The book actually gave the impression that the marauders figured out a way to become animagi that was different from the typical way because they didn't have access to the actual process. So, they didn't necessarily go through these steps, sort of like Snape's notes in his potions book were much simpler and better than what the actual book said.

The way that Remus described the process in the Prisoner of Azkaban, I thought you could choose your animal form. he said that James and Sirius became big animals to keep him under control and Peter became a small one to get to the Whomping Willow without injury. So when Rowling decided to go with the "you can't choose you animagus form" rule, I was actually really surprised. Mostly because of the way she wrote the conversation, and how coincidental it was that their forms were perfect for helping Remus.

Somebody tried eating a tree, and now we have cinnamon. Dedicated wizards probably experimented on many hopefully willing subjects, and eventually pieces of the solution started to show promise. The actual process is likely overkill on many steps, but it's a sure method, which makes it safer than improvising or substituting. Since the power of ingredients mainly comes from what they represent, the Marauders could've found some alternatives of equal or greater value.

I think that people get registered by an Animagus at the Ministry because the Ministry help them along with the process (providing the leaf, cocoon, dew, etc.) making it a lot easier. So unregistered ones have a lot harder of a process to go through.

Actually, this was something that bugged me for the longest time. "Your animagus form is the same as your Patronus?". It would make sense, considering that your animagus is like part of your soul and your Patronus is the animal that is you the most? I read the entire series looking for some proof about it (and it was hard man, because everyone that is an animagus never uses a patronus, and people that use the spell are not animagus. Even James, that you could think fits into the requirements of being an animagus AND showing his patronus is actually not, because, even though his animagus form is a stag, we never actually see his patronus, we see HARRY's patronus and he SAYS that is his dad). I read all of the books and was starting to loose hope. But then. The answear came in the second part of the last book! Through Minerva, of all people! We all know that her animagus form is a cat, but in the middle of The Battle of Hogwarts she also uses her patronus, AND IT IS A CAT. I was so relieved. From then on I just assumed your Patronus and animagus forms would just be the same. After this video, I don't know. I think I'll continue to believe it though.

Snapes Patronus was a doe symbolizing his love for Lily yet I seriously doubt his animagus would of been a doe as well and Nymphadora Tonks changed her Patronus to a wolf when she fell in love with Remus so your patronus can obviosly change and most likely not one in the same with your Animagus.

I think that your patronus can change depending on your new experiences etc, but your animagus will remain the same based on who you were (inc your experiences etc) when you performed the ritual. So they might end up being different. The real question is; Can you cast a patronus while being in your animal form? Like what if your animagus form was that of an elf?

Reading some things on Pottermore (Wizarding world) I came upon this: "Your Animagus and Patronus animal can be the same If a wizard never masters Animagus magic, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll never find out the animal they could’ve been. It is basically a representation of protection and the will to live, so it naturally takes the form of the wizard's soul (it's animal form, anyway) to probably represent the inner animalistic i-am-going-to-do-anything-to-survive kind of mentality, and If something or someone else starts to represent that will to live (as it happened to Severus and Tonks), then it morphs into somehting else. It will just take the form of what makes you happy and makes you want to move foward (it is kind of sad to think that 'yourself' is not a good enough reason to those two characters, If you look at it through this lense). It takes the form of your animal soul because, in the beguining, you just want to survive and save yourself and this is enough, and then life gets more complicated and it may come a point where there are people you want to save more than yourself. I feel very satisfied with this research :)))

I’ve always wanted one. Like a screening thing in theory, to allow you to transform safely. Like you know you need space if you’re an elephant, or to be in a warm area if you’re a snake, etc. So if you ever DID get to transform, you’d be ready. Deer aren't really leaders, they're prey animals and stags specifically represent not having a partner. Dogs are completely domesticated and eager to please people. I don't think this theory really works

To help with the moth bit, in an entomology class, we had to raise tobacco hornworms and we passed if it made it to the final stage of metamorphosis and became a moth. These moths also bury underground to form their cocoons, BUT to imitate this, we had a small Tupperware that we kept them in and just fed them food. Once it came time for them to form the cocoon, we filled the Tupperware with shredded paper. They mistook the shredded paper for dirt, buried under it, formed the cocoon and then became moths. You could do this as well. The process ALSO takes about 1-2 months so you’ll have to do this while you also have the leaf in your mouth and are doing all the other stuff lol

I got the herbs and fungi book and did you guys know that there’s a plant named moondew? which awakens, revival and restores and it also causes the potion to become liquid form that would turn the other ingredients to liquid. Also morning dew from the moon dew gives us twilight, so that means you just have to collect the dew that hasn’t been touched in seven days by human feet.

I highly doubt that you would be able to become a basalisk simply because it is not an actual snake, but a weird hybrid that can only be created using dark magic. It's only possible to create a basalisk if a frog is standing on top of a chicken egg when it hatches.

They did have an Animagus event in Harry Potter: A Hogwarts Mystery, and I did take part in that. The Mandrake leaf thing would probably be the hardest bit for me in real life. They kind of skimmed that part in the mobile game rather than making you actually wait a whole month. In the end they also included you choosing what you 'hope' to be (and in the end, you do turn into the animal you choose, though they only had cat, dog and bird as the options as far as I know). I'm not sure how accurate the lore is within the mobile game, but it's officially licensed, so it could be canon that 'wishing' for a certain animal may work.

Anyone heard of "Bisclavret" and "Melion"? They're stories about a nobleman who can turn into a wolf, but can only turn back into a human when he has his clothes or a magical artifact. I have a feeling in Harry Potter these stories are based on the tale of some wizard who's turning into an animagi went wrong.
