a huge feat anymore after reading later books and finding practically everyone in the series has one. Heck, when we were first introduced to it, Lupin didn't even produce a corpeal one--he just had white light come out of his wand. And when Harry was brought before the Wizengamot, a lot of the judges were extremely impressed that he could produce a corpeal patronus (and at the same time found that the more impressive magic made the offense worse). So.....why does it seem like everyone has a corpeal patronus after that? Do we even have to wonder what someone's corporal patronus would be if they can't even produce one in the first place? Isn't the fact that they could produce white light enough?
@wrongmove22404 жыл бұрын

@@kaylariggs8865 that is ridiculous. Given the corporeal patronus is stronger and better at getting dementors to leave, and Lupin is very protective of the kids, especially Harry, then using a corporeal would have been better on the train. @@kayleemagoffin9573 Well this is what JK Rowling said herself concerning his patronus so i guess the author of the entire world is ridiculous 🤷♀️

@@kayleemagoffin9573 Direct quote from Rowling herself. "Remus’s Patronus is never revealed in the Potter books, even though it is he who teaches Harry the difficult and unusual art of producing one. It is, in fact, a wolf - an ordinary wolf, not a werewolf. Wolves are family-orientated and non-aggressive, but Remus dislikes the form of his Patronus, which is a constant reminder of his affliction. Everything wolfish disgusts him, and he often produces a non-corporeal Patronus deliberately, especially when others are watching."

I like the idea that he's physically incapable of producing a corporal patronus until after the events of the books. From what we know of him he never seems to be truly happy, he's obviously not got a truly happy home life being raised by a death eater, and even if it was an average one that's not a good enough memory. Then you see his time at Hogwarts, from what we see he's never truly happy, maybe content or smug but not happy. By the time he's a death eater himself he's constantly miserable and angry. The only time I think we see him genuinely happy is in the epilogue, so perhaps the memory of his wedding or the birth of his son would be the first time he has a memory that is strong enough to make a corporal patronus. Also I think the idea that Snape is the only Death Eater that can produce a patronus is nice symbolism.

I always thought his patronus would be a Dragon but now that you’ve said a Peacock it makes so much sense! I never ever thought of that

I'm part of the streaming crowd! Also, you know you're a Slytherin when... 1. You fake out for the entire first part of the video. 2. When you wear the Slytherin pride. 3. When you brag about your Thestrals patens and make fun of your Slytherin brother's Fox Terrier. 4. When you shamelessly plug the merch. And I love it. My patrons is a Manx Cat!

Ron Weasly was an instant house placement like Draco. The Sorting Hat didn't take a minute or even a second. The hat wasn't fully rested on Ron's head before exclaiming "Ha!" This was the exact moment he was sorted into Gryffindor. The Sorting Hat is sentient with a personality and a slight sense of humor. It could have easily shouted "Gryffindor!", but apparently wanted to mess with Ron.
