I'd like to think that Gustav's rat is Remi's Mum, and the reason his Dad is against Remi cooking is because it eventually led to his Mother's death (I suspect someone from the kitchen would've seen her and killed her, because rat in kitchen)

I was just about to comment this. We never see Remy’s mother, nor is she ever mentioned. I definitely agree with you on thinking that she was Gusteau’s pet rat who picked up on his cooking skills, sort of like Master Splinter in the original ninja turtle series. Rats are very intelligent creatures and can pick up skills and tricks very easily. Or perhaps the colony used to live in Paris and she learned to cook the same way Remy did, by observing. Perhaps a history repeats itself scenario.

@malcolm32 Жыл бұрын
Ok but rats *aren't* inherently good at cooking. The first 15 minutes of the film is devoted specifically to the fact that Remi is an anomaly in this regard, both in terms of his interest in food AND his ability to finely distinguish ingredients based on smell. That's why he becomes the poison checker. No one else in the colony has a keen enough sense of smell for the job. This is further emphasized later when Emil tells him the rats have been suffering without him. Edit: I realize there's a possibility that Remi isn't the ONLY rat in existence that shares his abilities. That's not the point. The point is that Remi, within the established rules/logic of the film, is RARE, and it's odd to me that SCB didn't even touch on that in their theory, making it seem like any old rat would've been able to do for Gusteau what Remi did for Linguini.

Yes, it costs victims: unknown food is tested by single rat, and if it dies, others rats will know not to trust that smell. That is poison really is not effective measure to get rid of rats. If anything, it is more insult that the only one rat can distinct those smells than expected most of rats can do that.

I've always had the theory that Remy is actually Auguste Gusteau's reincarnation and they've been, unknowingly, pulling an Avatar talking to their past selves for advice. Like Gusteau is not fully aware of how this happened (like Remy doesn't start seeing Gusteau until after he learns he's dead, so it may be the case that he hadn't been at peace with that fact), but he's been subconciously leading Remy towards what was familiar (i.e. his restaurant), and since he passed before Renata could tell him that Alfredo was his son, he didn't know that information, hence his surprised expression at learning he had a son all along. When it comes to fixing the sweet bread, it was Gusteau, subconciously, fixing his own screw-up.

I’ve had this theory for a while now that Skinner killed Gustau to gain ownership of his restaurant that’s why Skinner felt threatened when it was revealed that Linguine was Gustau’s son and it would’ve been really easy for Skinner to kill Gustau since we see in Skinners office a picture of the two of them so it’s heavily implied that they not only knew each other but used to work with each other and as for the whole thing about Gustau dying because of Egos review? Originally Gusto was supposed to be alive in the film while the business was going down the tubes and In a deleted scene Skinner was talking to him explaining that the sale of frozen burritos is what's keeping the restaurant going. It's something Linguine will eventually have to deal with as. well.

Or what if the reason the restaurant started failing was Gusto’s rat died - he tried to keep it going but he lost stars and the place entered a declining road - which is when the bad dish was created. I agree with this. When I was younger I noticed the lawyer’s line about the rodent hair and thought that he was talking about Guestau’s rat’s hair, until I watched it again and heard the lawyer say that he needed a hair sample from Linguini. But the saliva from the wine makes so much sense. I think this is also the real reason why Guestau died. Like Linguine, he got caught up in his fame, his rat resented him for it, they fought , parted ways, Guestau lost his cooking mojo, Ego came and gave the restaurant a bad review, and the rest is history.

I was actually thinking about Ratatouille at work, and my theory was this: what if the rat that was in Gusteau’s hat was Remy’s mother, who had unbelievable talent. Which (I’m bouncing off another person’s, Redbandit’s theory, and using a tiny bit of it as inspiration for it) got not just Gusteau killed by Chef Skinner, but also herself. Which was why the rat pesticide place had such a display window for them. Making me think that was Skinner’s original business before he became head chef for Gusteau, and also why Remy and Emile’s dad had such a distrust and disdain for humans. Lastly, how the rat hair was found in Gusteau’s hat, and launching his success.

I like the idea of Gusteau being reincarnated as Remy. If Gusteau did have a rat help him, then I’m gonna assume that something happened to the rat that spiraled Gusteau into depression and eventually his death when he lost a star while grieving the loss of his friend that helped him achieve his dream and not having the skills to continue alone. Remy being the oddball of the rest of his clan, kept going to cooking as his passion and eventually having a little ghost of Gusteau giving him advice. It’s like Gusteau’s past life is helping his current self (Remy) go back to his dream now that he has the ability to do it himself (in a way). That’s when the cycle started over with Gusteau’s son, Linguine, only this time Guesteu is the one pulling the strings/hair. He was helping his son but eventually decided that it was not what was best for either of them given how it ended the first time, instead he let Linguine stand on his own feet doing something he was actually good at (serving) while still being there for him and able to be in the kitchen doing everything he couldn’t when he was human.

