Supercharge Your Coffee | 10 Things to Boost Your Coffee Benefits- Thomas DeLauer…
1) MCT/Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil- Contains lauric acid which, upon digestion, forms a type of monoglyceride called monolaurin, which acts as a bacteria-killer. MCTs have a unique metabolism, being preferentially absorbed without the need for micelle formation, and they are transported by the portal vein to the liver for preferential oxidation.
2) Ghee
Ghee, a type of clarified butter, which is a fancy term for pure butterfat. Contain virtually no lactose and are very low in casein, which makes them an ideal alternative to regular butter for those with dairy and lactose sensitivities. Ghee also contains butyric acid, a short-chain fatty acid - butyric acid is an essential nutrient for the digestive system because it helps maintain healthy cells throughout the GI tract, and provides energy to the cells in your large intestine. Ghee has a higher smoke point than most fats, with a smoke point of 450 F - By comparison, regular butter and coconut oil only have a smoke point of 350 F, while extra virgin olive oil has a smoke point of 320 F
3) Cacao
Cacao helps stimulate serotonin production in the brain, which regulates your mood and helps suppress your appetite, which means you’ll consume less calories in the long run. Also contains both anandamide and phenylethylamine, both of which induce euphoria, act as an aphrodisiac and boost overall mood - phenylethylamine releases norepinephrine & increases dopamine. Phosphodiesterase enzymes and increases the activity of a messenger called cAMP, which activates protein-kinase A (PKA.) Flavanols (a class of flavonoids) present in cocoa increase the production of nitric oxide (NO) by blood vessels (endothelial cells), which leads to widening of blood vessels, improving their function.
4) Reishi or Cordyceps
Reishi- Reishi activates autophagy and decreases levels of TNF-alpha and IL-1, which are inflammatory cytokines.
Cordyceps- Increases the body’s production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is essential for delivering energy to the body & brain.
5) Turmeric
COX-1 is involved in the regulation of day-to-day cellular and metabolic activities such as maintaining stomach lining integrity, regulating blood flow within the kidneys and balancing platelet function. On the other hand, COX-2 regulates prostaglandin production within inflammatory cells. Prostaglandins are found in our tissues and organs and if, for example, a tissue is damaged or infected, prostaglandins spark reactions that cause pain and inflammation. Turmeric inhibits COX-2 without affecting COX-1. The curcumin stimulates your gallbladder to release bile - helps with stomach ulcers by inhibiting stomach acid secretion. Curcumin can actually increase DHA levels as it elevates levels of enzymes involved in the synthesis of DHA from ALA in both liver and brain tissues. Specifically, it elevates levels of enzymes involved in the synthesis of DHA called FADS2 and elongase 2.
6) Salt
Sodium depletion alters how the nervous system, including structures within the mesolimbic dopamine system, processes the taste of salt. Sodium deficiency reduces gustatory nerve responses to salt; neurons within the NST exhibit altered firing patterns to the taste of salt during deficiency. Neurons that respond to sweet tastes such as sucrose begin to fire in response to salty tastes in the depleted animal
7) Coconut Cream/Milk
The exact antimicrobial compounds that coconut oil contains in coconut cream too - contains lauric acid, which converts to monolaurin in the body, but has a higher caloric value.
8) Cinnamon
Cinnamon has the unique ability to imitate the activity of insulin in the body - an ingredient in cinnamon, a water-soluble polyphenol compound called methylhydroxychalcone polymer (MHCP), mimics insulin, activates its receptor, and works synergistically with insulin in cells.
9) Collagen
Collagen is the “glue” that holds the body together - it is what is responsible for giving skin elasticity, hair its strength, and connective tissue its ability to hold everything in place and helps replace dead skin cells. Collagen stimulates human cartilage-producing cells (chondrocytes), which has the potential to result in more cartilage tissue.
10) Beta Alanine and/or Citrulline Malate
Beta-alanine, also known as 3-aminopropanoic acid, is a non-essential amino acid - together with histidine, it produces carnosine, which is then stored in your skeletal muscles. Citrulline malate is the supplemental form of the non-essential amino acid citrulline. This supplemental form is the product of bonding a salt compound, malic acid, to the amino acid citrulline.

I'd like to try this but would probably first need glucagon to keep my sugar balance steady. When I tried to get into keto I could not even bike to school without my bloodsugar dropping way too low. Hopefully the artificial pancreas thats being develloped in The Netherlands will be on the market soon and be covered by insurance.

Currently, I use MTC oil, ghee or grass-fed butter, and collagen. But will definitely also investigate the other options you have listed in this video, especially beta alanine and citrulline malate. Looking forward to the next video.

I started adding coconut oil to my coffee a couple weeks ago. Wow, just a teaspoon of that or so each day really boosts my ketone level. I went from .4 to .9 mmol in just a couple hours - with no exercise. That really opened my eyes to how powerful the MCTs are, even in relatively small amounts. I'm interested in your recommendation here to also add ghee. I bought some ghee from Costco a while ago and have been using it in cooking, but not yet in my coffee. I was blending butter for a while (bulletproof style) but it made me run to the bathroom (maybe I put in too much?) and raised my glucose. I think the ghee could a good alternative. Thanks for the tip!

You're a natural educator, it fits my learning style and connects all relevant aspects to my prior knowledge. A+!!!! I am very appreciative!!!! When I started my healthy journey to be rid myself of obesity related illness, I recieved a non alcoholic fatty liver disease diagnosis through labs and ultrasound. I had just completed a Bachelors degree in Nutrition and Food Sciences. It's funny because my doctors referred me to a nutritionist and it was one of my professors!!!! I did more research and 6 years later I found your channel. Your channel's content fills in the gaps of my scope of learning and it sparks not only my interest in research; but also how I implement what I've learned. Inflammation attacks the whole body and so many studies show that it can be remedied. Could you recommend specific videos that I can hone in on?

The Thrive brand of shirataki noodles are a gamechanger!! They’re still zero carb and zero calories but better than any other shirataki out there. I will never go back to Miracle Noodles again. You literally can’t tell the difference b/w Thrive shirataki and regular pasta! The angel hair is the best. It’s so light and fluffy and delicious and it takes 2 minutes to heat up on the stove (less in microwave). Omg they are amazing - MUST TRY!

He should have been more clear in the video, but anything without calories or artificial sweeteners as a general rule of thumb. Fasting friendly from this video: Reishi, Cordyceps, Turmeric, Salt, Cinnamon, Beta Alanine, Citrulline Malate.

Hi Thomas, I have been adding organic cinnamon to my coffee for many years. And I sometimes also add cacao powered, I will now start adding cacao all the time. I am now also adding coconut oil since I recently became Keto. My question is about stevia? I need some sweetness to my coffee, so I add about two teaspoons of stevia. Is this OK for Keto?

I just read and article on Ghee and some people still have sensitivities to it, with the little bit of casin/lactose that can be left behind. If your going to try it, they said to get very high quality and go with companies that say they test for anything left behind.

Cordyceps is a great mushroom! Thomas, what do you think about the purported anti-androgenic effects regarding reishi? Is it overhyped? Maybe there is there a time in an excercise regimen to best utilize reishi?

I was interested in Thrive but got scared after reading this: www.truthinadvertising.org/what-you-should-know-about-thrive/ it's also got an F rating from the BBB. Also, 16 people were hospitalized after taking their products. I'm still researching.