It makes me wonder what happened in order for Ego to give a bad review if Gusteau had a rat and Linguini changed Ego's mind with a rat. Like, did the rat leave Gusteau? Or did the rat die somehow and Gusteau had to make the horrible meal by himself which led to the bad review?
@brokenlycan1997 Жыл бұрын
So, I looked something up. Apparently Remys dad was named Django, which means “I awake”. What if Django was Gusteau’s rat? He wasn’t a good cook, but then a rat helped to realize or awaken a strange ability that Gusteau’s family had, the ability to be controlled through the hair. He trusted humans because of Gusteau but then humans killed Remys mother which led Djanjo to feel very betrayed, and this feeling of betrayal led him to hate humans with a great passion. I didn’t expect that I might find anything in the meaning of Remy’s dads name that would make me think he was Gusteau’s rat, but here we are now.
@amyli092 Жыл бұрын
I really hope I'm not overthinking this, but I just can't help but question the probability of a rat being highly skilled in the culinary arts when being grouped in a colony of them, and whose senses can pick up on something that's not complete garbage. Emile's sense of smell is definitely more linked to his hunger than his need for finer cuisine, so I feel like there's less credibility for Django to have that same talent... If anything, even if the loss of Remy's mother checks out as a betrayal and distrust for all humans in his case, it just seems more likely for his mother to have inherited this ability. So what if this means that when it comes the origin of Django's name, "I awake" really refers to just how misguided he was when it came to his own lineage within his family as rats?
@Marauders4EVR Жыл бұрын
I'll see this theory and raise you: It was Remy's DAD (Django) who worked with Gusteau, something happened (Gusteau got too arrogant?) and Django was endangered, fled, resented Gusteau, hated humans, hated the fact that Remy was also just as good of a cook as he was, and THAT explains both his characterization AND, wait for it, the hair. The hair was a RODENT hair, that's why it came back inconclusive at first. It's presumed that Skinner used saliva from the cup, but this is never completely confirmed on-screen; what if he took a hair from Linguini's head that just so happened to be Remy's hair, hence why the tests came back father-son?

I think that the specific rat helping Gusteau is Reme’s dad. I also think that the slip of 5 stars was for a reason. I think that Reme’s dad and Gusteau had a big fight similar to the one that Reme and Linguini had. Only this time, it was never resolved. They went their separate ways since Gusteau betrayed Reme’s dad. This is why Reme’s dad hates humans so much and insists they cannot be trusted. One overlooked fact is probably chef skinners reaction to the rattatouile. It's weird, if the food was incredible he would probably not say "it can't be". What I think: Ego and gusto might have been brothers or something like that, ego wanted to be a chef but was never a good chef, just like gueso. However when gueso met his rat he turned in to a great chef, making Ego jealous, witch explains why ego seems to hate gueso so much. My belief is that chef skinner once ate guesos rattatouile, probability something casual, like a little dinner between two friends. Something great but forgettable in the life of a fine dining restaurant staff. However, getting the rattatouile makes him a little bit surprised, thinking it's a joke. BUT, tasting it, makes him remeber: It's just like Guesto made it, witch makes him run to the kitchen, demanding to know who cooked it (who cooked the rattatouile just like Guesto made it). Because Remy changed it a little bit chef skinner didn't recognize it as guestoes either until tasting.

There are a whole lotta holes in this theory, just in the first 5 minutes. 1. The lawyer refers to the DNA sample "you gave me" (speaking to Skinner). Skinner didn't give him Gusteau's hair. He just took it. 2. We saw the hair he took. It was many, MANY times longer than a rat hair. 3. He only took one single hair. If that had been the sample he had to send back (assuming he only sent part of it in the first time so he would even have any more to send) it would still have given the same result the second time because it was the SAME HAIR. 4. You said Skinner had access to Linguini's saliva, so that "had" to be the DNA sample he gave the lawyer, but we see him rip off Linguini's toque moments before they had wine together. He had access to his hair too.

One thing that I find fascinating is when Skinner tastes the dish at the end (the titular ratatouille). He tastes it, and in a moment of shock starts to mumble. I'm 93% sure he says "it cannot be", like he knows this specific recipe from somewhere. The ratatouille causes Ego to have flashbacks to his mother's cooking, and said flashback occurs in the same house from the beginning of the movie. Said house is owned by an elderly woman who loved Gusteau, based on her having his famous cookbook and watching a documentary on him. So I think we can say the dish Remy made might've been an old Gusteau recipe, one that Skinner would've learned about but has since been forgotten by most of Paris. Or maybe I'm just crazy.

The rest of the massive amount of rats in his family are entirely uninterested in flavor (none of the rest of them are even capable of smelling poison). There's no reason to think Gusteau could have possibly found another rat that was not only equally interested in cooking as Remy, but equally an absolute prodigy in that skill.

The main issue I see with this theory is the quite noticeable male-pattern baldness that Gusteau is showing. There simply doesn't seem to be any hair available with which Gusteau could be controlled. Especially considering the size /diameter of his hat. Linguini's hat is covering a big portion of his head and gives Remy sufficient space. Gusteau's hat is so thin, that no rat could move under there.

Remy is probably a good cook because rats are like bloodhounds or bears… they have insanely sensitive and precise senses of smell, so he could theoretically build the perfect dish and replicate something perfectly by scent. He would know exactly what spices are in it, how much, how long to cook meats.. etc. all by smelling the specific chemicals and volatile odors that change as they cook. So if he smells a dish, he could probably replicate it and improve on it with no problem. I think that’s how Remy and the other rat did it. I think they just took a skill they naturally have and used it for something new. I like to believe any rat in that world is capable of the same thing if they try, and the human control isn’t about controlling him like a robot… it’s about trust and working together. I always saw it less of “Human Gundam!” and more as a series of signals for Linguini to move. He isn’t forcing him to move, it’s more like riding a horse, you pull the reigns and use your legs to guide the horse and you both work together to get where you want to go! I don’t think there’s any magic or anything going on. It’s just a friendly and passionate rat who found a guy who was open to working together to succeed. That’s my theory anyway!

So thankful for Ratatouille video as this one is a top three Pixar film for me (foodie guy). What I wonder now is what other skills or similarities are there between Gusteau and Linguini? Is Gusteau a great roller skater too? He does show off some flexibility in that one pose for the magazine cover.

i'm half joking here, but if we're gonna say that linguni's family has a genetic ability to be controlled by rats then does that mean that linguini and sora are related since sora could be controlled by remy too?

Since Supercarlinbrothers do a lot of Disney theories, I would love it if they ever did a Miraculous Ladybug theory. Of any kind!

What about a Bluey Theory of any kind. J's kids absolutely love watching and listeners of the Pop know that he would enjoy making it. Or even a Disney Cinematic Universe, but obviously different from Séamus Gorman.

Gusteau leaves a piece of hair in his hut collection Lawyer scans it, appears to be rodent hair ( rat ) Gusteau's book "Anyone can cook"
@jorgerincon6874 Жыл бұрын
This really cheapens the "anyone can cook" message of the movie, Remy was a special Rat, not any rat could create what he did, cause they don't care about flavor or the process of making food.

Imagine though the rat was Remi' s dad. Imagine if Gusteau kicked him out for some reason for example like what Linguini did after Remi stole food from the restaurant. And thats why he lost one star. And that's also the explanation to why Remi's dad hates people.

And here comes the Disney Trauma: I bet you that the reason the restaurant lost two stars and Gusteau got I’ll and died was because his rat died first. He couldn’t cook after that, both cause of the personal loss and the loss of his “abilities”.

Not only do I think this theory doesn't really hold water at all, but it's also detrimental to Gusteu's character and I think does a DISSERVICE to the story more than it add to it.

Why do you think it is "detrimental to Gusteu's character" and "does a DISSERVICE to the story" more than it add to it? Is it because it would mean Remy was wrong to idolise Gusteau?
@SgtSupaman Жыл бұрын
@@snaketooth0943 , it would mean that Gusteau would be as much of a sham as Linguini was, with the difference being that Gusteau never owned up to it. This theory makes Gusteau out to be a talentless liar for his entire career.
@snaketooth0943 Жыл бұрын
@@SgtSupaman yeah, good point. Now that I think about it, it would also mean that Linguini would be talentless from a talentless father, not talentless from a talented father, thus not driving home the message of the movie. So yeah, not one of this channel's best theories.
@BelbyB Жыл бұрын
Yeah and as to the not holding water, I wouldn't really consider the hair sample the lawyer took as "Given to him", and if Skinner didn't give Linguine's hair, why would he not wonder why a rat was in Gusteau's hat?

One of my favorite things is that rats in the real world are incapable of gagging, so the soup was so bad it broke the laws of biology.

So, sorry to break it to you, but, as a graphic designer and artist, I could tell that the red circle you drew to define the bottom of Gusteau's hat (3:12) is actually too small. The white of his hat extends outside of the circle, and, if you were to try completing it properly, it would in fact just barely dip behind his head. Much of what you're using as "rat" is in fact what would be best known as "shading" Really intriguing theory, regardless!
